Demolition.
--In the spirit of improvement now going on in our city, many structures, once the pride of a neighborhood, have to give way to those of modern architecture. The latest case of demolishment which we have observed is the house formerly, and for so many years, occupied by Mr. Hitchcock, which stood on the bank of Haxall's canal, where it intersects 11th street. --This building has been pulled down, and the bank is to be taken away to fill up the ground below Haxall's mills, lately taken in from the river by Messrs. Haxall, Crenshaw & Co.--We understand that it is the intention of this enterprising firm to build, at some future time, a large and commodious lumber-house on the site of this bank.
