equivalent to θεός, but esp. of the gods
in their dealings with men, Il. 3.420
; σὺν δαίμονι, ‘with the help
of God,’ κακὸς δαίμων, δαίμονος
αἶσα κακή, etc.; hence freq. ‘fate,’
‘destiny,’ πάρος τοι δαίμονα
δώσω, thy ‘death,’ Il. 8.166.
