TIPARENUS

TIPARENUS an island off the coast of Hermionis in Argolis, mentioned only by Pliny (4.12. s. 19). It is frequently identified with Spétzia; but Leake remarks that Tiparenus has no appearance of a Greek name, and conjectures that it is an error for Tricarenus, the same as the Tricrana of Pausanias (2.34.8) and the modern Trikhiri. (Leake, Morea, vol. ii. p. 465; Ross, Wanderungen in Griechenland, vol. ii. p. 21).
