HYPSE´LA

HYPSE´LA (Ὑψήλη, Ptol. 4.5.64; Ὕψηλις, Steph. B. sub voce (Ὑψηλοπολιτῶν πόλις, Socrat. H. E. 1.32: Eth. Ὑψηλίτης), the capital of the Nomon Hypselites in Upper Egypt. (Lat. 27° N.) It stood on the western side of the Nile, nearly opposite Astaeopolis.
