23rd (search for this): article 1
Two hundred dollars reward.
--Ran away from my house, in Manchester, on the morning of the 23d, my servant woman Kitty.
Said negro is 18 or 19 years of age, rather short, light gingerbread color, and quite stout; her gums are particularly dark; she carried away with her four colored silk dresses, one black silk dress, and two plaid dresses, one black cloth cloak, and a purple silk bonnet, with sundry other articles.
She was brought from Mecklenburg just before Christmas, where I bought her, and I think it probable that she may be trying to get back.
I will give the above reward for her delivery to me, or to any jail in Richmond so that I may get her. Robt H. Talley. [fe 24--3t*]

Longstreet (search for this): article 1
From East Tennessee.
We have a rumor, whether well founded or not we are not prepared to say, that the Confederate forces have captured and now have possession of Cumberland Gap.
An officer from Gen. Longstreet's command says that Knoxville is virtually in our possession, and would be occupied by our forces but for the prevalence of small-pox in the city.
Longstreet's army is represented to be in fine health and spirits, well fed and clothed, with full confidence in themselves and last Tennessee.
