To the citizens of Charleston.
--M. H. Na than, Chief of the Charleston Fire Department, has caused the following to be published in the papers of that city:
By order of His Honor the Mayor, all persons owning and occupying buildings in the range of the enemy's shells, are ordered immediately to have removed all papers, combustible material, etc., contained therein.
This notice particularly pertains to the banks, insurance, printing and law offices, as also the Custom House.
Our citizens will see the necessity of this stringent order, and it is to be hoped that it will be cheerfully and promptly a tended to, as it is to the interest of those concerned as well as the public authorities.
