The army. The intelligence we have from the army indicates a continuance of that quiet which has prevailed since the return of Gen. Lee to Virginia. From all we can gather, the headquarters of Gen. Meade are at Warrenton, where he will perhaps remain till he deems himself sufficiently strengthened by reinforcements to attempt a move on Richmond. We had a report on Saturday that the enemy had evacuated Stafford county, and fallen back on their main body. The report stated that the evacuation was precipitate, and that they burned their tents, and a lot of commissary stores. On the other hand, passengers who came down yesterday evening state that there was brisk skirmishing in Stafford, a few miles beyond Falmouth, on Saturday afternoon and again yesterday morning.

Serious accident. --A severe accident occurred in this city on Saturday afternoon last, by which Dr. J. P. Little came near losing his life. The doctor had been attending some patients at the Young Men's Christian Association Hospital, on Clay street, between 5th and 6th, and had just entered his buggy when the horse attached thereto took fright and dashed off at full speed. Being unable to rein him up, the animal continued in his flight till reaching 6th street, between Clay and Leigh, when the vehicle came in contact with some obstruction, which threw Dr. L. out with great force against the curbstone opposite Mr. Wm. B. Isaacs's residence, and for a while he lay apparently lifeless. In a few minutes the doctor was lifted into the grass plat in front of Mr. Isaacs residence, where some ladies proceeded to bathe his head and administer other restoratives, by which means he was soon restored to consciousness. A physician who had been sent for having arrived, examined his wound

A physician who had been sent for having arrived, examined his wounds and found that his left leg was broken, one of his ears nearly torn from his head, and there was a severe contusion on the right side of his face, immediately above and below the eye, though, fortunately, no fracture of the skull. The doctor was then removed to his residence, where, we are glad to learn, he is getting along as comfortably as the nature of his wounds will permit.

From Charleston. Charleston, Aug. 14. --The bombardment for the last two nights has been incessant and spirited. Two monitors and one of the Yankee batteries on Morris's Island were firing at Port Sumter yesterday at 4,000 yards distance. There are signs that another terrible bombardment will speedily begin. The Ironsides, with six monitors and five gunboats are inside the bar, and twenty transports are in sight. A French war steamer is anchored off Fort Sumter. All quiet this morning.
