Murder.
--Thornton Moore, a freight conductor on the Alabama and Mississippi Rivers Railroad, was beaten to death at Demopolle, on Thursday night last, by some unknown person.
He was found dead in a stock car.

Police Arrests.
--George, slave of Thomas T. Catlett, was arrested yesterday by officer Moore for having in his possession two pieces of bacon stolen from Mr. James R. Chiles; and John Roots, a free negro, who keeps a shop on Marshall street, just above the German Catholic Church, was arrested by the same officer for receiving a piece of Mr. Chiles's bacon from George, knowing the same to have been stolen.
Officer Granger arrested yesterday evening Pat. Kalahu, Wm. Andress, and Wm. Purrol, on the charge of stealing a half ream of writing paper from Mr. James Woodhouse.
The same officer arrested and locked up in the cage John Harper, on the charge of being an idle and dissolute person, without visible means of support.
