States. The following resolutions of inquiry were referred to the appropriate committees: By Mr. Carpenter: Of imposing a tax on dogs in the county of Alleghany. By Mr. Stages: Of providing by law for compensating the Sergeant of the city of Richmond for services rendered by him in cases of the Commonwealth: By Mr. Kaufman: Of so amending the militia law that companies shall not consist of less than eighty five and not more than one hundred men, rank and file. By Mr. Barbour: Of incorporating the Cathain Furnace Company, in the county of Spotsylvania. By Mr. Harrison: Of so amending the 8th section of chapter 151 of the Code of Virginia as to provide for the indemnity of the officers taking possession of any property under the provisions of said section. A bill providing for the building of a military road from Wytheville to Logan Court-House was read a third time. Upon a motion to recommit the bill to the committee, a long discussion ensued.
