First Bite: Bar Pintxos
I've been curious about Bar Pintxos ever since it opened its first store down south. Frequented by discerning locals, I couldn't help think that this place must be really good. I was thrilled when it opened branches in BGC and Makati as it made it more accessible to me. And after a few failed attempts, I finally got to visit its BGC branch a few weeks ago.
Hello, Bar Pintxos Tapas Y Mas.

Northern Chronicles: Barcino
Barcino has been one of our favorite restaurants when dining with business partners. With its scrumptious food offerings and warm ambiance, our guests are sure to have a good lunch. And it being just a few blocks away from our office makes it the perfect option.
Hello, Barcino.
I always get excited whenever our lunch plans involve Barcino. Just thinking about feasting on paella and ginormous gambas make me smile from ear to ear. And one time, we had a bit more.

First Bite: Wobbly Pan
One of the things I love spending time with my family is that I get dibs on where we'll eat. And for last week's feast, we decided to try Wobbly Pan.
Hello, Wobbly Pan.
Wobbly Pan is one of the relatively new restaurants at Shangri-La Plaza. Located at the ground floor near the old Dome and Mercury Drug, it would be quite hard to miss this place.

Eco-Luxury at its Finest: Pangulasian Island Resort
El Nido is one of my favorite places in the Philippines. Just thinking about basking in the majestic beauty of the limestone rock formations surrounding its islands makes me want to book the next possible flight. And just when I thought I had a great time at El Nido, a resort showed me how to best enjoy this wonderful vacation spot.
Hello, Pangulasian Island Resort.
Hailed as one of the most luxurious resorts in El Nido (with rates at par or slightly higher compared to the more popular Lagen Island Resort), Pangulasian is managed by El Nido Resorts.

Holiday Hacks: Empacho's Party Trays
You know you're in the Philippines when the holiday season lasts for several weeks or at least until all the leftover and lechon are out of the fridge. And for those who still have potluck parties to attend to, there's this gem in Tomas Morato worth checking out.
Hello, Empacho.
Empacho has been a favorite of mine ever since I had a bite of its kare-kareng bagnet. A mouthful of the crispy pork with thick peanut sauce would bring you to heaven. But Empacho has much more in store for us. Party trays!

First Bite: ¡OYE! Tapas & Grill
Is it just me or there is a crazy number of restaurants opening here and there? I used to be able to keep up with the new store openings within my area but I couldn't keep up anymore with the rate it's going. But I prioritize those I've been itching to try and one of the new restaurants I spotted a few weeks back is this tapas place in Uptown Bonifacio.

First Bite: Charlie's Pritchon
One of the things I love about the Philippines is the long celebration of Christmas. As our Facebook and Instagram pages become filled with Jose Mari Chan's face and recycled memes, I only think of one thing... lechon. Though lechon is a staple in all kinds of celebration, it is more associated with the festive Christmas where the crispy roasted pig is shared by the whole family (and more). And Christmas sure came in early when I was invited to sample Charlie's Pritchon.

When in Davao: Tiny Kitchen Creations
I was so scared to visit Davao again after what happened and still happening in Marawi. Knowing that the war zone is just 5 hours away from this smoke-free city doesn't make me feel very comfortable. But after hearing great words about this Spanish restaurant along F. Torres in Davao, I got excited more that worried.
Hello, Tiny Kitchen Creations.
This beautiful restaurant is known to be one of the gems of the city. It is often packed for lunch and dinner and unfortunately, they do not take reservations. But they do accept pre-order as some of their dishes take an hour to prepare. We got to the restaurant around 6:30 pm and the place was full at 7 pm! It was a good thing Uncle R decided that we leave the hotel early for dinner.

Love at First Bite: Rico Rico
SM Aura’s food court is known to be a fancier version of your usual food hall. With more premium options to choose from, you’d have to shell out more cash for a meal. I wouldn’t mind spending a few extra hundreds if it means that I'd get a “good meal.” And that is exactly what I got from Food on Four’s new player.
Hello, Rico Rico.
This new paella place caught my interest when it opened a few months ago. Vibrant colors and DIY paella were what caught my attention. And I grew even more curious when I found out that this brand is the brainchild of the group handling Las Flores and Rambla, restaurants known to serve superb Spanish dishes. But my schedule didn’t permit me to try this place sooner.

New Year New Dishes: Osaka Ohsho Latest Offerings
I usually avoid SM Megamall because of the insane traffic that seems to surround the well-loved mall. However, I simply could not say no to The Relish Group’s invite especially if it means feasting on some Japanese treats. And so, I found myself braving the traffic one Wednesday night.

Filipino Classic: Lydia's Lechon
Lechon has always been one of the highlights of any festive celebration. We’ve seen it in big events such as fiestas, Christmas gatherings and well… Cebu. I must admit, I already had my fair share of crispy suckling pig but it’s just so hard to resist it when it’s right in front of you begging to be loved or indulged. Screw cholesterol! Let’s YOLO. Okay, using that term might have just revealed that I’m no longer young. Lame lines aside, The Foodie Station tickled my tastebuds once again by inviting me to its foodie eat up at one of Manila’s classics… Lydia’s Lechon.

Love at First Bite: Toni & Sergio
McKinley is turning into a foodie destination with its new restaurants and beautiful yet still under construction Venice Grand Canal Mall. I decided to reserve a table at Toni &Sergio, a new Italian-Spanish restaurant in the new mall for Mother’s Day after reading about a positive review about the place.
Hello, Toni & Sergio.
We got to the place half an hour earlier than my reservation but we were graciously accommodated by the staff and directed us to the corner table with a couch. Since the place was a bit dark, we moved to the one near the window for some natural light.
With grumbling tummies, we quickly ordered the following: Truffle Cream Soup (PHP150), Creamy Baked Spinach (PHP200), Paella dela Casa (PHP490) and Lasagna 6 Cheese (PHP520).
While waiting for our food, I admired the restaurant's nice interiors and beautiful tiles.
The bowl of truffle cream soup was served first and it was not as creamy as I thought. It was quite light in texture but it was definitely flavorful. However, I think it would have been better with some croutons as the soup was a tad too salty to be enjoyed in one sitting. I had to split the bowl with my mom.
The Creamy Baked Spinach was served next and it was delightful. It was just like the one from Cyma. Creamy, cheesy and spinach-y if there is such a term. It was a wonderful dip or topping for the toasted bread. We loved it so much that we asked for more bread which they gave for free.

My Favorite Food Finds: The Gourmand Market
Ever since I saw an announcement that The Gourmand Market will be in BGC again, I made sure that I pass by the well-known weekend market for me to try some of its mouthwatering dishes. And I was lucky to visit last Friday and Saturday!
I have never been to this lovely weekend market before as I was always away when they stage it. But since R and I had no plans last weekend, I was able to pass by on its first day and R joined me the following day.
I was greeted by a beautiful signage and a set up that seems to have been lifted from a wonderful rustic wedding.
I was greeted by a beautiful signage and a set up that seems to have been lifted from a wonderful rustic wedding.
On my first visit, I made a quick tour of the place and checked which ones look interesting. I spotted stalls that sell hummus, tacos, shawarma, paella, ginger ale, churros, sandwiches and pork belly. I think there are about four or five stalls selling the sinful yet oh so good meat.
Since it was really humid that night, I opted to buy a cup of ice cream from Manila Creamery (PHP120 per cup). I was torn between the two bestsellers Mangga at Suman and Tinutong Rice. I liked both flavors and the burnt rice flavor was surprisingly delicious! But I went with the safer option and got Mangga at Suman. Each cup of it is topped with some sort of coconut jam syrup.
What I loved about this flavor is that it was not that sweet and the taste was not overwhelming. I also liked that there were some chewy parts that reminded me of sticky rice.
I then bought a cup of pressed Sugar Cane Juice with Ginger (PHP70) from Healthy Cane after finishing my cup of ice cream.

Second Bite: Adaäm and Yves
Organic?
Blargh! Most restaurants that use that word come up with hella expensive
dishes. And when this trend was still in its earlier stages, most
establishments have no clue how to make it more palatable. I recall trying some
out and I felt robbed for eating grass that costs like steak. A couple years
later, they finally got the idea that healthy does not exactly have to be
yucky. And one restaurant that captured my heart and tummy is… Adaäm and Yves.
It
has been a few months since I last visited this dark yet charming place. The
industrial interiors truly give this place a chill ambiance while its accent lights add elegance.
R
and I were the early birds that night. The place just opened when we got in and
the servers were still busy putting all the cutleries and condiments in place.
It
was quite warm inside the restaurant as they just turned on the AC. The perk
though of being early is the undivided attention of the staff.
Since
R wasn’t very hungry, we decided to share Cabo Quesadillas (PHP340) and A Day
is Ibiza (PHP495). We also ordered a glass of Coco Rocha (PHP175) for a sweet
treat.
Service was quick as our dishes arrived in less than 20 minutes.
The
serving of Cabo Quesadillas is quite generous and good for sharing. The toasted
tortilla, which reminded me of crunchy pancake, was topped with free-range
chicken sausage bits, cheese and sour cream.
I
loved the play of textures and flavors. The crunchy base, soft and slightly
salty chicken sausage bits, and creamy and tangy sauces all made this dish divine. I also loved the delightful sunny-side up egg that I had the
pleasure to poke for its yellow yolk to ooze.
I
was a bit disappointed with the serving size of the paella. It was quite small
and it was even more expensive than the quesadillas. But it had two pieces of prawns, mussels and clams so... fine.
I liked the texture of the Valencian-style organic red rice. It was slightly firmer than the usual grains I eat on regular days. It went well with the seafood toppings and it was even better with lemon juice drizzled on it to balance the paella's saltiness. It was also pretty heavy despite its small serving size.

Restaurant Love: ArroZeria Manila
I have been planning to visit Le
Petit Soufflé for months now but every time I plan to, it gets cancelled.
*sigh* I had my heart and tummy ready for a French
dinner after my sister’s graduation but since we failed to reserve a table, we
had to move elsewhere and our second option was not bad at all… not at all.
Hello again, ArroZeria
Manila!
It has been a few months since I last
visited this place and I recall that service was a bit slow given that they
only prepare the paella after you order (though you could actually call in advance
for them to prepare it before you arrive). But the food was awesome so I didn’t
mind the wait. I went crazy over the Valenciana and risotto.
We ordered Paella Valenciana (PHP295,
minimum of two orders) again that night as well as Carpaccio de Atun (PHP195), Pepito
de Ternera (PHP250), Fideua Negra
(PHP295, minimum of two orders) and Cochinillo
(PHP650).
First served that night was the paella
and it was surprising given that was one of the last dishes served the last
time I went.
The texture seemed to be tougher this
time but the lovely flavor was still there. I felt a bit short of the chicken
as there were 6 of us sharing paella
good for two. (Okay, fine. It was actually good for four persons.) The manager
scraped off the burnt paella and distributed it amongst us and it was pretty
good too! The crunchy texture with the sauce of Valenciana
made my tummy happy.
Next served was the Fiduea Negra.
I loved the chewy
texture of the octopus
and thin noodles.
It wasn’t that salty too. But there was one problem. The black
squid ink sticks to your teeth. Avoid this when you’re on a date.

Restaurant Love: Silantro Fil-Mex Cantina
My
colleagues and I have been planning to do a Kapitolyo
food trip but the past months were quite demanding due to the launch of the
biggest showroom yet of Focus Global, Inc. We all thought that we’d have more
time after the launch but we were still busy with the whole move of the office from
Mandaluyong
to Fort.
But nothing can stop hungry office workers from having happy tummies.
Hello, Silantro!
It took us a long time before we decided to go with Silantro.
It’s the curse of having so many options.
One wants this place while another says the other. It was hard to reach a consensus.
Anyway, Silantro won.
I ordered the Completo
(PHP110) again with three choices of meat. This time, I went with beef, lengua and oxtail. We
also ordered nachos (PHP160) and J treated us Papi’s Fritas (PHP130). E and I also shared Silantro’s Paella Fajita Mix (PHP250).
First served was the Papi’s Fritas which reminded me of
Animal Fries of In-N-Out.

Love at First Bite: ArroZeria Manila
I absolutely love that I’m surrounded by
people who love to eat. My Instagram feed never fails to make me hungry. It
also gives me ideas on where to eat next. And a few weeks back, someone posted
a photo of paella. Soon, I found myself researching about the restaurant that
serves that paella and after a few minutes, I listed it down on my “must visit”
list. And since it’s my birthday next week, I figured that this is the place to
go to treat some of my favorite people.
Hello, ArroZeria Manila!
This new
Spanish restaurant has been gaining followers since it opened. Located at
Century City Mall’s 4th floor, this place has a homey vibe.
And
ArroZeria is quite artsy too with the ladders on the ceiling and adorable door
handle!
We decided
to go for the following dishes: Tatin De
Tomate (PHP395), Jargo Asado (PHP495),
Panceta Y Trigueros Risotto
(PHP450) and the Paella of the Day, Del
Señorito (PHP275). [One thing you have to be mindful of when ordering Paella,
Caldoso, Meloso and Fideua is
that there’s a minimum order of two.
The prices in the menu are on a per person basis, which we find quite odd.]
Complimentary appetizer! |
The first
dish to arrive was our salad.
I must say,
the presentation was quite different. The lettuce
was on top of the baked parmesan
and the mozzarella
balls and cherry tomatoes on spinach pesto were at the bottom. However, the
taste wasn’t as impressive. It was too bland for me and for the price of almost
PHP400, it was a bit expensive given its serving size.

Love at First Bite: Rambla
Hello, Rambla!
The place is
pretty dark considering it was just 1 p.m. when we visited. I guess that gives
it the cozy date ambiance. (But the place is great for some afternoon chat or
mini gatherings as well.)
It took us a
bit of time to decide on what to order but finally settled with the following:
The “Liquid” Spanish Omelette (PHP125),
Black Paella
with Salmon
Loin Tataki and Baby Carrots (PHP595) and Salmon
and Arugula Mini Pizza
(PHP245).
The liquid
Spanish omelette
arrived first and it was heavenly. The slowly and lowly cooked till creamy egg
yolks topped with caramelized onions was a foodie treat.
I also loved the delightful potato foam that somehow reminded me of cheese for some reason (must be the color). I’ll definitely order three glasses of this next time!

The mini pizza
was served next and it was also a lovely dish. The thick salmon
cut topped with arugula
on a thin crust served as a great appetizer
(or snack). One order is slightly too small for sharing though.
