Cover: An Olympic Stroll

A stroll through the park is a lovely idea for a Sunday. Personally, I'm inclined to theme my activities, parties, photos, etc. So, with what's happening in London at the moment, how about taking today's stroll through Centennial Olympic Park?

Centennial Olympic Park
Centennial Olympic Park is one of our brilliant legacies from the 1996 Summer Olympic Games, which was also the 100th anniversary of the modern Olympic Games.

The Park has a LOT to do and see inside (more than I've had time to discover) and then there's a lot more to see in the area, including:
Visitors to Centennial Olympic Park are also in the midst of downtown, so there are plenty of shopping, dining, and people-watching opportunities.

Back to the Park. In this photo is the "Quilt of Nations," which depicts the flags of all nations that competed in the 1996 Games. There are also fountains, statuary, sculpture, a playground for the youngsters, a concert venue, concession stands, and during the winter, there's even an ice skating rink!

You know what? Today is "International Beer Day" and Der Biergarten is a block from the Park, so if you're so inclined, there's an idea for you.

Enjoy the pre-sized Facebook Cover Photo...it's yours to use as you wish. When you're done here, please head over to the wanderlust ATLANTA Facebook Page and "Like" it, then explore...there's lots there!

ATLANTApix: Der Biergarten

Der Biergarten
Der Biergarten
Atlanta has no shortage of international cuisine options. Der Biergarten, an authentic German cuisine restaurant, is quite near Georgia Aquarium, World of Coca-Cola, and Centennial Olympic Park. Der Biergarten features a beer library of more than a dozen German beers, as well as genuine German cuisine.

The first time I went inside I knew from the exterior decor that it was indeed an establishment featuring German food and more importantly German beverages, but when we walked in the music sounded like what I imagine would play in an Asian bistro...so, either I was there during an off time (it wasn't during lunch or dinner time) or they embrace cultural diversity.

Either way, I'm anxious to return for a Weihenstephan and some brats with a fine imported mustard followed by a generous slice of german chocolate cake!

ATLANTApix: International Cuisine

Dining in Atlanta entails more than the Southern staples of Atlanta-based Waffle House and Mellow Mushroom.

Southerners' palettes are considerably more diverse than some might think.

The recently opened Der Biergarten (photo), located adjacent to Georgia Aquarium, features a significant menu of German cuisine and libations (watch the creation of the mural in this video); RA Sushi at 1080 Peachtree is touted as home of the city's best sushi; and Violette Restaurant, on Clairmont Road, offers some of the best French cuisine in town that I've had.

But, if an authentic Southern culinary experience is what you're longing for, there's always Gladys Knight's Chicken & Waffles on Peachtree Street.
