So Oh In Love

Wow. So Oh in love with The Charlatans' newest tune So Oh. These guys keep going and going getting better and better. Their 12th album Modern Nature is due out Jan 26, 2015. Can't wait.

Snug As Fuck

Liam Finn finally releases the follow-up to 2011's acclaimed FOMO next week. Pitchfork Advance is streaming the full album here with some instagrammy photos and vines short vids to go along with your listening pleasure.

Finn is pushing it to the edge again with The Nihilist, but being Neil's kid can't be easy (he even ends the album with a tune called Wrestle With Dad! Hmm). Liam is finding his way just fine!

You Crave Adventures

Jeremy Messersmith's new album Heart Murmurs "is no less than an attempt to craft a new batch of pop standards" according to NPR. They would know because they've heard it. Now they've made it available for us loyal public radio listeners in full streaming glory one week before it's officially released! The Reluctant Graveyard was an unexpected treat a few years ago so I can't wait to spend some quality time with Heart Murmurs' "subtle strings and sly infectiousness."

Pretty Soon The Connection Is Made

Whoa. Neil Finn. Divebomber. You have our attention. Even my 11-year-old son asked if this tune was The Beatles because it's sounds like one of their "drunken stupor" songs. I'll give him credit for even knowing those tunes!

That is certainly one of the oddest tunes Finn has ever released, but I'm a bit in love with it after my first listen. Dizzy Heights is Finn's new solo album and it's out Feb 11, 2014. Pre-order on iTunes now and get two immediate downloads including Divebomber! Also check out his recent Morning Becomes Eclectic session here.

Your Silence Covers Me

So this is happening right now in that big world of webs...

Arcade Fire's full album stream of Reflektor on YouTube. It's not out until next week, but they knew a leak was inevitable. Enjoy the visuals too!

Give Me A Moment

The Killers announced a new greatest hits package called Direct Hits. Two new tunes will be featured including a collaboration with M83 called Shot At The Night, which musically sounds exactly like what you'd expect from these two neo-New Wavers.

As retro and anthemic both artists are, I'd say they played it safe here. Bonus new tunes on greatest hits compilations tend to be rehashed demos that never found a home on a previous release so I'm underwhelmed but not surprised. It certainly sounds like a nearly unfinished outtake from their most recent album Battle Born, which has been one of my guilty pleasures for most of the year.

Direct Hits is out November 11 just in time for the holidays. More info here.

Just In Time

This new one kinda snuck out there.

Paul McCartney's new album - New - is out October 15. He just recently premiered the new single New, which you can preview below, here, or download via iTunes if you pre-order the new album! Sounds like a typical new, first single from a new McCartney album. I expect the new album to dig deeper, but at least the old man is still making new music!

New.

After Everything

In 2010, I got caught up in the immense buzz around Local Natives and their debut album Gorilla Manor yet it fizzled out quite anticlimactically for me. Perhaps the album needs a revisit. Nonetheless, I'm really digging the new tune Heavy Feet from their upcoming Hummingbird out January 29. Check it out here and below.

The video for the official single Breakers is here. Nice.

To Get Together

The new album from Telekinesis is mystically called Dormarion and is slated for release April 2, which frankly is not soon enough. To satiate our pop needs, we can stream the new tune Ghosts and Creatures here and below.

12 Desperate Straight Lines was certainly one of my favorite albums of 2011 and holds up quite well so Dormarion is near the top of my list of must-haves for the first half of 2013!

I Found Meaning In A Tacky Old Guitar

Pop maestro Bleu is prepping his fifth full-length album for release next year and he's sharing a couple new tunes here. It's Not Over sounds like early Bleu through an 80s McCartney filter - very poppy. And Won't Make It Out Alive is a nice folksy tune with some electronic blips and whistles to make it just a bit different.

Bleu is also touring this fall. Check out dates here.

Finally, Bleu stopped by the Daytrotter studio in July to tape a session. Check it out here.

Take It All In Stride

NPR is currently streaming Grizzly Bear's latest album Shields. With its autumnal and slightly psychedelic vibe it seems like a nice seasonal soundtrack that evokes a less accessible Band of Horses. I briefly watched the band at Lollapalooza back in '08, but admittedly I was hot and tired at that point in the long day and was in no mood! I regret that a bit.

We Can't Wait 'Til Tomorrow

Holy effing 80s. The Killers are back with The Runaways from their new album Battle Born out this fall. There's no hiding it; this is a straight up 80s anthem if I ever heard one, which I've yet to decide is good or bad or meh.

Everything I Want, Everything I Need

Band of Horses released the first full-length tune from their upcoming Mirage Rock due out on September 18. Quite poppy!

Pre-order the new album via iTunes and get an exclusive tune called Ego Nightmare.

Hit Rock Bottom

Call them a purely American experience, Americana, country-rock, dream-rock, whatthefuckever; Band of Horses is releasing their fourth album this September and has teased us with one whole minute of Dumpster World.

Check out previous releases via Amazon or iTunes. You won't be disappointed.

Ride to the Stars

Pretentious as all hell but blissfully dreamy and shoegazey, DIIV has released their full-length debut Oshin this week. It's a sound that is oh-so-difficult to get right, but at first blush DIIV has something special to share. It has built-in indie cred so if that's important to you, here you go. If you're a bit like me and miss the My Bloody Valentines and Chapterhouses that crashed into our lives with shitloads of noise and melody 20+ years ago then check out the stream below and consider the downloads via Amazon or iTunes.

More. Thanks, BUG.
