EXCLUSIVE: BRANDON SCHOTT - HOMEGROWN RECORDINGS VOL. 8

Brandon Schott - Strawberry Fields ForeverBrandon Schott - Homegrown Recordings
Vol. 8 - Strawberry Fields Forever

Read on and you'll discover this will be the final volume of Homegrown Recordings - at least the final of Season 1! Brandon has blessed us these last eight months with some incredible recordings. Thank you. I hope you kept up and enjoyed every single volume. Hopefully we'll do it again soon. In the meantime, go download Dandelion when it's released September 29. It is more than worthy of your attention.

"Greetings Too Poppy nation! I trust you all had a marvelous Labor Day, and are settling back into the school year nicely. Speaking of school - my family and I have been joining the rest of the country in rediscovering The Beatles together this past week. We bought the Stereo Box together last week (the mono was sold out - drat!), and after a modest speech by yours truly about the dwindling appreciation for album art and packaging, we busted open the set and have been slowly listening to the catalog in chronological order. Every morning, my oldest, Tyler, gets to open a new disc out of the big black vertical box that sits near our piano, crack open the sealing and thumb through the booklets while the music pours out of the stereo (or the car speakers). "OH! Daddy, I know this one! AHHHHHH" he shouted as "TWIST AND SHOUT ramped up. I even got my three year old, Harper, singing along to PLEASE PLEASE ME, "C'mon - COME ON, C'mon - COME ON!!" It's been an amazing trip, and to think this could be one of their earliest memories is well worth the price of admission. Anyway, in light of all this I recorded my own stripped down version of STRAWBERRY FIELDS FORVER on Sunday morning that I thought I'd share with you here. Enjoy!

I believe this may be the last download for a while as I turn my attention to getting Dandelion out into the world - let's call it the end of Season 1! The video series will continue, on or about the 10th of every month, so keep your eyes peeled here at toopoppy.com or my youtube page (www.youtube.com/goldenstatemusic). Thanks SO much for all your support. Please spread the word about Dandelion, and don't be a stranger!! Drop me a line and let me know what you thought of this series, or perhaps what you'd like to see in the future. Until our paths cross again, thanks *so* much for your support! Hope to see you again soon!

Much love,
Brandon"

EXCLUSIVE: BRANDON SCHOTT - HOMEGROWN RECORDINGS VOL. 7

Brandon Schott - Homegrown Recordings Vol. 7Brandon Schott - Homegrown Recordings
Vol. 7 - Be My Downfall

This one makes me extremely happy. Little did Brandon know how important Del Amitri's Change Everything is to me. It is one of the core albums in the soundtrack of my life and Be My Downfall represents a very specific relationship that would fulfill my life in all the best ways. Sure, that experience may not necessarily gel lyrically with the song, but music is complicated. Well done, Brandon. Well done.

"Hey everyone! Hope you are all having a wonderful wonderful summer, keeping cool and taking time to enjoy the sun! This month's mp3 is a live in the studio version of Del Amitri's "BE MY DOWNFALL" performed on baritone ukulele during the summer of 2006. Hope you enjoy! And be sure to check out this month's Homegrown Video performance of "PAPER WINGS" as well - featuring a special double surprise instrumental turn at around the 2:10 mark! :) Until our paths cross again, be well, take care of each other and have a beautiful and inspired rest of your summer. Much love...B"

EXCLUSIVE: BRANDON SCHOTT - HOMEGROWN RECORDINGS VOL. 6

Brandon Schott - Homegrown Recordings Vol. 6Brandon Schott - Homegrown Recordings
Vol. 6 - Simple Life (Too Poppy Acoustic Remix)

Special treats this month, Too Poppers - a remixed acoustic version of Simple Life and a glimpse of not only the sound of his new album but how Brandon recorded it as well. Where else can you get this? Look up "exclusive" for your answer.

"Welcome back, folks! This month's free offering is a special acoustic remix of SIMPLE LIFE created specifically for the Homegrown series. I cracked open the original SIMPLE LIFE session, pared it back and added a few new bells and whistles (including a backwards music box, glockenspiel and percussion). The original (and more rockin' version) can be found on GOLDEN STATE, now available on iTunes.

See you next month right here at toopoppy.com for more exclusive content as we count down to the release of my 3rd LP, "DANDELION" - coming September 22, 2009. Until our paths cross again, much love to you..."

EXCLUSIVE: BRANDON SCHOTT - HOMEGROWN RECORDINGS VOL. 5

Brandon Schott - Homegrown Recordings Vol. 5

Brandon Schott - Homegrown Recordings
Vol. 5 - Dear Someone

Alright, Too Poppiers. Now is the time to tell your friends, families, colleagues, children, and pets about Mr. Brandon Schott. Go on. Give them this link. Give them all the freebies we've been delivering all year while they're still free. Download the albums. C'mon. Go to Facebook, Twitter, Usenet, Blogger, WordPress, Tumblr. I don't care. Just tell somebody. I never ask anything of you. That's your one job today. Thank you. Now enjoy the latest Homegrown Recording - a beautiful cover and a preview of one of the fine tunes from his upcoming album...
First of all, sorry for the delay in this month's delivery - the homegrown stork got crazy buzzed on pixie sticks and flew circles around it's targeted release date. He's passed out in the bathtub with a bad bad headache, clutching a thermos of chamomile tea and is now sleeping it off (he'll be fine). Speaking of storks, it seems that this is the month for many friends and family of mine to be reproducing and having them babies (YAY!), so I thought it would be appropriate to offer up another quiet piece from my un-finished lullaby project. I hereby present to you, faithful downloaders, my version of the amazing Gillian Welch song "DEAR SOMEONE". The guitar and vocal were recorded live in my friend Jake SImpson's bathroom, with a few dreamy overdubs added later for good measure. Much love to you and yours, and yay again for them babies! Until next month, all my love and pleasant dreams...

EXCLUSIVE: BRANDON SCHOTT - HOMEGROWN RECORDINGS VOL. 2

BRANDON SCHOTT - HOMEGROWN RECORDINGS
Vol. 2: "Out of My Hands"Brandon Schott - Homegrown Recordings Vol. 2

OUT OF MY HANDS dates back to the Golden State era, recorded live in a living room February 2006 with my friends and fellow songwriters Jared Woods and Andrew Norsworthy. Andrew and Jared are based out of Ankorage, AK and breezed through LA for only a few days while on tour. After playing a show together at Room 5, I planted the seed that we convene the following night at my friend Jason Wormer's home in Los Feliz (where we tracked most of Golden State) for a little old-school/Laurel Canyon aesthetic. Thankfully, they said yes. After a few run throughs and some last minute lyric tweaks, there we were: three guitars, three vocals facing each other in a circle playing a song I'd only written a few days prior.

In an age of digital cut and paste it was a really beautiful way to spend an evening with my talented friends, making music and memories in real time. Special thanks again to Jared and Andrew for taking the time to grace my song, and to Jason for capturing it all.

See you guys next month, and thanks as always for your support!

No offense to my friends, but when we get together we usually just drink beer and talk about other people's creations. We don't create anything ourselves let alone a beautiful tune like Out of My Hands. Thank you, Mr. Schott - another fine accomplishment. Can't wait for April's Homegrown Recording.

EXCLUSIVE: BRANDON SCHOTT - HOMEGROWN RECORDINGS VOL. 1

UPDATE: Greetings, Popdosers! Welcome to Too Poppy. Check out the first season finale of Homegrown Recordings here (Brandon's excellent cover of Strawberry Fields Forever will be available for a limited time).

Below is the first volume of an exclusive feature courtesy of Brandon Schott. I can't express how honored I was when Brandon presented this idea to me and how this first installment sent chills down my spine within seconds of hearing it (the good kind of chills). Anyone with kids - or any Bjork fan - will understand. We should all be thankful he's willing to share ... in his words ...

BRANDON SCHOTT - HOMEGROWN RECORDINGS
Vol 1: "ALL IS FULL OF LOVE"

Brandon Schott - Homegrown RecordingsWelcome to the first in what I hope is a long series of peeks into my soundbook. I thought it would be fun to comb through my iTunes library and pull out a few odds and ends of mine that didn't make any official release, but I thought might be worth sharing. Special thanks to Too Poppy for enthusiastically hosting!! In addition to these free downloads (always here at Too Poppy), on the 10th of every month, I'll be simultaneously posting a 'live-from-my-living-room' performance series on youtube and myspace.

The first offering speaks for the apt theme of our series' birth. This modest little version of Bjork's "ALL IS FULL OF LOVE" was recorded shortly before my 2nd son, Harper, was born in 2006- in an effort to both calm my nerves as well as compile a record of lullabys (both original and familiar) for his first slumbers in our world. The project was eventually displaced by his welcome arrival, which initially left me with little time to rest myself - let alone time work on such a sleepy project. The track was engineered and mixed by my dear friend Jake Simpson, who graciously set me loose on his vast collection of vintage synths (my lead vocal, guitar and our joint background vocals were recorded in his bathroom). A true homegrown affair.

Thanks so much for listening, and sweet dreams until next month! :)

EXCLUSIVE: TEASER

I started Too Poppy years ago to find a connection to the music that I once had when I worked it radio. It was also a lovely way to relieve a bit of the stress inherent in the law school experience. I've intentionally kept Too Poppy low profile - I've never had grandiose plans. We live a simple life around here and god forbid we mess that up.

But...

When one of your favorite Too Poppy artists suggests something special, you need to consider doing a bit more. That's why for the first time we'll shake up Too Poppy and offer you an EXCLUSIVE tomorrow.

That's all I'll say for now. You've been teased. Did it feel good?
