UFO Busting #117

Happy Saturday!!!  I swear time is speeding up.  It feels like I just wrote last week's post.  Even though the clock keeps ticking, I did get all my blocks for the Christmas coin quilt pieced.  I just forgot to grab a photo of them.  A little adventure on my day off lead me to a town 45 minutes away with a JoAnn Fabric.  I decided to indulge in a little retail therapy.

It all started with that blue cherry print screaming my name and the other fabrics just fell in line.  Don't you hate when that happens?  I know, I don't either.  I have two patterns in mind for this one.  Both are patterns I've written and might just end in a give away when this top is finished.

My next retail therapy purchase will be a surprise gift for a friend who LOVES flamingos.  Again, it started with a panel and it gained friends.

I had no idea this much flamingo fabric existed...let alone in one store.  But as one purchase leads to another, I found myself downloading a book for the Kindle.  I'm kind of excited to dig into it because it's all about how to use panels!

The book is Learn to Quilt with Panels by Carolyn Vagts (not an affiliate link).  This book is suppose to give example layouts for panels and walk you through the process of creating your own layouts using different styles of panels.  I know I have several panels just laying around in my sewing room, so any direction on using them can only lead to finished quilts.  I'm pretty excited about this book.

Enough about me, let's see what you were up to last week.  First up, we have Karen at Quilts...who is working up a storm.  She's got tiny hexies slowly growing into a quilt.  A cozy looking sweater and some hand quilting that left me drooling!

Make sure you pop over to check out everything she has going on!  It will definitely satisfy all quilt cravings you have.

Next up we have Gretchen at Gretchen's Little Corner and a quilt finish!!!  I LOVE the colors in her quilt.  I will always have a found place in my heart for blue and yellow/gold quilts.

Not only does this quilt have beautiful fabrics, but lots of beautiful hand embroidery blocks.  Please stop by and congratulate her on this finish.  Those hand stitched blocks are definitely something to check out.

UFO Busting #116

Happy Saturday!  Welcome back to another week of UFO Busting.  A time we cross things off our lists, add things to it and sometimes just plain ignore it.  This week I managed to squeak in a tiny amount of quilting and finished up a new project.  A stars and stripes wall hanging.

I had picked up the fat quarter bundle a while back and just love how it mimics hand dyed fabrics.  Not sure if I should keep the quilting simple or go all out.  What are your thoughts?

How about my thoughts?  I am in love with the progress that Rebecca at Cheeky Cognoscenti is making on her Moda Modern Building Blocks!

This is one of my all time favorite quilts, with my own version in some limbo of finished begging me to come back to it.  But Rebecca isn't just excited and celebrating this, she finished up her OMG goal last month, which deserves huge pats on the back!  Any time you can cross something off a list it is celebration time.  She also has a linky party called Long Arm Learning that kicked off last week.

Don't let the title fool you.  This party is for everyone, long arm and domestic quilters too.  I think we can all learn from each other.  So make sure you visit Rebecca and learn about her party and congratulate her on the awesome week.

So now it's your turn.  What have you been up to this past week?  Link up below and tell us all about it.

UFO Busting #115

It's Saturday!  And it's time to get down to some UFO Busting.  UFO Busting what does that meaning?  Maybe it means you are slaying those unfinished projects with finishes happening all around you.  Maybe it means your UFOing is a bust and you have new projects ever where.  What ever it means to you, I do hope you'll join in our party and link up below.

This week, my UFOing was a bust and not a one was touched.  I did celebrate a 2020 finish of two baby quilts made from a bento box pattern.

You can read more about these super quick and easy baby quilts here.

I decided this week it was time to get back on track and make a to-do list since nothing seems to be getting ta-done.  One thing I forgot to put on my list that had to take precedence was face masks for a certain collage girl.  Time flies and this Sunday my niece will be returning back to college and needed super cool masks to take with her.  Aunt Tish to the rescue.

Hopefully she will be stylin' and profilin' in her new 3D masks.

Now it's time to buckle down and concentrate on that list.  Tuesday will be here before you know it and it will be time to see how I did.

Let's see that you were up to at the last party.  First up we have Maggie at Making a Lather celebrating a UFO finish, her 2018 Square Dance finish.

Make sure you stop by to congratulate her on her finish and read about the fun little bit that's on the back of the quilt.  I think she just saved some patchwork blocks from becoming a UFO.

Next up we have Gretchen at Gretchen's Little Corner and she's been seeing stars...Ohio Stars.

These stars are part of her rainbow scrap challenge project.  I just adore the civil war fabrics she is using and can't wait to see the whole thing finished!  Stop by and check our her progress.

Now it's your turn.  Link up below and tell us what you have been up to this week.

UFO Busting #114

Welcome back to another week of UFO Busting.  A place where we can meet up and share what we have been tackling for the week.  I'm happy to report, probably one of the most productive weeks I've had in a while.  I have two baby quilts all quilted up and almost have them bound.

Though they are practically the same quilt, I quilted each with a different all over design.  I love swirls.  I do not like stitching them, because, well, I don't feel I'm good at it.  The only way to feel better is to keep doing them.  So expect more swirling on my horizon.

Next up I have another baby quilt all basted together and I'm itching to start quilting it.

Every time I see these adorable little cat prints I smile.  In my head I'm seeing an all over heart motif in light teal thread.  I will probably make up a smaller practice quilt sandwich to see if I can make what is in my head work before committing.

And lastly, I'm feeling a little Christmas in July.  With the crazy hot temperatures, I can't help crave a little of the cold white stuff.  And when I think snow, I think Christmas.

So all week, I've been piecing Christmas coins in my spare time.  I love the sparkly gold detail in most of the fabrics. Once the coin sets are complete (I have two more to go), I can begin to piece the blocks.

Some simple sashing strips and this quilt is sure to piece up super quick.  I can't wait to share the quilt top with you soon.

Now let's see what you were up to last week.  First up we have Janice over at Color, Creating and Quilting.  Janice has found the perfect project to use up tiny scraps from a king size quilt she is working on.

Make sure you visit Janice to read about this cool idea and where she got the idea from.  Also, I believe she has some neck ties she would like to re-home if you are interested.

One of the many things I love about quilting, is how you can take a block and make it look completely different by just changing fabric placements, flipping lights and darks, or just any simple tweek.

At that's just what's been going on over at Sew Yummy.  Stop by and read about how she change up an already great quilt pattern she made before into something even more fun!

Now it's your turn.  Link up below and show us what you've been up to this week.

UFO Busting #113

Happy double party Saturday!  Double party?  Yes, along with UFO Busting, yesterday I also hosted the TGIFF party.  Check out all the wonderful posts and finishes we had here.  So what was I celebrating?  My finish of the Pinwheels in the Park quilt.

You can read more about this finish and my three year irrational ways that lead to this quilt's finish delay here.

With my state moving towards a mandatory mask initiative my focus this week has been back to mask making.  I decided my co-workers and I needed new masks and fun ones at that.  I tried to make everyone a mask out of something I knew they would like and we decided to have a little fun with it.

We deiced to have a little contest to see which mask our customer's like the most.  The winner is undetermined as of now.  Batman seems to be in the lead though.

Now let's see what you've been up to this past week.  First up we have Donna Lee, who managed to surprise herself with finishes.  Donna Lee finished up a little positively fun piece this week that had to be originally put on hold because of a binding snafu.

But this wasn't the only finish for Donna Lee this week.  Nope.  But you will have to hop over to Donna Lee Q to see the second one.  She does a much better job telling you about it.

Next up we have some absolutely stunning quilting by Sandra at mmm!quilts.  Stunning doesn't even begin to describe the quilting details on this quilt.

Sandra made Fly High using the Migrating Geese pattern (details in her post) to create this gorgeous quilt for a RSC challenge project.  She quilted this quilt using a plethora of quilt designs inspired by several super talented quilters...and the result is just breath taking.  If you haven't already, please take some time to go drool over (it's a quilt, it will wash) and read about the quilting of this quilt.  I'm just speechless.

Now it's your turn.  Link up below and show us what you've been up to this week.

UFO Busting #112

Happy Saturday!!  Today in the US we are celebrating our Independence Day and I thought that was cause for a little fire works in the logo.  I didn't mean to, but I kinda got distracted by a 4th of July squirrel.  I ran across this free pattern on Pinterest a while back and fell in love with the easy design and color palette.

It measures in at 48" square.  I can't wait to quilt this one, which is actually why I pieced it...the anticipation of quilting.  Melissa breaks down how to make this quilt and you can grab a free copy of it on her page at Polka Dot Chair.

I did find a bit of time to work on one of the possible Christmas themed quilts.

I LOVE working with precuts.  It makes fabric prep a breeze.  I was able to trim 3 charm packs into 2.5"x 5" rectangles for the coin quilt, literally in minutes.  When I need something mindless to work on, this will be my project.

A not mindless project will be to make a few more masks, but changing it up a bit this time.  Early in the week, I played around with a 3D pattern for masks that I found here.  The tutorial is a youtube video, but I found it quite helpful in constructing this mask.

Our state is seriously considering making them mandatory, so I'm getting prepared.  I hope to make masks for my fellow coworkers this weekend.  These seem a bit more breathable than the first type I made.

Another bit of exciting news I want to share is that Cheryl over at Meadow Mist Designs kicked off her latest Mystery Quilt Along Thursday, The Morewood Mystery Quilt.

I'm always in love with Cheryl's designs and have made many of her quilts.  I'm proud to say that I helped pattern test this one and it does not disappoint.  I LOVED every minute of it.  This month she released the fabric requirements.  If you don't enjoy picking out mystery fabrics, she has several kit options that can be purchased and I promise all of them would be eye popping!  I thought I would share with you my fabric choices.

But that's all you get from me.  My lips are sealed.  If you'd like to join in on all the fun, stop over and take a peek at the fabric requirement list here.

Not lets celebrate some finishes, shall we?  First up we have Kathleen at Kathleen McMusing and her version of Sandra at mmm!quilts latest quilt along, Centered.  Kathleen is calling her version Purplicious and it is!

I just love those purples and all that yummy quilting!!!  Make sure you visit with Kathleen and check out her finishes from Sandra's previous three quilt alongs.  All those quilts will leave you drooling.

Next up we have Vicki over at Vicki's Crafts and Quilting and her recent finish.   She started this little quilt in early 2019 and, like most of my quilts, landed in the how do I quilt this pile.

Lucky for the quilt, Vicki decided to pull it out and dance a beautiful swirly feather design across the top of it.  Vicki, I want to free hand quilt like you when I grow up!  Make sure you hop over to congratulate her on this finish and check out her beautiful quilting.

Now it's your turn.  Link up below and show us what you've been up to this week.

Another bit of news...come back next week and on Friday I will also be hosting the TGIFF Linky party and finally sharing the pinwheel quilt with you.

It's a chance to get together and celebrate those finishes!  We will also UFO bust on Saturday.  Hope everyone has a great week and I look forward to seeing you next week!

UFO Busting #111

It's Saturday and you know what that means...it's time to link up and show off all the hard work you have been doing...over the past two weeks.  I say two weeks because some one didn't show up for their own party last week.  Oops.  But I'm back this week.  The only actual sewing that showed up was finishing the binding on the Pin Wheel Quilt.

It feels good to cross another UFO off the list.  I'll tell you more more about this quilt soon.

I did have some happy mail.  I have been drooling over Natalia Bonner's ruler set for quite some time now.  I could sit for hours and watch her quilt...wait I do sometimes.  I'm on her patreon page.  So as a reward of all the working I do, I decided to take the plunge and order them.

Not that I don't have a ton of rulers anyway, I can't image ever needing another one.  I think these cover all bases.  I'm super excited to give this a go!!!

But before I give them a test run, I have a few baby quilts that need a quick all over job before I tackle something custom and complex.

So I think I will start this weekend with this sweet little Bento Box quilt with my favorite Aurifil Dove thread.  I'm visioning a stipple or maybe some loops, but, 100%, a quick satisfying finish.

With July right around the corner, I hear Christmas fabric calling my name.  Who knows, as crazy as this year has been it may be snowing by then any way.  I pulled out some Holiday precuts I purchased last year and started contemplating.

First up is these beautiful charm packs of Cardinal Song Metallic, a wonderful gold shimmer.  Cardinals just happen to be my state's bird.  I love seeing their bright pops of red against a fresh Christmas snow.  I see them going into a free Moda Bake Shop pattern I've had downloaded for a while.

Or I could cut into this yummy white and off white fabric with this strip set of Jingle Pop...also sporting the metallic dazzle but in silver tones.

This one will turn into a fun modern plus quilt, because I positively love the holidays.  I can practically smell the cookies now.

Now let's celebrate some finishes.  First up we  have Anja over at Anja Quilts and her flying geese quilt.

Anja designed this one while putting her EQ8 skills, learned at a workshop, to the test.  I love the way the hand quilting adds a cute little detail to those geese, but that's not the cutest little detail on the quilt.  Do you see it???  If you don't you've got to go read her post and let her point it out to you.  Anja, I think I need a tutorial on how you did that cute little finishing detail in the binding.

Next up we have Gail over at Quilting Gail and a baby quilt finish.

Gail quilted this sweet little quilt with loops and stars and it will make the perfect snuggle quilt once the little bundle of joy is here.  I love visiting Gail's blog because she really is one of the most organized quilters in knowing what status her projects are in.  Seeing her lists always reminds me to check mine.  So if you haven't hop over and congratulate her on her finish and read about all the projects she's got going on.

Now it's your turn.  Link up below and show us what you've been up to this week.
