Top 5 Mountain Biking Destinations in Colorado.

When you think of the top destinations for mountain bikers, Colorado is commonly included since it features numerous mountain bike trails. Whether you’re looking for sky-scraping mountains, thousand-mile singletrack, or challenging bike trails such as the ones in Breckenridge, Aspen, or Vail, you’ll definitely include Colorado in your bucket list.

Here are five of the best mountain bike destinations in Colorado that will surely take your breath away.

Breckenridge or Summit County
Summit County is popular for being one of the best skiing sites in the U.S. It features the spectacular, high alpine single bike track. From Breckenridge or Summit County via a single track, you can also ride across nearby towns such as Copper, Leadville, Keystone, Silverthorne, Dillon, and Breckenridge. Summit County features over 250 miles of singletrack within its borders. Nevertheless, the general count is at least 812 miles of mountain bike trails within a 25-mile radius in Breckenridge.

It’s quite challenging though to deal with the mountain-scaling black diamond single tracks and low-lying starter trails in Summit County. You can also observe lift-serviced DH trails, dirt jump parks, pumptracks, and bike parks.
Crested Butte.
Crested Butte
Crested Butte is most popular as being one of the pioneers of mountain biking as a sport. The bike trail at Crested Butte though is incomparable to any bike trail outside Colorado. This mountain biking destination takes pride in its magnificent high-alpine bike trails that go for hundreds of miles.

Most of the bike tracks at Crested Butte though are old-school 750-mile singletracks. Nevertheless, modern flow trails and DH are being adopted because of the continuous expansion of Evolution Bike Park at the Crested Butte Mountain Resort. Crested Butte also features two unique in-town parks and progression bike parks that continue to blossom every night.
Grand Valley.
Grand Valley
The Grand Valley is considered a geographic area in the Western Slope of Colorado which also includes the towns of Palisade, Loma, Fruita, and Grand Junction. The bike trail in this area is mostly desert singletrack, which is ideal for a spring, winter, or autumn riding trip. Grand Valley though does not have high-elevation singletrack, and this accounts for Colorado’s diversity in terms of its bike tracks.

Trails are constantly being built in the Grand Valley. Tourism has also been improved through certain establishments like micro-breweries and restaurants. Grand Valley also features Powderhorn, a ski resort situated on the Grand Mesa. A new bike park was also opened in Powderhorn to draw more riders from other regions in Colorado.

Durango
Durango is considered one of the first mountain bike towns that have hosted the first UCI mountain bike world championships. This town also features the oldest mountain bike shops in the country, the Mountain Bike Specialists. There are about 300 miles of bike trails that can be accessed within 30 minutes in Durango. These bike trails are basically high alpine singletracks above treelines and dry, desert in-town trails.

Fort Lewis College in Durango is regarded as one of the most legitimate mountain bike race programs in Colorado. It has constantly produced world-class athletes as well. Durango also features about 20 trailheads, shuttles, five local breweries, six bike shops, bike paths, a new bike park, a skate park, and a BMX track.
Salida.
Salida
The Arkansas Valley located in Salida is known for its diverse climate zones. You can go cycling above the treeline in Salida’s high-alpine singletracks down to the desert area on the valley floor. Because of its unique ecosystem, Salida is an ideal mountain bike destination during winter or hot summers.

In just 45 minutes of driving to Salida, you will see about 500 miles of superb bike-legal singletracks and miles of doubletracks and jeep roads. There are also three main long-distance trails that intersect Salida and a range of bike-packing routes.

Colorado has a lot to offer when it comes to adventure through its spectacular mountain bike destinations. It is just a matter of discovering the various singletracks, trails, and routes that are quite hidden in the state’s alpine mountains and valleys. However, mountain bikers should take the necessary precautionary measures, especially if it’s their first time. But if you do get involved in a bicycle accident, know that you can recover from your injuries and get compensation for it through the help of legal experts such as a personal injury attorney. So remember, be safe and have fun throughout your journey!

3 Reliable Methods To Help You Choose The Appropriate Size Of Bike.

Did you know that the size of bike that you buy is of much significance when it comes to your health, your comfort level when riding, as well as your riding posture? Most people buying bikes tend to neglect this aspect, as they tend to focus on other factors such as price, model, and features of the bike. Usually, the size of the bike that you choose determines your comfort level, the pressure your wrist takes when riding and the level of control as you ride. One of the common questions that most new buyers have is whether there is a method used in determining the appropriate size of bike for them. This article provides an overview of 3 simple yet reliable methods of determining the appropriate size of bike.
Bike ride, anyone? :)

1. Use of bike size calculator

The use of the bike size calculator is one of the easiest methods to find the ideal size for you. Often, majority of people do not know the value of choosing the ideal bike size. However, you do not have to strain and worry about all the measurements. All you need is just a bike size calculator. Using the bike size calculator is not only simple but also fast –it will do everything for you. The only thing that you will be required to do is answer a couple of basic questions, after which the calculator should indicate the bike size that aligns with your answers. Check out this awesome calculator now.
Bike size chart.
2. Use of bike charts (easy and simple)
The other alternative that you can consider is the use of bike size charts. This method is advantageous in two ways. The first advantage is that it is simple to use, and the other is that it can be used by anyone since it requires no technical knowledge. All one is supposed to do is evaluate and compare his or her size with respect to the bike size. Often, the charts give just estimation and hence, there is no one size that is considered fitting for you. For example, if you are between 4’11’’ and 5’3’’, the chart estimates that your ideal size of bike (center to top) should be 13-15 inches.

3. Use of advanced bike size charts
The difference between the advanced and the simple bike size charts is the fact that the advanced ones can offer you the chance to find the most appropriate size. Choosing the ideal size using the advanced bike size charts is easy since they have specialized charts for each type of bike. For example, the charts show whether the bike is ideal for females or males, its size in centimeters, as well as a size description such as XXS, XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL. Choosing the appropriate size of a bike is something that many people overlook while others find it hard. However, with the three methods highlighted above, you will find it easy to choose the right size for you.

World Savings Day | More Pinoys recognize the value of saving money.

More than two years after the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, Filipinos raring for a restart actually improved their mindset towards saving money, according to a recent survey by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).

This is a welcome development, considering that 34% of the population lost their source of income during pandemic years, based on a survey conducted by the United Nations Development Programme. As a result, many have relied entirely in their savings account in order to survive the last two years.

According to the BSP’s Consumer Expectations Survey for the first quarter of 2022, the percentage of household with savings increased marginally at 31.1 percent from 30.2 percent in Q4 of 2021.Majority of the respondents cited the need for emergencies, health and medical expenses, retirement, education, and business capital and investment as reasons to save their money.

A big help in this increase in mindset and enthusiasm is the availability of more options to save money, aside from traditional banking institutions.

Cebuana Lhuillier makes life easier and dreams come true with Micro Savings
One of the most innovative means to save is through Cebuana Lhuillier Micro Savings. Launched in 2019 by Cebuana Lhuillier and its banking arm Cebuana Lhuillier Bank, this product has been in the forefront of bringing easy, accessible, reliable banking to majority of Filipinos, with close to seven million micro savings account holders today.

Cebuana Lhuillier Micro Savings empowered millions of Filipinos to embark on their very own financial journeys by giving them a reliable, accessible, and efficient way to save their money, which they can easily withdraw during times of need. The quick adaptation of our kababayans to micro savings proved that the healthy mindset towards saving has always been there, as long as they are equipped with the right tools,” says Jean Henri Lhuillier, president and CEO of Cebuana Lhuillier.

Cebuana Lhuillier Micro Savings—which allows customers to open an account in any of over 3,000 Cebuna Lhuillier branches nationwide for as low as only P50—was introduced as a means to address the barriers to saving, including lack of accessibility, high maintaining balance, and the need for numerous documentary requirements to open an account.

With businesses and the rest of the country slowly getting back to normal, Cebuana Lhuillier Micro Savings remained a go-to product for many of our kababayans ready to resume their lives and dreams following two years of uncertainty.

James Tan, 18 years old, a working student from Laguna,
who easily managed to save with Micro Savings to buy his own bike

For James Tan, an 18-year-old working student from Sta. Rosa, Laguna, saving meant enjoying the added mobility, safety, and convenience of having his own bike, a useful tool for his daily commute between work and school.

(“I want to own a bike because I can save so much on fares commuting to school and work. So that’s why I saved with Cebuana enough to buy my own bike. Now I don’t get stuck in traffic and come to work late.”)

As a working student helping to support his family, James decided to continue his savings after buying the bike to also help augment the expenses from home.

Royce Jason Velez, a 36-year old construction worker
who saves using Cebuana Lhuillier Micro Savings account
to provide a better future for his family

The need to provide a better future for their family is also why Royce Jayson Velez, a 36-year-old construction worker, decided to open a Micro Savings account. Earning an average of P400 per day, Royce and his wife needed to be creative in order to stretch his salary to last until the next payday. His micro savings carried the family during difficult times, and are now being allocated for the schooling of his children.

Sabi ko sa sarili ko, ipagpapatuloy ko ang ipon ko para magamit ng mga anak ko sa pag-aaral at balang araw, magkaroon sila ng magandang trabaho,”Velez shares.

(“I said to myself that I would continue saving so that I can send my children to school for them have good jobs in the future.”)

A former kasambahay, Carie Labro, 38-years old,
was able to put up her own sari-sari store
using Cebuana Lhuillier Micro Savings

For Carie Labro, a 38-year-old former housekeeper, her micro savings paved the way for her micro entrepreneurship. When her kids started asking for more time to spend with her, Carie decided to take a leap of faith and resign from her post as a housekeeper so she could be more present for her growing kids.

With the PHP10,000 she initially saved in her Micro Savings account, Labro opened a small store which she now maintains as her main source of income. Like Velez, she has vigilantly kept up with her micro savings. She now saves part of her earnings in her account as an emergency fund for her and her kids.

Taking advantage of the renewed interest in saving, Cebuana Lhuillier Bank continues to push for accessibility and convenience for their breakthrough product. The two-time Asian Banking & Finance Award winner for Rural Bank of the Year has adapted an innovative approach by adapting more tech features for micro savings.

The success of Cebuana Lhuillier Micro Savings encouraged us to further push the envelope in bringing convenience, accessibility, reliability, and efficient banking to our clients. The change in how people access financial services nowadays served as our push towards digitalization,” said Cebuana Lhuillier Bank President Dennis Valdes.

Aside from Cebuana Lhuillier branches, micro savings accountholders can also withdraw cash anytime, anywhere in over 21,000+ BancNet ATMs nationwide, purchase online thru UnionPay merchants worldwide, enjoy 24/7 unlimited banking access with the eCebuana app, and make cashless payments in over 350,000 UnionPay and BancNet accredited stores nationwide.

5 Things You Should Know about Motorcycle Travel.

Travel is a wonderful experience and there are many ways to do it, including on a motorcycle. It's a minimalist approach to seeing the world and makes for some great memories. However, there are a variety of things to keep in mind before you hop on your bike and hit the road. By being well prepared, you can enjoy what your trip has to offer without concern that something will go wrong. Here are the most important things to know about motorcycle travel, especially if it's your first trip.

Hong Jong Hyun for Arena Magazine (2015).
Choose the Right Bike
If you're going a long distance on your motorcycle, you want to be sure you choose one that is reliable, but that is also comfortable. After all, you're facing hours on the bike, so it should have an ergonomic seat and handles that don't make your arms too tired to hold onto. You should also choose a bike that is safe and that you know won't break down along the way. You must also insure your motorcycle and One Sure Insurance is a great resource for getting you covered.

Get the Right Accessories
Of course, you should never ride your motorcycle without a helmet because it's unsafe and can easily ruin your trip if you get into an accident. Not to mention the risk of major injury or even death in some cases. But if you're out on the open road, you might also consider getting a sidecar or large storage compartment, so you have a place for snacks, your smartphone, clothes and other necessities.

Kim Woo Bin in Heirs (2013).

Prepare Your Bike for the Long Journey
There's nothing worse than breaking down in the middle of nowhere so it pays to inspect your bike to be sure it's up for the trip. Have the oil changed, the tires checked and replaced if necessary, and the lights and speedometer looked over to be sure they are in proper working order. Your local mechanic can help you determine if your bike needs work before you leave.

Follow Traffic Rules
It's no fun getting stopped and given a ticket or fine for not obeying the rules of the road. Not only can it be costly, but you may have to return to the place you were pulled over to go to court and that could be pretty far from home depending on where you are in your journey. Be sure you pay close attention to the speed limit, the weight limits and the other rules you need to follow so that you can comply. Of course, this won't ensure other people stick to the rules of the road, so it's still possible that you might end up in an accident. If this happens, you should find motorcycle accident attorneys near you that can offer legal help if you've been injured.

Ahn Hyo Seop and Shin Hye Sun in Thirty But Seventeen (2018).

Ensure Proper Rest in Between
Before you leave, it's a good idea to map your route and include places to stop and take a rest as often as you need to, at least a few times per day. This way you won't be so tired and road weary that you risk an accident or falling asleep behind the wheel. Plan to take a bathroom and food break every couple of hours and be sure you leave enough time to get a full night's rest at the end of each day.

Ideas for Garden Storage.

Whether your garden's in desperate need of organisation, you have just taken up gardening or you want somewhere to keep your bike, you'll have to review your outdoor storage options. Below, I've given you a quick run-through of the main types of garden storage - hopefully, this'll help you work out exactly what you need.

1) Bike sheds
These days, more and more of us are cycling. Whether you've swapped your car for your bike on your daily commute or you've been inspired by Bradley Wiggins to start pedaling at the weekend, you need somewhere safe to stow your wheels.

If you have a garden, a bike shed really is worth investing in, since these keep cycles out of sight, as well as locked up - something that just gives you an extra level of protection against thieves. There are several types of bike shed on the market but, personally, I think models with double doors are best, as these make it a lot easier to get bikes in and out. However, there are smaller options with a single door that are great for small gardens.

Whatever you choose, you need to remember to affix a sturdy lock. Preferably, pick a shed that comes with a lock already, and then add your own for additional security.
2) Storage sheds
Yes, I realize virtually all sheds could be described as storage sheds, but in this instance I'm referring to sheds specifically designed for overall garden storage. So, unlike bike sheds, they're not created to hold any one thing, while they're also not intended as a place where you can work.

Like bike sheds, these come with either single or double doors; if you're planning to store large equipment, the latter is best. You'll also need to choose between metal and wood. On the whole, wood is more aesthetically pleasing, but metal will be more secure - and a little easier on the maintenance front.

Storage sheds also often come without windows. I think it's worth opting for this kind of design, since the lack of windows means your possessions aren't on display, which can help protect you from break-ins.

3) Workshops
Next on my list are workshops. If you like tinkering with your car or tackling other big projects, workshops are the ideal place in which to do so. Obviously, the key thing to look for in a building like this is size - a lot of garden workshops are as big as 10 ft x 12 ft.

Not all of them come with windows, so you'll need to think about adding some artificial lighting to the space if that's the case with your chosen design. However, there are models that do come with windows, and personally I think the natural light is an advantage in any workshop.

4) Multipurpose garden sheds
By multipurpose garden shed, I'm referring to the kinds of sheds that you could easily use for a lot of different things. These are typically reasonably roomy, have a few windows and are made of wood. Yes, you could use them just for storage, but they can also act as a great place for you to carry out little gardening tasks (like potting plants) away from the cold, or even to use as something like a home office. You could consider opting for duramax building products as a choice, to check out for versatile sheds with durable designs which can be suited for various uses.

These come in a huge range of shapes and sizes - check out the Waltons website for examples - so they're equally as versatile in terms of the kinds of gardens they're suitable for. If you have a small backyard, for instance, I'd recommend getting a corner shed, since these can be tucked away in a corner, thereby making the most efficient use of the space you have available.

The Wonders of Cycling.

While return to onsite work and easing of restrictions provide some semblance of post-pandemic normalcy, most still remain hypervigilant because of the sudden rise of cases. This means it is still important to not let down your guard, observe health and safety protocols, and make sure your immune system is in top shape through proper diet and exercise.

One of the activities many started during the pandemic is cycling, encouraging people to get out of the house for fresh air and a change of environment. It is easy enough to do and perfect for those who just want to do it leisurely, and equally perfect for those looking for a higher intensity cardio workout.

It’s also proven to have many benefits which contribute to improving one’s mental and physical wellbeing.

Cycling increases endurance and improves cardiovascular health on and off the bike.
Biking for at least 30 minutes a day improves overall cardiovascular health and muscular endurance, research says. The key to building endurance is consistency--it allows you to increase your distance and level of intensity over time. With practice, you’ll soon notice you can pedal your way to longer and more challenging rides without feeling too tired.

Cycling is beginner-friendly.
The good thing about cycling is that it’s easy to learn. With basic skills and little effort, you can enjoy casual spins around your neighborhood. Pace yourself depending on what your body can handle and slowly adjust your mileage and intensity. What's more, cycling is a low-impact exercise suited for all ages!

Cycling improves your balance, posture and coordination.
The first step in learning how to bike is finding your balance and figuring out how to stabilize your body. If you’re a beginner, don't be too hard on yourself! It may take a bit of time to get the hang of things, but with regular practice, you'll see significant improvement in your balance, posture, and coordination.

Cycling supports weight loss.
With limited opportunities to exercise in the last two years, you likely have gained a few unwanted pounds. Luckily, cycling helps you lose weight and build muscle in a safe way. It allows you to get your heart rate up with less wear and tear on your knees, ankles, and other joints. To maximize your calories burned, try to increase the intensity or duration of your bike workout.

Cycling boosts mental health and brain power.
It's tested and proven--cycling is one of the best ways to battle brain fog. Aside from lessening feelings of depression, anxiety, and stress, it also boosts brainpower leading to better focus and concentration. Plus, you get higher energy levels within the day because of your increased stamina!

Cycling helps you feel good.
Similar to runners, cyclists also get a “cycling high” and science has proven that it’s for real! After a ride, cyclists experience a spike in neuro-chemicals such as serotonin, dopamine and endorphins—otherwise known as happy hormones. At the same time, cycling is a great way to spend quality time with the family.

Fashion Pulse | Complete the Motorcyle Look.

There is nothing better than riding on a motorcycle on the open road. Whether you have been riding for your entire life or bought your first motorcycle as a retirement gift for yourself, you want to create the right look for yourself whenever you are on your bike.

While it is assumed that all bikers like to wear leather and cowboy boots, that isn't the case for all riders. For many riders, they like to wear something comfortable and warm while they are on the open road. Regardless of how warm it is when you get on the bike, the breeze that you will experience while riding may cause the air to feel much colder on your skin.

In most states, it is illegal to ride a bike without a helmet. Even if it is legal to do so, you should still wear a helmet as a safety measure. By wearing a helmet, you can avoid being one of the many stories of people dying or suffering severe head injuries because they were not wearing protection.

To finish the look, you should consider a cool belt buckle that tells the world that you love to ride. The next time that you are online, you can shop for motorcycle belt buckles here from the comfort of your own home.

Are you Ready for Ironman 70.3?

What's the first thing you think of when you hear the name 'Iron Man'? I bet the image of Robert Downey, Jr. clad in a battle suit would be your answer. For sports enthusiasts, however, 'Iron Man' means more than just Tony Starks' alter ego.

Ironman is an international triathlon competition that takes place in over 30 countries around the world. This event offers a unique racing opportunity to old and aspiring triathletes as it challenges them to stand out and be their best in three major endurance sports – swimming, biking, and running.

Here in the Philippines, we have the Ironman 70.3, a race series that has a shorter course. Also known as 'Half-Ironman', the race consists of a 1.9 km-swim, a 90-km bike, and a 21-km run. As with the Ironman series, it consists of a number of qualifying races at various locations worldwide, culminating in a world championship race with athletes drawn largely from top finishers in the qualifying events.
Are you ready for Ironman 70.3?
This year, Ironman 70.3 Philippines will take place in Mactan, Cebu on August 3, 2014 with about 2,500 participants from various parts of the country and abroad. And just like in the previous years, Globe Telecom is once again the official technology partner of the said event.

Globe, a strong supporter of Ironman 70.3 Philippines since it was introduced locally in 2009, will provide WiFi connectivity, laptops, Tattoo sticks, and cash support to the game to ensure that organizers, athletes, and spectators can have a wonderful digital experience which they can share with the rest of the world.

Twelve of the participants belong to the Globe Triathlon Team which regularly competes in Ironman 70.3 Philippines since it started six years ago. Team Globe expects to better their personal best in the local premier event.
The Globe Triathlon team prepares for the sixth staging of Ironman 70.3 Philippines.
“With the continued growth of the sport, we are seeing tough competition from veterans and newbies alike. But through the support from Human Relations as well as from various groups in Globe such as the Prepaid and Postpaid teams and the International Business Group, our employee athletes pose to give a good showing as they toe the line with other multisport enthusiasts,” said Team Captain Elmer Santiago.

This year’s event promises improvements on the swim course as well as transition areas to accommodate the larger field. The slight change on the bike route presents a new challenge while the ever scorching run course will further test the athletes’ stamina.

Stop renting, start owning now! | 5 things to consider before moving to your own home.

Many Filipino families start renting a space before moving into a more permanent address, thinking that this is the most cost-effective way. However, in many instances, investing in a home is actually more economical in the long run. Instead of having your hard-earned money going to rent, it is much better to invest in a real estate property, the value of which rises year after year as your family grows. More importantly, your home would be in your name.

“Moving to a home of your own is a big step for every family. A lot has to be considered from location to financing among others. This is why we, at RLC Residences, commit to providing home solutions that are dedicated to addressing the urgent and long-term needs of a modern Filipino family,” said RLC Residences Marketing Head Karen Cesario.

RLC Residences has rounded up a list of things to consider when making the shift from renting to moving to your own home:

RLC Residences.

1. Location
Most of the time, people rent because they want more affordable access to the city where offices, schools, malls, hospitals, and other essential establishments are located. Amid the new normal, being able to walk or bike to the places you need to go to is now also a main consideration. Most of these qualities are available on properties situated in key locations such as RLC Residences’ The Trion Towers in Taguig, The Radiance Manila Bay in Pasay, and The Magnolia Residences in Quezon City.

2. Availability
Availability of the unit is crucial for current renters, which is also an advantage RFO units offer. Once paperwork and requirements are complete, you can move in immediately and settle into your own home. So if you’re ready to shift from renting to owning your place that you want to use right away, check out available one to three-bedroom flats in The Trion Towers, studio to two-bedroom homes at The Radiance Manila Bay, and one-bedroom RFO units at The Magnolia Residences.

3. Amenities
Amenities are one of the things that hook buyers into investing in a home. And rightly so. With people spending more time at home, it’s important to be able to use the gym, the pool, or function rooms when the need arises or at the homeowners’ most convenient time. With RFO units, these amenities are ready to use upon move-in. No waiting required. Plus, there’s no need to spend more on memberships outside because you can use these amenities for a minimal fee or none at all.

For example, at The Trion Towers, you can use its 32 wellness and recreational amenities such as the outdoor and indoor pools, the kiddie play areas, gym and yoga, and pilates rooms. At The Radiance Manila Bay, its outdoor pool area is ready for you should you need to unwind, while its videoke room and private theater are bookable for some family bonding. On the other hand, The Magnolia Residences’ amenities such as lounge areas, yoga rooms, function halls, and outdoor pool and play areas are also ready to use once you move in to your home.

4. Security
Beyond the actual unit, homeowners must also think about how the property is protected. More importantly, how your family is safe and secure within the walls of your home. RLC Residences’ RFO properties, for example, have CCTV cameras installed around the premises. These are complemented with a team of security guards–on duty 24/7–who man the gates and roam the premises for maximum protection. Having a friendly and smiling face at the front desk, ready to be of assistance to homeowners, is also a big plus.

Knowing that your loved ones live in a safe neighborhood with people and technology looking out for them results in peace of mind and a sense of security.

5. Investment
Buying a home is probably the biggest purchase one can make in a lifetime. This is why it’s all the more important to find one that is worth your hard-earned money. What’s good with RFO properties is that you can literally check every inch of the unit before making the purchase, instead of basing a purchase off a model unit.

Additionally, promos and discounts are every homebuyer’s friend. For its RFO properties, RLC Residences gives a 10% discount on all units of The Trion Towers and The Magnolia Residences, while future homeowners can enjoy as much as 30% markdown on selected units in The Radiance Manila Bay.

“Moving into a home you can finally call your own after all the hustle and hard work is a milestone like no other. We are truly grateful here at RLC Residences that we get to help in realizing that dream,” shared Cesario.

Bikers retrace the road to freedom for National Heroes Day.

Bikers from Bataan, Pampanga, Tarlac and nearby provinces pedaled along the route traversed by the country’s heroes in a fun ride for a cause dubbed as the “Ride for Valor.”

The “Ride for Valor”, a non-competitive 160 kilometers long bike ride, raised funds to save our heroes’ historical markers so that we may remember their sacrifice. The funds will be turned over to the Filipino-American Memorial Endowment (FAME) a non-government organization that maintains the kilometer markers of the Bataan Death March from Mariveles, Bataan to Capas, Tarlac.

In the past, Bataan Death March markers had been destroyed, uprooted, and neglected due to drainage and other road projects. Ten (10) Death March historical markers in Mariveles, and four (4) in Limay, Bataan have to be relocated soon due to road widening and other repairs.

The Death March markers serve as a reminder of the route taken by Filipino soldiers who defended the country against Japanese forces during World War II some 80 years ago. About 10,000 brave soldiers died along the route; many of the bodies were never identified or recovered.

The ride is part of the 30th anniversary of the Philippine Veterans Bank (PVB). PVB is a commercial bank owned by World War II veterans and their families. As part of its charter, PVB allocates 20% of its annual net income for the benefit of its shareholders.

Around 80,000 Filipino and American soldiers and prisoners of war were forced by the Japanese military to march 69 miles from Bataan to Tarlac during World War II. Only some 54,000 persons reached the camp, and around 20,000 died due to starvation, dehydration, diseases, and the brutality of Japanese captors.

Seoul Searching | What to Do in Seoul During Chuseok.

Chuseok 추석 is one of the biggest and most-awaited holidays in South Korea. Also known as the mid-autumn / harvest festival, Chuseok is the equivalent of Thanksgiving Day in America and is usually celebrated for three days. However, this year's Chuseok holiday will be observed for four days - from  Thursday (September 12) all the way 'til Sunday (September 15).

Chuseok is one of the few times of the year when Koreans take time off from work, travel to their respective hometowns to spend time with their families, and hold memorial services for their ancestors and deceased loved ones. Many business establishments will close down in observance of the holiday, so expect Seoul to be a bit more tranquil and peaceful during this time. However, there will still be a handful of places to visit and lots of things to do for the expats and tourists who will be coming to Korea during the Chuseok holiday.

Visit a heritage site.
Korea is world-renowned for their cultural heritage sites, and a great number of them can be found in the Seoul metropolis.

One of the more popular heritage sites is Jongmyo Shrine, the royal shrine which houses the 'spirit tablets' of the deceased kings and queens of the Joseon Dynasty. On regular days, visiting Jongmyo Shrine would require a reservation. But on Chuseok, the shrine will be open to the public, with free admission at that.

Ancestral rituals will be held at the shrine during the holiday, and visitors can get the chance to witness these first-hand.

Tour the Grand Palaces of Seoul.
Like Jongmyo Shrine, the Grand Palaces of Seoul will remain open during the Chuseok holiday, free of charge. However, you have to pay the regular rates should you wish to visit the Huwon (Secret Garden) in Changdeokgung or join the nighttime tour of Gyeongbokgung.
Changing of the guards at Deoksugung Palace.
Plenty of cultural experience programs await visitors during the Chuseok holiday. Musical performances and a tasting of royal tea and snacks will be held at Gyeongbokgung, while traditional mask dances and tightrope walking will be done at Changdeokgung. Musical performances will also take place at Changgyeonggung. Deoksugung, on the other hand, will present a re-creation of the welcoming ceremony for foreign envoys by Emperor Gojong of the Joseon era (1392-1910).

Get a great view of the city.
Standing 555 meters tall with 123 floors is the Lotte World Tower - the tallest building in Korea and the fifth tallest building in the world. This majestic tower houses galleries, cafés, and a luxury hotel, in addition to a skywalk and an observation deck.
Come on up to Seoul Sky!

Going all the way up to Seoul Sky is one of the best ways to get a clear, breathtaking view of the city. The cityscape becomes even more majestic by sundown, with the glittering city lights and all.

Check out a non-verbal performance.
Spice up your holiday by going to a cultural/musical performance. It doesn't matter if you're well-versed with Hangeul or not as these shows are non-verbal, and will only require tickets, your enthusiasm, and your attention.

If you're a martial arts enthusiast like me, you'll definitely enjoy 'Jump' an award-winning performance packed with humor, taekwondo, and other forms of martial arts. Since 2003, the show runs everyday at Myeongbo Art Hall in Jung District, Seoul

Another noteworthy non-verbal performance is 'Cooking Nanta', which runs everyday at Myeongdong Nanta Theatre and Hongdae Nanta Theatre. This show incorporates traditional percussion and humor , and has long been a popular staple since 1997.

Enjoy the great outdoors.
Because most of the locals leave the city to travel to their hometowns during Chuseok, Seoul becomes less crowded and blissfully empty. This makes hiking trips more enjoyable and less stressful, and cycling routes become easier to navigate. Go on a bike ride along Han River, take a stroll at Seoul Forest, or if you're traveling with kids, take them to Seoul Grand Park for the Seoul Zoo Korean Thanksgiving Festival.

Chuseok jal bo nae sae yo! Have a wonderful Chuseok!
Here's hoping that you'll have many things to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. Enjoy the holidays!
