Interesting Facts about Shoes.

The fact that the first footwear originated about four millennia ago is not too astonishing. People have evolved enough to know that constant barefoot walking bothers them. Still, being shoeless has its advantages, which you can learn more about at this link.

Footwear has played an important role throughout history, and a good pair of shoes has also been a status symbol. Its purpose is to provide comfort and protection against cold and injuries. For many years, shoes were a status symbol, and not everyone could wear them.

Today, the purchase of sneakers or sandals is common, but it requires attention. Proper footwear is not only comfortable but also preserves health. So shoes have become a necessity. Here are a few facts about their evolution and statistics that will entertain you.

As seen on Red Shoes (2021).

Sizing Started Two Centuries Ago
Britain was the first country to devise a footwear sizing system, with King Edward's announcement that barleycorn is an etalon. Small feet were once a symbol of beauty, and anything larger than corn was considered ugly. However, a real measuring system with standardized quantities was invented only at the end of the 19th century in the USA. And you can only imagine how uncomfortable it was to wear the same shoes on both feet since the left and right shoes were designed only in the mid 19th century.

Men Wore Heels First
Men wearing heels is not a common sight today. But once upon a time, that was the only acceptable way. In the 10th century, the Mongols made something like heeled boots. They were intended for horsemen to keep their feet in the stirrups while riding. Since only rich people owned horses, heels soon became a sign of wealth and high social status.

This fashion spread to Europe, so British and French aristocrats enjoyed wearing heels at all times. In a way, these accessories made up for the lack of height. Women started wearing high heels much later, as showing their feet was considered rude. You can visit https://divishoes.ai/ to check out some great models for nowadays ladies.

Another curiosity is related to men, and heels also apply to France. One of the many medieval rulers issued a decree for aristocrats to wear shoes with bells and long toes. Their length signified noble origin and title, and they were something of a status symbol, though they looked ridiculous.

Spy Footwear – Sneakers
Sneakers are definitely among the most beloved and popular footwear, and with good reason. They are comfortable, practical, and easy to fit. It's simply unbelievable how people lived without them. But the fact is that they did live like that, since the first real sneakers were designed at the end of the 19th century.

Sneaker-like footwear began to be produced several decades earlier. But it only got its true purpose when shoemakers added a flexible, rubber sole to it. This footwear was so light and silent that the creators named it sneakers because the footwear was perfect for sneaking and spying. Nike created the first models in 1916, Converse released All-Stars a year after, and Addidas appeared at Olympics before WWII. And the rest is history.

Psychology Explains Shoe Obsession
Almost every woman is missing just one pair of perfect shoes, although dozens of them collect dust in the closet. Among them are probably some never worn pairs. Not all women are obsessed with footwear, but they certainly love it.

In psychology, there's a syndrome that explains the obsession with collecting things, including excessive buying of shoes. Constant motivation for compulsive shopping is a diagnosed psychological disorder.

True, a good pair of shoes is the cherry on the cake of every outfit. But you should buy them on purpose, not just because they are cute or on sale. But, you might find it interesting to know that nearly half of all women have been injured by heels at some point in their lives.

When you have a good outfit, good shoes are the ones that will make a statement on it. They are expected to be beautiful, attractive, and comfortable, which many different models provide. These accessories have evolved throughout history and become an indispensable part of our lives.

Seoul Searching | Highlights of my Spring/Summer 2018 Trip.

I've finally unpacked everything from my luggage, sorted out my K-beauty haul, and transferred more than a thousand photos from my phone to my hard drive. It's been two weeks since we returned to the Philippines and now I can finally say that we've settled back in!

That being said, it's back to the daily grind for me, and I'm just about ready to blog about all of the places that we've been to and all the food that we had in this year's Seoul Searching trip. But first, let me share with you some snippets of our Korean adventure:

Meeting Edward Avila... and sitting next to him on the plane!
K-beauty vlogger Edward Avila was in Manila last May for a Meet and Greet organized by Club Clio Philippines. The event was scheduled the day before our flight to Korea, making it impossible for me to attend much as I wanted to. As I watched live videos of the event on Clio's Instagram, I was thinking that maybe, just maybe, I could chance upon Edward at the airport if he happens to be flying back to Korea on the same day that we were.

I got more than I wished for because lo and behold, as I was fastening Yue's seatbelt, a guy with silver purple ombre hair peeking out of his black baseball cap took the seat beside mine on the plane. I knew right then and there who he was.
Flying all the way to Incheon with THE Edward Avila.
AirAsia Premium Flex seats are the best seats in the house!
"Edward?" I asked, stifling the urge to scream.
"Yes?" he replied.
And I was like, "Ohmigod ohmigod ohmigod, it's really you!"
And then I started gushing about how sad I was that I couldn't make it to his event and how lucky I am to actually be flying all the way to Incheon with one of my favorite vloggers! Edward was very friendly and congenial, and we chatted for the most part of the flight - well, at least during the times when we were both awake. We even took photos together, even if I look like I haven't slept for a week, haha!

Catching-up with friends.
My childhood friend Ela and her partner Maan were in Korea for a few days, and I made it a point to meet up with them - because reunions are more fun in Korea, lol.
Samgyeopsal with Ela and Maan.
I went to Hongdae where the girls were staying, and we had a hearty meal of samgyeopsal at one of the local restaurants in the area, capped off with the best churros in the world for dessert.
Customary photo with Brown, this time in Hongdae!
We also did a bit of shopping - well, more like pimple patch hunting since Ela wanted to try those popular pimple patches. As such, we went searching for the ALand branch in Hongdae, because I know for a fact that COSRx products are sold in ALand stores. Ela loved the COSRx Pimple Patch so much that she regrets not buying more even when I told her to, lol.

Bonding with family.
Despite their busy schedule, Kuya JR (my husband's cousin) and his wife Youngsook unni took the time to spend the day with us, one fine Sunday in June. We had barbecue and soju at our favorite buffet restaurant, Meat-ing, as a celebration of sorts - post-anniversary celebration for us, and advance birthday celebration for Youngsook unni.
The boys. :)
Chill Sunday with Kuya JR and Youngsook unni.
Then we enjoyed the Seoul sunshine by exploring Kondae Rodeo, shopping for sneakers, and having coffee at Holly's.

Celebrating our tenth wedding anniversary.
Would you believe that for the past nine years, the husband and I have never celebrated our anniversary together? This is the main reason why I wanted to be in Korea in June - so that we can finally celebrate our anniversary together, in one country, under one roof. It's our tenth year of marriage, after all, and our fifteenth year as a couple.
Mocha Cream Cake from Paris Baguette.
Our anniversary fell on a weekday so we only had a simple celebration at home with some pasta (which I cooked), a bit of wine, and a lovely cream cake that the husband bought at the nearby Paris Baguette. But on the Sunday a few days ahead of our anniversary, we did celebrate the occasion by hearing mass at Hyehwa Catholic Church and having lunch at Yoogane - because no trip to Korea would be complete without enjoying my all-time favorite dak galbi.

Celebrating Father's Day.
Similarly, this was our first time to celebrate Father's Day together. I wanted this day to be extra special for the husband so I went the extra mile to get him the Curry 5 sneakers in the colorway that he wanted.
Shopping for sneakers at the Under Armour flagship store in Itaewon.
My boys who love 'sole searching'. :)
Many thanks to the staff of Under Armour Garosugil and Under Armour Itaewon for the excellent customer service! You guys are daebak(You can read the full story on this Instagram post.)

Feeling the football fever.
It sure felt different to watch the World Cup in a country that's actually playing in the World Cup, and I was so glad to still be in Korea during their first two group stage matches. The entire country was in a very festive mood during that time, especially in the evenings when cheering parties were held in open spaces such as Gwanghwamun Square, City Hall, and the COEX Convention Center.

Although it was sad that Korea's World Cup dreams ended in the group stage, they did bag the honor of being the only Asian country to beat Germany, champions of the 2014 World Cup.

As for me, Korea bags the honor of being the country that I have traveled to the most (five times in total), and I will never grow tired of visiting this country again and again. If only we could live here permanently, I would pack my bags and go even at a moment's notice!

Seoul Searching | Hyundai City Outlets.

We visited Hyundai City Outlets last winter upon the recommendation of my Korean friend, Bong Sun unni, who owns the Filipino store in our neighborhood. Knowing my penchant for sneakers, she told me to drop by 'this new mall in Dongdaemun' where there's a crazy sale on shoes. And so off to Dongdaemun we did, with hopes of finding a pair of Jordan 11 Space Jam in my size.

Schuler Shoes | Comfort Comes First.

Heels or sneakers?
If you were to ask me, I'd choose the latter any given day. You see, I'm a jeans and T-shirt girl - always have been and always will be. Sure, there are very rare times when you'd see me wear skirts and dresses partnered with pumps or wedges. But on most days, you'd find me clad in tees or polo shirts, denims or cargo pants, with Brazilian flipflops or sneakers to boot.

As a mom who's always on-the-go - running around town with the little man in tow, doing errands and such - I need to be dressed as comfortably as possible, without looking frumpy at the very least. And as far as my feet are concerned, I'd rather wear comfortable shoes for walking.
New Balance 870 Running V2.
For people like me, Schuler Shoes is a shopping haven. A family-owned business located West of Mississippi, Schuler Shoes has been in the market since 1889. And for the past 120 years, they have been providing fashionable yet comfortable footwear for men, women, and children.

To date, they have eight outlets across Minnesota. Their official website comes with an online store, thereby making shoe shopping easier and more convenient for people who live outside the Minnesota area. Brands such as New Balance, Birkenstock, Rockport, Teva, Merrell are available at Schuler Shoes, along with foot care and shoe care products. Shipping options include FedEx and the US Postal Service, with lead time of one to four days for deliveries. Product returns and exchanges are allowed, provided that the product/s are sent back within 30 days.

As for payment options, Visa, MasterCard, and American Express cards are welcome. Paypal and Google Wallet payments are accepted as well.

Fashion Pulse | Style and Comfort with Cargo Pants.

When it comes to skirts and dresses, frilly tops and floral blouses, pumps and high-heeled shoes, I'm not the person to ask. Because really, I'm a no-fuss, comfort-over-style jeans and T-shirt kinda-girl, and my fashion sense revolves mostly around statement tees (think David and Goliath), jeans and denims (think Levi's and Dickies), Onitsuka Tigers, and Havaianas. If you ask me fashion-related questions about clothes (or shoes) that fall under the said categories, and I'll be more than willing and confident to answer.

Take for example this Relaxed Cargo Pant from Dickies - easily one of the most comfortable pair of cargo pants for women I know. With a straight cut silhouette and relaxed fit, this cargo pant is as stylish as it is utilitarian. Loose but not baggy, this pair can be worn for casual Fridays at work, or on weekends when you go strolling at the park or for hanging out at the mall.
Made with 100% cotton, this cargo pant comes with a multitude of pockets - deep, roomy side pockets, back flat pockets with snap closures, and bellowed cargo pockets with hook and loop closures. Women who love to put stuff in their pockets - say a handphone, car keys, a lipbalm, or perhaps even a small notebook - will love the space these pants have.

Pair it with a dress shirt and flats for a stylish vibe, or a graphic tee and sneakers for a laidback look.
