thanksgiving inspiration

Its hard to believe that tomorrow is Thanksgiving. With it being a week later this year and now just under a month away from Christmas, it seems that more than usual the holiday is not getting its due. I have to admit I have been really struggling not to put up Christmas decorations or listen to holiday tunes but I hold firm (at least for one more day) that Thanksgiving should be probably honored in all its gluttonous glory. To help highlight tomorrow's holiday of gratitude and perhaps reel back some of those already skipped ahead to Christmas, I have put together a fun mix of links to get everyone in the Thanksgiving spirit.

4 ted talks to make you thankful this thanksgiving

We will be getting in the car tomorrow evening to drive to Chicago for the Thanksgiving holiday. The trip is roughly 4.5 hours from our house and we always pass some of the time listening to This American Life episodes. We haven't listened to that many TED talks but tomorrow I will be adding this playlist from TED all about thankfulness. The playlist features four talks. The first by Louis Schwartzberg is entitled Nature.Beauty.Gratiitude, the second by Laura Trice is all about remembering to say thank you, the third by Krista Tippett is called Reconnecting with Compassion and lastly the story of Ed Gavagan who conveys his thanks to the surgeons that saved his life after he was stabbed on a NYC street. Like I said I haven't listened to any of them yet but I thought I would share so that fellow travelers could enjoy as well. 

saint louis craigslist finds part 2

I think all the Christmas shopping ads have started to get to me. Or maybe its that I know we will have lots of visitors at our house over the course of the next month and I want the house to look at nice as we can make it. Either way I have been dreaming of home purchases. So to curb my appetite here are a few Saint Louis Craigslist finds that someone else should buy so that I don't feel the need to! Plus its Craigslist so its not like real retail shopping....

maurice burke arkana safari sling chairs via Craigslist and Amber Interiors

I am in love with these safari chairs and if they were in chestnut leather I would definitely buy them. They are classic and can work with almost any style. The downside is that they could be expensive as the listing does not provide a price. 

crystal prism chandelier via Craigslist and House Beautiful

You have to have some imagination for this chandelier and unfortunately I couldn't find an exact installation image. However, this very inexpensive chandelier is in the style of or could even be a Venini. If it is a Venini these sort of chandeliers go for hundreds if not thousands of dollars. 

Hans Wegner folding rope chair via Craigslist and REMODELISTA

The Hans Wegner folding rope chair is on my "collectible pieces of furniture to own one day" list. I love the texture of the rope and the chair's easy elegance. 

white lamps via Craigslist and Architectural Digest

This pair of white lamps would be a really good buy. They would look great with new shades on nightstands or on a large console. If I didn't already have white lamps beside my bed I would probably buy them.
