Although both games of the 13th District Tournament were lopsided, tonight’s girl-boy doubleheader has a chance of being close in both games. The tournament is being played at Franklin-Simpson, beginning with the girls game at 6.

The Logan County Lady Cougars and Todd Central Lady Rebels have split decisions this year. Franklin has beaten the Russellville Panthers twice, but by an average of 9.5 points.

Coach Dedra Adler’s Lady Cougars won easily at Todd 52-28, but the Lady Rebels won the second meeting 50-44 on Feb. 7.

In the Logan win, Ta’kyiah Mason and Brenley Adler each scored 18 points and Reese Wetton 8. Kyla Bilyeu dominated the boards with 12 rebounds. With Mason hitting all 4 of her free throw attempts and Addison Holloway going 3 of 4, the Lady Cougars shot 63.2 percent at the foul line. In the home loss, Mason scored 17 rebounds, Adler 10 and Wetton 9. Once again, Bilyeu pulled down 12 boards.

Coach Nick Suttle’s Lady Rebels were led in scoring in that first game by Alexis Taylor and Daymea Garrett with 9 points each. JaMya Key and Taylor each had 7 rebounds. Todd didn’t shoot well. The Lady Rebels managed just 4 of 31 from two-point range and 8 of 18 at the line. In the road win, Taylor scored 21, Kay 17 and Jordyn Shemwell 9. Kathryn Ballard led in rebounding with 6. Todd connected on 8 of 16 three-point tries and went 14 of 22 at the line.

The teams tied for second in district standings, but the Lady Rebels (14-12) are a 2.3-point favorite over the Lady Cougars (15-14) in the Kentucky High School Athletic Association’s RPI rankings.

The Russellville Panthers have lost to Franklin-Simpson twice by narrow margins. At Franklin, the Wildcats won 60-53. At RHS on Feb. 7, the final score was 57-45.

Coach Phil Todd’s Panthers were led in scoring in the first game by Noah Stovall with 18, Too Too McKeage 15 and Jamarion Gardner 12. McKeage had 10 rebounds. The Panthers were 5 of 18 from three-point range and 10 of 16 at the line. They did hit 14 of 25 from short range. McKeage scored 22 and T.K. Darden 11 in the second game. McKeage had 11 rebounds and JaCoveon Temple-Dickerson 5. Again, three-point shooting (2 of 15) and free throw accuracy (9 of 20) did the Panthers in.

For Franklin in the first game, Kam Ray and Jakai Partinger each scored 15 and Alan Johnson 9. Logan Morris was the leading rebounder with 6. The Wildcats hit 8 of 20 three-pointers and 14 of 17 free throws. Partinger scored 21, Brody McAlister 12 and Ray 11 in the second game. JahMir Brooks and McAlister each had 6 rebounds with Cole Sharer and Ray getting 5 each. The Wildcats hit 9 of 15 three-point shots with Partinger going 5 of 6.

Coach Dee Spencer’s Wildcats (9-24) is a 7-point favorite over the Panthers (6-20).

The games will be carried live over WRUS with Zack Woodall and Ben Brown calling the girls game and Will McKenzie and Lucas Celsor the boys contest.
