Logan Youth Football signups underway

If you haven’t signed up for the 2025 Logan County Youth Football season, it’s not too late, Please use the link below to get your kids signed up today! The season is right around the corner and we can’t wait to get started. For a couple more weeks, the plan is to have a link that can be found on the Logan County Youth Football page live. If you have questions on whether you signed up, please reach out and league officials can check the spreadsheet and let you know. Once signups are over, the coach will be reaching out to let you know about the practice schedule.

Panther basketball hosting summer games Tuesday

Summer basketball practices and games are beginning for school teams. Russellville High School will host a number of teams Tuesday. The RHS Varsity, which now features Trey Tinsley as its head coach, will be in action in Jim Young Gymnasium while Coach Bobby Cardwell's JV Panthers will play at RMS. Athletic Director/Head Softball Coach Ryan Davenport now is at the helm of the boys middle school team. This week's game times can be found in the accompanying graphic.

Races edge Ole Miss to win region

Murray State baseball has won the Oxford Regional of the NCAA National Tournament. The Racers, who had led 12-3, held on to beat homestanding Ole Miss 12-11, adding to what has become a meltdown of the SEC, which had been considered one of the best conferences ever. MSU now goes to Duke for the Super Regional. Duke's fellow ACC team, Louisville, went undefeated in winning the Nashville Region, knocking off nationally top-ranked Vanderbilt of the ACC in the process. U of L will either entertain another ACC team Miami or go to Southern Mississippi, depending on the outcome of a game now in process.

Free sports physicals to offered Monday

Med Center Health will be offering free sports physicals to students in middle school and high school throughout Southcentral Kentucky from June 2 – June 24. Physicians, nurse practitioners, athletic trainers, and support staff employed by Med Center Health, or part of the Med Center Health Partners, will be providing free sports physicals at affiliated area high schools. No matter if your child pursues a team sport, such as basketball, or enjoys going solo as an archer, receiving a sports physical helps make sure it’s safe for him or her to start a new sport or competitive season. Free sports physicals are offered to students attending schools in the Logan County and Russellville this Monday from 4-6 p.m. at the Logan County Career and Technical Center.

Entertainer Corey Farlow praises Logan crowd

Country music entertainer Corey Farlow has expressed appreciation for his reception in Russellville Friday as the leadoff performer in the Logan County Chamber of Commerce’s Concert @ Carrico series. He and his Crank It Up Cowboys band brought their Taking My Country Back tour to Carrico Park Square for a free concert. “#RussellvilleKY was on fire! Great crowd and we had a great time! Thanks for having us Logan County Chamber!” he wrote on Facebook. The next Concert @ Carrico will feature Tyrone Dunn and Kinfolk on June 27.

Logan Farmers' Market open season Saturday

The long-awaited opening session of the Logan County Farmers’ Market is only a few hours away. The market begins a five-month, twice-weekly run on Saturday, May 31. Saturday hours are 7:30 a.m.-noon from this weekend through the last Saturday in October. The market is also open Tuesdays from noon to 4 p.m. through the final Tuesday in September. Vendors are not permitted to make sales before the published starting time. Market Manager LeAnn Martin says more vendors that usual have joined in 2025. This is the 20th year that the market will be located in the pavilion behind the Logan County Extension Office on Russellville’s North Bypass.

Meguiar and Grizzlies breeze to World Series win

Neither a game story nor statistics are not yet available, but Braxton Meguiar and his Georgia Gwinnett Grizzlies were dominant in winning their second straight NAIA World Series game Monday, this time 14-0. Tennessee Wesleyan managed just six hits and never advanced a runner past second base. Second-seeded Georgia Gwinnett will face sixth-seeded Southeastern at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday back at Harris Field in Lewiston, Idaho.

RMS' Gardner places in pair of state hurdle events

Russellville Middle School eighth grader Aiden Gardner placed fourth in the 300-meter hurdles and sixth in the 100-meter hurdles in the state middle school event this weekend. Coach Mikie Benton says, “The growth this year for him has been amazing!! Can’t wait to see what the future holds!! Monster hurdler!! Shouldn’t be surprised, his momma (Chiquita Rose) was a beast, too, running through the hurdles! My school record might be in danger in the next four years.”

Demyiah Young of RMS wins 2 state track titles

From Coach Mikie Benton: Not only do we have a 2x Middle School State Track Champion today in the Shot Put and Discus … WE HAVE A NEW STATE RECORD HOLDER IN THE SHOT PUT!! Demyiah Allen went to state today with a purpose, coming home with 2 gold medals and a new state record!!! She made a throw of 41-11.25 to break a 21-year old state record for the middle school! The future is bright!

Lady Cougars draw Cumberland at region

After their baseball team’s 10 a.m. start at region Monday, Logan County fans can go down Russellville Road at WKU to watch their Lady Cougars in their 1 p.m. regional softball debut for 2025. Coach Gary Gettings appears to have gotten the most favorable draw available. Instead of number 1 South Warren (31-3) or number 5 Warren East (23-11 , the 13th District runner-up Lady Cougars will play 16th District champ Cumberland County, which has the 8th best RPI. The 12th rated Lady Cougars (10-19) will meet CCHS (16-12) at 1 p.m. on the WKU softball field. They are in the same bracket with Greenwood vs. East.

Cougars to open region against #1 South Warren

The Logan County Cougars will literally open the Fourth Region Baseball Tournament Memorial Day at 10 a.m. against the region’s top-ranked teams, South Warren (27-8). Coach Ethan Meguiar’s teams spend almost every Monday playing at WKU, and this is one of their most challenging draws ever, considering the Cougars are a district champion. South became a runner-up this week by losing to number two Greenwood in the 14th District finals. Franklin-Simpson, which became runner-up to the Cougars in the 13th District finals, also got a tough draw, Greenwood, at 6:15. Number six Logan (22-12) is in the Bracket with Barren County and Monroe County.

Meguiar helps Gwinnett win World Series opener

Logan County’s Braxton Meguiar scored three times and went 2-for-2 at the plate to help Georgia Gwinnett win its NAiA World Series opener Friday 11-1 over the University of British Columbia. Coach Jeremy Sheetinger’s Grizzlies are now scheduled to face No. 3 seed Tennessee Wesleyan University in a winner's bracket game on Monday, May 26, starting at 3 p.m. Pacific time.

Braxton Meguiar beginning his fourth NAIA World Series

With Logan County’s Braxton Meguiar leading the way, the Georgia Gwinnett College baseball team opens its seventh straight trip to the Avista NAIA World Series, and against the University of British Columbia (Canada) Friday night at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho. A second-team All-American last year and a preseason first teamer this year, Meguiar is hitting at a .425 clip and started all 58 games. He leads the team with 83 runs scored and has registered 40 steals. The second baseman has scored a NAIA career record 329 runs, while appearing in a school record 238 games and making a program best 236 starts.

Signing day for Hinton, Robey and Bunce at LCHS Friday

Three more Logan County High School student-athletes will be featured in a college signing ceremony in the Main Gym Friday morning at 9:25. Athletic Director Todd Adler says they are Lilly Robey on the University of Kentucky cheerleading team, Brady Hinton on the Olney Center Junior College baseball team in Illinois, and Rhiley Bunce on the Brescia University women’s track team. Lady Cougar coach Dedra Adler announced this week that center Kyla Bilyeu will play basketball for Brescia, but there has not been a public announcement that she will be included in tomorrow’s ceremony.

Logan & F-S split district tournament titles

Both 13th District diamond tournament finals matched teams representing Logan County and Franklin-Simpson Wednesday. They each won a championship. After completing an 11-1 win over Russellville, Coach Ethan Meguiar’s Cougars beat Coach Matthew Wilhite’s F-S team 4-2 for the baseball championship. Meanwhile, Coach Gary Gettings’ Lady Cougars edged Russellville 3-0 in the softball semifinals but lost to Coach Todd Caudill’s Lady Wildcats 7-2 in the finals. All four teams advance to next week’s regionals. The LoJo will have more details and stats from the games soon.

LCHS commencement Thursday, all Logan students Friday

The Logan County High School senior class’ commencement will be held Thursday, May 22, at 7 p.m. at Western Kentucky University, beginning at 7 p.m. The ceremony will be livestreamed. The last day for Logan County students is Friday, May 23. Elementary/middle schools will dismiss at 1 p.m., and LCHS will dismiss at 12:40.

Cougars advance past RHS in district baseball play

It took three days, but the Logan County Cougars advanced to the finals of the 13th District Tournament and to the Fourth Region Tournament Wednesday. Rain Monday and Tuesday evenings delayed completion of the game. Freshman Landon Gregory pitched the complete 11-1 win over Russellville, giving up three hits and five walks while striking out eight Panthers. Tripp Walington tripled and doubled to lead the Cougar offense. Getting singles were Noah Mosley, Drew McLellan and TySean Thomeczek. McLellan was credited with two RBIs and Mosley and Tate McLean one each. Bryar Gaddis scored three runs and Thomeczek and Mosley two each. Hunter Holloway, Brady Hinton, Thomeczek and Mosley got the only four walks RHS pitcher gave up.  Mosley and Thomeczek each stole two bases with Hinton, Gaddis and McLean swiping one each. Russellville has not yet posted individual statistics for this game.

District softball tourney to conclude today

Russellville High Athletic Director/Head Softball Coach Ryan Davenport, Assistant Coach Chris Penrod and former Lady Panther Madison Penrod were among those who worked  until about midnight Tuesday and much of the day today to get the RHS Softball Field dry enough  to be playable tonight. The plan is for the Logan County Lady Cougars to go against RHS at 5:30. Then at 7:30, the winner of that game will go into the finals against Franklin-Simpson, which edged Todd Central 4-3 Monday. Gates open at 4:30.

District baseball tourney moved to Central

Because of heavy rain the last two nights, the 13th District Baseball Tournament has been moved from Russellville’s Kelly Russell Field to Warren Central’s artificial turf. Logan County was leading RHS 7-1 late in the game Monday when play had to stop. They will conclude that game Wednesday beginning at 4:30. The Franklin-Simpson vs. Todd Central semifinal will start at 5:30, and the championship game is expected to start at 7:30.

Lewisburg commencement moved to tonight

Because of Tuesday night’s storms, Lewisburg School’s 8th Grade Commencement has been moved to 6 p.m. today. As a result, Lewisburg Volleyball open gym has been canceled today.

Logan Schools to monitor weather conditions Tuesday

From Logan County Schools Superintendent Dr. Dan Costellow: We’re keeping a close eye on tomorrow's weather, as there’s a chance of severe conditions around dismissal time. Our team will be in touch with local emergency management and public safety officials to help us decide if an early dismissal will be needed to keep everyone safe. If any changes are made, we’ll get the word out by 12 noon through text, email, and social media. Thanks for your patience and support as we work to make the best call for the safety of our students and staff.

Shaker Village now a Blue Star Museum

This initiative, presented by the National Endowment for the Arts and Blue Star Families is a free admission program for active military and their families now through Labor Day, Sept. 1, 2025. Cattlemen's Quarterly meeting postponed a week

The Logan County Cattlemen's Quarterly meeting that was scheduled for this Tuesday evening has been rescheduled to next week due to the threat of inclement weather. The meeting will now be held on Tuesday, May 27, at the Logan County Extension Ag Arena with the meal starting at 5:30 pm and will be in conjunction with the Youth Steer Show.

From Logan County Public Library: Don't miss out on the final Storytimes of the season this week for a Summer Celebration! There will be no storytimes next week, as we all take a big deep breath and get ready to dive into our Summer Learning Programs! Teens are making Safety Pin badges this week and catching all the Pokémon! Adults have opportunities to join our D&D group, scoot some boots at Line Dancing with Paula Silvey, and/or learn to Macrame.

Despite severe storms coming through last night, the Lewisburg Purple Martin Festival is underway today. The 5K Run/Walk has already been held. At McKinney Park, bouncies, kids’ barrel ride, vendors and food trucks are in place for an 11 a.m.-4 p.m. fun-filled session. Karaoke begins at 1, and the Sawmill Revival Band will entertain beginning at 3.

LCHS band and choir banquet and concert Friday

The Logan County High School Choir and Symphonic Band invite everyone to their annual end of the year movie concert Friday. The banquet starts at 5:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. For those who plan to eat, tickets will be sold at the door. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the main gym. There is a potential for severe storms tomorrow. If the concert is postponed, it will be at the same time next Wednesday, May 21.

Lauren Fuller earns nursing degree

Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKYCTC) honored 46 Practical Nursing students from their Glasgow Health Campus at their annual nursing pinning ceremony Wednesday, May 7, at the Cave Area Conference Center. The ceremony marks the PN student’s completion of their Nursing Diploma from the Glasgow Campus. Among them was Lauren Fuller of Logan County. Both the Glasgow and Bowling Green campuses of SKYCTC have been distinguished for their nursing education excellence, with Glasgow securing the number one position and Bowling Green ranking second in the Commonwealth.

Logan Middle Basketball Tryouts for Spring/Summer Tuesday

Tryouts for Logan County Middle School boys basketball for the spring and summer seasons will be held Tuesday, May 13, at the high school. Current fifth graders will try out from 5-6:15 p.m., current sixth graders from 6:15-7:30 and current seventh graders from 7:30-8:15. Proof of an updated physical exam is required before trying out. Registration in advanced is required by either scanning the accompanying graphic or contacting coach Jerry Epley.

Aliza Wilson a state champion and excels on the ACT

Russellville High School junior Aliza Wilson received an exceptionally high score on her Microsoft Office Specialist exam recently. With that high score, she has been named as the Kentucky State Champion and selected to compete in Certiport’s 2025 Microsoft Office Specialist U.S National Championship at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in Dallas, Texas, June 16-18. Earlier RHS had announced, "We are extremely proud to celebrate Aliza Wilson, a distinguished junior at RHS, for achieving a perfect score of 36 in both Science and Reading on the ACT!"

Adairville Auto & Tractor Show Saturday afternoon

The 2025 Adairville Auto & Tractor Show will be held in downtown Adairville this Saturday from noon-3 p.m. The Adairville-South Logan Chamber of Commerce sponsors the show to “celebrate the automobile and agriculture.”  Preregistration is not required. The entry fee is $20 for the first vehicle and $5 for each subsequent one from the same vendor. Admission is free to spectators. Vendors are welcome to set up.

Owens and McKeage to sign with Campbellsville football

A pair of Russellville High School athletes will play college football for Campbellsville University. Octavius “Too Too” McKeage will play defensive back for the Tigers, and David Owens will be playing defensive line, according to RHS coach Mikie Benton. Signing day will be May 19, beginning at 1:15 p.m., in the high school gym.

Logan Middle Girls Basketball Tryouts Thursday

Tryouts for the Spring/Summer Season for Logan County Middle School girls basketball will be held tomorrow (Thursday) from 5-6:30 p.m. in Logan County High School’s Main Gym. If’s for girls currently in the fifth and sixth grades. Dedra Adler is coach of the LCHS varsity team.

Cougar Basketball Camp planned June 18-20

The Logan County Cougar Camp will be held June 18-20. The fee is $45 per camper. Those going into grades 1-4 from 9-11 a.m. while grades 5-8 will come noon-2 p.m. Campers will get a free T-shirt. To register, scan the code on the graphic.

New RHS head coaches to be available to meet public

Russellville High School will have five new head coaches in the 2025-26 school year. Four of them have been in other roles at the school, but this will be their first varsity head coaching assignment. The public is invited to get to know them better at a reception Wednesday evening at the Tech Center on East Seventh Street between the Central Office  and Rhea Stadium. They are Jeramy Rust, who is moving from boys soccer to the new wrestling program; Cameron Kisselbaugh, who is moving up from middle school and JV to coach boys soccer; Trey Tinsley, who was an assistant coach for Cougar basketball this season and now is replacing the legendary Phil Todd; Jermaine Savage, who has been assisting the regional champion Franklin-Simpson Lady Cats but now will coach Lady Panther basketball; and former Lady Panther volleyball player Ashley Barker, who is now the head coach of that team.

Sawmill Revival to present public performances next two Saturdays

Sawmill Revival will be at The Logan County Extension Pavilion this Saturday, May 10, from 6-8 p.m. It’s a free event sponsored by our friends at The Logan County Public Library. The library will have several free musical events this summer. Sawmill Revival will be at The Purple Martin Festival in Lewisburg on May 17 from 3:30-6 p.m. At both, there will be lots of room to dance or just bring a chair and sit back and listen  Tyler R. LTC Customer Appreciation Event to be held Friday

All LTC Connect members are invited to the Customer Appreciation Event on Friday, May 9, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Those attending will get lunch, a free gift, and a chance at door prizes. Taste of Adairville offered Saturday

To raise funds for the Community-Wide Thanksgiving Dinner, a Taste of Adairville will be held this Saturday at Living Word Church Fellowship Hall from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Those attending can sample of an assortment of casserole dishes. Logan County Democratic Reorganization Convention Saturday

All registered Democrats living in Logan County are invited to attend the Logan County Democratic Reorganization Convention this Saturday at the Historic Logan County Courthouse from 10 a.m.-noon. Nominations will be made and elections held for new Democratic leadership roles in the county. Five is the magic number Wednesday when five Logan County senior student-athletes will sign to be involved in five different sports at five different universities. They are Amelia Larson in Campbellsville cross country, Ta’kyiah Mason in Vol State basketball, Aubrey Sears in University of Houston volleyball, Morgan Taylor in WKU cheerleading and Jacob White in Bellarmine football. The even begins at 9:25 a.m. in the main gym. The public is invited.
