Update: 12:41 am: President Obama is leading in the popular vote by more than ~~one~~ two million votes. The best electoral college vote forecaster in my view: Nate Silver.

The biggest sign that Romney failed to make his case, even on the economy: More than 50% of voters polled said it's not Obama's fault, he inherited it from Bush.

Update: 11:30 pm: Obama got 71% of the nation's hispanic vote and 50% of Catholic voters.

Update 10:41 pm: Obama takes Virginia. Total: 303 electoral votes for Obama, 203 or 206 for Romney.

At 9:19 pm MT, CNN called the race for President Obama.[More...]

Update: 9:38 pm: Even Fox News agrees Obama has won. It also calls Ohio for Obama. Karl Rove looks apoplectic. He's disputing Ohio, spouting numbers. Memo to Karl: Obama wins without Ohio. (Added: Karl now retracts and blames his comments on the Secretary of State's website which he said wasn't showing all the votes>. The other Fox expert says Romney won't win Ohio. Karl is embarrassed. The anchor says, "Maybe we got you a slow computer back there. Shorter Version: Karl retracts.)

Colorado went for Obama, 51% to 47%. It also passed Amendment 64 -- 53% to 47%. Adult personal possession and use of marijuana will now be legal in Colorado. Sales will be regulated and taxed.

Some doctor on Fox just offered to write prescriptions for anyone upset about Romney. The host told him, "As a lawyer, I don't think that's a good idea." What hypocrites.

So good for that. But I cannot hook into the delusion, I can't hoot and holler, the man we re-elected is a known commodity, and that commodity has shown no inclination to forcefully and courageously tackle the problems he was elected to take on. In fact, he has been pathologically incapable of it. So we are left with what? The continuing denial of a dying military empire.

Congrats, O. For the next four years, just like the last, I expect nothing from you at all, so anything genuine is gravy.

I voted for Obama yesterday, for the third time.

I hope we get through another four years without a war with Iran, although Obama's official position on the matter hardly differs from Romney's.

I appreciate that Obama has declared torture not to be official policy on his watch. By going no further, he has implicitly ratified the Republican claim that torture is just a partisan policy difference.

Would it even have cost Obama politically to have kept his promise to leave medical marijuana alone?

'Save it 'til tomorrow' reminds me of Chris Matthews saying Bush's Iraq policy shouldn't be criticized while the Iraqis were waving purple fingers, because it was 'his day'. Any day is the right day to tell hard truths.

Speaking of Bush and Iraq, he at least went to Congress for his war. Obama, like Truman before him, seems to think UN blessing suffices.

Obama currently leads in the popular vote, but only by about 100,000 votes. The country really is polarized.

I don't see any way for there to be any real bipartisan work done unless one side decides to sell-out its supporters. And, sadly, the side most likely to do that is the Democrats.

So, rejoice tonight, but prepare to fight long and hard starting tomorrow to save SS and Medicare and so many other programs from the Grand Bargain.

Yep, some states have women as both of their Senators for decades now, and Wisconsin FINALLY sends a woman to the Senate for the first time.

But heck, it's only been a dozen years since she became the first woman from Wisconsin in Congress at all.

At this rate, Wisconsin will be entering the 21st century any day now. You read it here first. Watch for it.

It seems so odd to me that these two states waited until 2012 to elect a woman to the U.S. Senate. I'd have thought they would have been trailblazers in this area. Oh well, better late than never.

And The Dairy State gets a twofer because Tammy Baldwin is also the first out lesbian elected to the Senate.

newly elected to the Senate. (Barney Frank came out only in his third term.) I wonder how many ghosts in the Senate are celebrating, not having been able to come out in the centuries before now?

Btw, re the backwardness of MA and WI when it comes to electing women, both have been the subject of many studies in women's studies that offer some answers that are intriguing, but not answers that would be welcome on this blog.

Wasn't a senator, he was a congressman.
I was so happy about Warren, and the fact that she was the first female was icing on the cake. The things I've heard from.supposedly liberal men...
But women came out en masse for her this time. We are strong enough politically to make our own changes.
