Ariel
Ariel's Day.
Ariel is a senior in high school this year, which really amazes me. She is the daughter of my cousin, who was my best friend growing up. That my cousin has a daugther about to graduate just blows my mind. She is on the ballroom dance team at her high school and has been working very hard to get on to a university team. I loved getting to shoot her and her partner dancing. They looked like they were having such a great time.
Everyone came along for the shoot so we got some pictures of Ariel's brother and sisters as well. We ended up with a great (read: unexpectedly warm) day. And they all love black and white images...so you'll find a lot here. I love black and white too, so I'm glad I get to post them. Here's to graduation, Ariel!

Sterling
wonderful gift.
Sterling arrived just before Christmas and was the perfect gift to this sweet family. After months of his mom being in the hospital and times when they hoped both mother and baby would safely make it to this side of the pregnancy Sterling is just the gift they wanted. In fact, his mom said he was going to be the only gift beneath the Christmas tree this year. I had such a fun time taking pictures of this little baby. Even after a difficult time at the doctor the day before he was so sweet.

A lot of fun.
fun times.
Over the holiday we just kept getting more and more snow. The kids loved it and were out playing in it almost everyday. We spent lots of time making cookies, playing in snow and more snow, and putting together puzzles. Having a chance to just hang out at home and play together are what make the holidays so much more fun.

Sleigh Ride
Snow and cold.
Sleigh rides have become a tradition for us. When my parents come to visit for Christmas the kids know that we'll be going sleigh riding. After getting snow for Christmas and more snow again...we knew that a sleigh ride was going to be beautiful. It had been overcast and snowing for days but the day we had planned for our fun the clouds broke and we had a gorgeous blue sky. That seems wonderful and it was nice to see the sun shining again...except it was 9 degrees.
We bundled everyone up but I have to say we totally underestimated the cold. The first time you go out in that kind of cold you forget how cold it really was the year before...and then you don't forget for the rest of the season. Even though we all had scarves and mittens and hats and blankets we had forgotten about layers and more layers and extra pairs of socks. Gracie ended up with popsicle fingers and Miriam had icicle toes. The thawing out was painful...but thank goodness for the hot chocolate! The steaming hot chocolate was a life saver. We were all grateful for the chance to warm our hands on the cups and and have the chocolate take away the chill on the inside.
Despite the cold we had a great time and the view was gorgeous. We couldn't have asked for a prettier day.
And the door on that barn...is that not the wildest looking thing? It looks like it's moving but it isn't. I loved the texture of building and the smoothness of the door. It's such an amazing contrast.
This is one of the many fun times we had over the holiday...get ready, because I have a bunch of posts coming. lol
