Rhubarb Almond Tart

Spring had a late start this year, but I think we finally made it. The farmer’s market on my way to work every Tuesday finally opened and I couldn’t resist the rosy bunches of rhubarb. In fact, I actually turned around about 50 metres after passing just to get my hands on one. I also couldn’t resist taking pictures of all the blooming things I’ve finally been seeing.

When I was younger, I used to suck on tart rhubarb stalks out of the garden or eat the crunchy stems raw dipped into sugar.

Froot Loop Cake

A while ago, after eating ice cream with cinnamon toast crunch, I had the idea of baking with cereal. Until today, I only got as far as this cereal milk white Russian. Now I’m adding this cake to our cereal repertoire.

Lavender Honey Baklava

We had a Game of Thrones Finale party last year where I tried to make snacks that corresponded to the regions of Westeros.  (Incidentally, Season 5 premiere on Sunday... excited!!!) I had meat pies for Winterfell, lemon tarts for King’s landing, and baklava for the desert lands of Essos.  I didn’t actually make the baklava then.  We bought it from Paramount, a Lebanese and middle eastern Arabic restaurant that has the best fresh pita bread and hummus.  It was so good, a mouthful of buttery, sweet, melt in your mouth pastry.

Hibiscus Panna Cotta With Raspberry Sauce

I’ve lived in Canada most of my life so I really don’t expect it to actually be spring even when the calendar says it is.  But we’ve had hints here and there; just enough to whet your appetite.  The days are longer so we don’t have to walk home in the dark anymore.  The bright sunshine makes you think it’s warmer than it is.  I even saw some buds on the trees the other day.

Lemon Cream Pie Sundae

A couple of weeks ago I posted this cold berry pie and the perfect pie crust recipe.  You may have noticed that the pie crust recipe makes two crusts, but the pie only requires one. What do you do with the extra crust?

Sparkling Lavender Cocktail

Sometimes words are hard to come by.  We use words all the time.  We talk, we text, we e-mail.  But how many times can you say you read something, hear something, and it really stays with you?  Writing is easy.  Writing something powerful, something meaningful is much more difficult.
