Four Friends' Meal At Keng Kee Restaurant, Rawang

WOKE UP WITH HEAVY EYES very early around 6am the next morning.  Couldn't get to sleep very well, maybe way pass my bedtime, or maybe different bed and environment, or perhaps it was my own "snoring" that woke me up, my room mates were telling me!  LOL... Alright, I accept the above, they are truly me.  Since we were up early, we got ready to go for our breakfast, contemplating over Kundang or Rawang noodles.... and eventually we settled for the latter.

I think it has been a number of years since we last went to Keng Kee for our meal.... at least 3 to 4 years ago.  This place is famous for the Hokkien noodles aka Tai Lok Mee or Thick noodles cooked with Yam.  Yes, only can find it here at Keng Kee in Rawang.  Another specialty is their Saito Fish Pancake and their Clams.  And we ordered the above for the four of us....
This is Keng Kee at Rawang.... pic taken in 2011...
Their specials on the wall...
The Saito Fish pancake... two different types.....
Something crispier... fried Wantons....
Ginger Clams...
One small portion of Lor Mee...
Best eaten with black vinegar....
And the Yam noodles with the Hokkien Mee...
Portions for four of us...
Not sure how much the bill is cos it was taken care by our hostess....
Thank you for the wonderful meal....
Till we meet again, Fren....

Breakfast At Kundang Jaya, Lunch At Keng Kee, Rawang

EARLY NEXT MORNING, MY FRIEND TOOK US TO KUNDANG JAYA.... Woke up late but the noodles were not sold out yet, fortunately...  The noodles here are called "Loe Shu Fun" and they are homemade too, something very different from the ones we have in Ipoh....
We ordered the soupy and the dry version and it normally comes with two meat balls...
Local meat balls not the imported ones like IKEA... hahahaa...
I like them cos Ipoh doesn't have this type in Ipoh...
I don't mind eating four or five of these meat balls....
My friend likes the chewy Loe Shu Fun but I guess I am used to eating the Ipoh-made ones...
Fast forward.... we went out for our lunch at 1.30pm cos our train was scheduled at 3.45pm...
Though we were still kinda of full, I know I wouldn't want to leave Rawang without coming here....
How could we leave without eating these fresh, yummy, tasty fish beancurd???
One regret though... we should have ordered a Large portion instead of small...
These clams were not left out too....
Lor Mee in vinegar...
Something like the ones I eat in Penang....
And their signature dish is Yam Noodles...
Practically every mouthful we could taste the yam flavour and it was just too "yammylicious!"
The portions were all small and the bill came to around RM60 with drinks...
Well, I certainly would love to come here again for a bit of everything above...
hahahaaaaa...

My Dinner In Rawang Market

Yes, I spent my weekend in Rawang... left Ipoh around 6pm and reached around 8pm... we took our dinner in Rawang market, surprisingly, the food court was still open and according to my friends, the food here was something to shout about.. LOL...

As it was already past dinner time, my stomach has been "growling" for some time already... thank goodness the crowd has already left by then and the food were served in no time...
The first dish served is called Myanmar Chicken....
From my taste buds, curry powder, sweet sour sauce with
curry leaves and lemon grass... not very spicy....
My friend loves this dish...
The "belacan sambal" (shrimp paste) is really there...
Next is the "Lam Yu Chu Yuk"
The fermented beancurd taste on the meat is very obvious...
Nicely marinated, crispy on the outside and juicy within...
I saw some Leeks being hung at the stall...
Must order... so it came out as Leeks with Taufu...
Four dishes plus one soup...
The food portion was quite big for the four of us...
This is the stall at the Rawang Market at night...
The bill for the above dishes came to around RM52 plus rice and drinks...
I think it is pretty reasonable...

Our Breakfast In Kundang New Village

Before we hit the pillows for the night, my friend told us to get up earlier the next morning... she told us that she would be taking us to a new place which she had just "discovered" not too long ago..."Great" is the answer when we heard that... LOL...

Not wanting to miss the food, we set out from Rawang around 8.30am, drove through some interesting nature land for around 20 minutes and soon we reached this place called Kundang New Village around 9am...
First picture I took when I stepped out of the car...
Where there is a crowd, there is Good Food, right?

my friend told me that mostly are local people..
KL nang don't know about this place yet.. I think..
we managed to get a table despite the crowd
and while waiting for the food to arrive, we walked some meters away
to get some "extras" ....
this is another stall... we came by to buy some fried meat balls...
such as these... perfectly made....
....crispy on the outside and soft on the inside....
goes perfectly well with the green mint chillies...
finally the food arrived...
Home made Wan Ton Noodles...
it was such a BIG bowl that it lasted me till Dinner!!
Love their "extras" too...
and the bill for 5 of us plus some "takeaways"
only cost RM24...
Thanks to my friend who took us around or Good Food...
We really had a fruitful weekend...
Having experienced this,
I will Definitely go down south more often...
For Good Company And Good Food!

Trip To Rawang On Hari Raya Haji

Since last Friday is a holiday, I made a trip to Rawang together with my girl... a time for us to "chill out" .. so they say... we went for a night stay in my friend's house and as usual, our main itinerary is the four letter word... F-O-O-D!
We reached Rawang around 11am and before we set out to 1Utama,
my friend took us for lunch at Keng Kee in Rawang...
for the famous Yam Noodles...
While waiting, the "smurf" girl played
with her new iPad...
Yam Noodles... but couldn't find any find yam pieces.... all must be "melted"
another special dish is the Lor Mee... (cooked with vinegar)
followed by their signature freshly fried fish cake...
and their beancurd skin fish paste...
I don't know exactly how much this cost
but I know it is around RM50-60 including drinks....
Expensive?
I have been here few times and each time it cost around that much..
After our lunch, we proceeded to 1Utama Mall ...
our plans there were Food, Sights and Songs...
 but.......

Village Restaurant In Rawang

I had my lunch in Rawang before proceeding to Sg Buluh. Called my fren and she suggested going to this Village Restaurant along the Rawang main road, same row with Lan Jie, the one I took last time.

According to her, Village Restaurant is popular for their Steamed Melon soup (RM30-35) which consists of dried scallops, red dates, chicken meat.... Apart from that, smoked chicken taken with their ginger sauce was a good combination. Then followed by claypot pork ribs with yam... wow, I love this dish best cos I simply love YAM!

the steamed Melon (tun toong kwa)

the dried scallop

combined with the others...

smoked chicken

claypot pork ribs with yam

smoking hot...

We ordered two more dishes, ie. paku pakis belacan and one steamed talapia... I was busy eating that I forgotten about the last two dishes... and the bill came to RM96 for 6 persons!

Lan Je In Rawang

I know I might sound "cheapskate" a bit but I think road side stalls suit me better. Some stalls serve their own specialities and as for this Kedai Makanan Lan Je, it is famous for their talapia fish. According to my rawang fren, this owner has his own fish farm and he does his own special recipe on the talapia fish.

Nothing fishy going on...

so No Fishy Smell....
its texture is very fresh
just nicely cooked
and the sauce...is.... how to say...
"overwhelming"
u can actually drink it...(really one..)

this "sotong" is also their speciality
the sauce is very "tap pik"
(very appetising)

chicken balls
something different too...

crispy fresh "yau mak"

we ordered 3 plates of steamed fish...
one surely not enough..

1, 2, 3 fishes for 5 persons...

few minutes later...
only bones were left.. lol...

the crowd...
sometimes u need to stand around first
before u can get a table...
Price : RM80 for 5 pax
