Many of my blog followers and yarn customers know that in spring of 2016, I lost my best friend to cancer.
He was the four-legged (well, three in his case… thanks to said cancer), furred kind - A tuxedo cat extraordinaire!
He was aptly named Tux (Or Sir Tuxedo Thunderpaws if you want to be formal). I’d adopted him about a decade before from a local rescue. He stole my heart the minute he was let out if his cage and stalked confidently to climb into my waiting lap with a big comforting purr.
He was two years old and a problem child from the very start. Between urinary issues, infections, diabetes, amputation and the cancer that eventually took him, we got to know our local vet team very well (he stole their hearts too.) Over the years, we spent a small fortune on him, and it was worth every penny.
He was a fantastic companion. He was full of catitude - even losing a leg at the age of nine didn’t slow him down.
His passing left a huge hole in our lives - as any one who’s been loved by a loyal pet knows. Though we’ve since adopted an adorable little ginger cat, not a day goes by that I don’t miss my handsome tuxedo boy.
It took me a while to come up with a fitting tribute to him. But in the end, a simple colourwork sock in his classic tuxedo colours seemed fitting.
These socks have an extra little detail - an embroidered paw on the bottom of the toes - a symbol of the paw prints our furred friends leave on our hearts when they go - unseen, but always there.
The socks use two different colours of Wandering Cat Yarns Barn cat. While the pattern cuff it written for just 4 inches, it can be easily made longer.
Knit these in memory of your favourite furry companion. They leave us too quickly, but having their love for that short time is worth every minute of sorrow.
