Book Loot (40)

Straight from the Department of Better Late Than Never, here's my first post of 2020: my (mostly) Book Outlet haul from . . . Black Friday 2019. Yikes!

In my defense, the end of 2019 was bonkers. On top of the holiday rush, I got a whopper of a cold just in time for Christmas. Said cold didn't care when the new year dawned and continued to linger. I finally gave in and got it checked out because the nagging cough was keeping me up at night. The best guess was allergic bronchitis, and off I went with prescriptions for a disgusting tasting liquid and an inhaler. Those finally did the trick, and I'm happy to report that I can now get through a complete sentence without needing to stop to hack until my eyes water.

Getting back on topic to books, I'd first heard about Book Outlet on Facebook, where I also saw that subscribers to their emails would receive early access to their Black Friday sale. This seemed like the perfect time to give the site a try, and ahhhhhhhh . . . . It was a real challenge not to put EVERYTHING in my cart! Once common sense was restored, I narrowed down my selections to 8, lol. (I got both The Epic Crush of Genie Lo and Sky Without Stars from Amazon.)

Bought:

The Epic Crush of Genie Lo by F.C. Yee
The Twelve Days of Dash and Lily by Rachel Cohn & David Levithan
There's Someone Inside Your House by Stephanie Perkins
American Panda by Gloria Chao
Sky Without Stars by Jessica Brody & Joanne Rendell
Eon by Alison Goodman
Eona by Alison Goodman
Clariel by Garth Nix
Goldenhand by Garth Nix
A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer

Have you read any of these? If so, I'd love to know what you thought! I hope your 2020 is off to an amazing start!

Book Loot (39)

Hello, friends! We're getting closer and closer to the end of 2019, and, the end of another decade—EEK!

For my part, it looks like I'm trying to amass as many new books as possible before 2019 ends, lol. Maggie Stiefvater's The Raven Cycle is one of my favorite series ever, so of course I HAD to get a copy of the first book in the spin-off Dreamer trilogy.

Neal Shusterman's Scythe is one of my favorite 2019 reads. I've already started Thunderhead, and I'm loving it just as much as Scythe so far!

What books have you added to your shelves recently?

Won:

The Jane Austen Society by Natalie Jenner
Miss Austen by Gill Hornby
Thanks so much to St. Martin's Press and Flatiron Books!!

Bought:

The How and the Why by Cynthia Hand
Call Down the Hawk by Maggie Stiefvater

Book Loot (38)

Yikes—it's another Book Loot post already! I've dubbed this my Pre-YALLFest Haul because I'm taking some of these to hopefully get signed at YALLFest in Charleston this weekend. :D

I'm about halfway through Neal Shusterman's Scythe, and all I can say is: why didn't I read this book, or any of Neal Shusterman's books, sooner?! It's definitely going to be one of my 2019 favorites.

What books have you added to your shelves lately?

Won:

Angel Mage by Garth Nix
Much thanks to Epic Reads!

Hello, friends! So I've been amassing books again, lol. Some of these, like The Rise of Kyoshi and Reticence, were pre-orders that I had been eagerly waiting for, and I also had a Barnes and Noble gift card that I finally put to good use.

I had to show off the absolutely stunning cover for The Ten Thousand Doors of January. It's even prettier in person!

What books have you added to your shelves lately? Have you read any of these?

Bought:

Loki: Where Mischief Lies by Mackenzi Lee
The Rise of Kyoshi by F.C. Yee
Reticence by Gail Carriger
Cruel to Be Kind: The Life and Music of Nick Lowe by Will Birch

Book Loot (36)

I don't know about you guys, but I have a hard time not tapping that 1-click button whenever the Kindle edition of a book that I really want to read goes on sale for a really good price, lol. That's how I arrived at this Book Loot post, with my mini, mostly eBook haul, lol.

Last month I also received my pre-order of the latest Shadowhunter short story collection, Ghosts of the Shadow Market. I also picked up this nifty Avengers: Endgame bookmark. I figured if they can save the world after The Snap/Blip, my place in my book should be in good hands haha.

Bought:

Ghosts of the Shadow Market by Cassandra Clare, Sarah Rees Brennan, Maureen Johnson, Kelly Link, & Robin Wasserman
The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon
Here's to You, Rachel Robinson by Judy Blume
The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang
Time and Chance by Sharon Kay Penman
To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo

Have you read any of these? I'd love to hear what you thought of them!

Book Loot (35)

It's already April and I've only read 3 books so far this year, but I continue to hoard them, lol. Some of these were pre-orders for must-have new releases, like Defy Me.

I binge watched You a couple of months ago, breaking my typical rule of reading the book before seeing the movie/TV adaptation, lol. It was ridiculously addictive TV, and so I had to pick up the book.

I also picked up a mini haul on impulse at Books a Million. Their bargain books section is just a trove of temptation that I really should know better by now to avoid, hahaha. Most of the time I can walk through the aisles with my wallet unscathed, but this time, I caved, especially since I've been wanting to read Illuminae for the longest time.

Bought:

You by Caroline Kepnes
The Last Life of Prince Alastor by Alexandra Bracken
Defy Me by Tahereh Mafi
The Red Scrolls of Magic by Cassandra Clare & Wesley Chu
Illuminae by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
Love & Luck by Jenna Evans Welch
Dividing Eden by Joelle Charbonneau

eBooks:

Shadow Me by Tahereh Mafi
The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo

Book Loot (34)

Welcome to the first book haul post of 2019, in which I spotlight books that I accumulated back in 2018, lol. I feel like "book hoarding" is more accurate here because while I'm still not reading very much, I'm continuing to buy books. XD

Most of these were highly anticipated 2018 releases that I had pre-ordered. I also received this nifty Mr. Darcy mug as a gift. One can never have enough book-related mugs, I say!

Bought:

A Very Large Expanse of Sea by Tahereh Mafi
Vengeful by V.E. Schwab
What If It's Us by Becky Albertalli & Adam Silvera
The Lady's Guide to Petticoats and Piracy by Mackenzi Lee
The Dark Days Deceit by Alison Goodman
Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas
The Disasters by M.K. England
All You Can Ever Know by Nicole Chung
Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys
Sadie by Courtney Summers

Have you read any of these or are planning to read them?

Book Loot (33)

I haven't been reading a lot lately, but that hasn't stopped me from continuing to buy books, lol. I really need to stay away from the bargain/clearance bins; they're my weakness!

I'd seen this Pride and Prejudice quote shirt a few months ago but didn't want to part with my cash then. This time, the shirt was on clearance, and I didn't think twice about forking over my money.

Won:

The Witch of Willow Hall by Hester Fox
Thanks to Graydon House Books for the giveaway!

Bought:

The Princess, the Scoundrel, and the Farm Boy by Alexandra Bracken
City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab
To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han

I love Star Wars, and I love Alexandra Bracken's books, so I was thrilled to finally get a copy of The Princess, the Scoundrel, and the Farm Boy. Victoria Schwab is an auto-buy author for me, so City of Ghosts was totally on pre-order, lol. I admit that buying To All the Boys I've Loved Before was 100% prompted by all of the rave reviews for the Netflix adaptation. I'm such a nerd about trying to read the book before the movie, but I gotta tell ya, my curiosity about the movie is really, really, really starting to get the better of me! :D

Have you read any of these? What did you think of them?

Book Loot (32)

Even though I've been barely reading, as painfully chronicled in my mid-year rewind post, lol, I've somehow managed to accumulate new books. I went a little 1-click happy with some eBook deals, and I also had some Amazon rewards points to use.

I read a sample of My Plain Jane through the Epic Reads newsletter and HAD to get it, even though I still have to read The Lady Janies' previous collaboration, My Lady Jane.

In a rare venture outside of fiction, I've recently added not one but TWO nonfiction titles to my shelves. I'm a Simpsons fangirl, so Springfield Confidential is a must-read. Having grown up reading the Little House books and watching the TV show, I'm very eager to read Caroline Fraser's Prairie Fires, which I'd seen some rave reviews for.

For Review:

Competence by Gail Carriger
Many thanks to Gail Carriger!

Won:

The Clockmaker's Daughter by Kate Morton
I absolutely LOVE the cover for this!

Bought:

My Plain Jane by Cynthia Hand, Jodi Meadows, & Brodi Ashton
Springfield Confidential: Jokes, Secrets, and Outright Lies from a Lifetime Writing for The Simpsons by Mike Reiss with Matthew Klickstein
Prairie Fires: The American Dreams of Laura Ingalls Wilder by Caroline Fraser
I See London, I See France by Sarah Mlynowski
13 Little Blue Envelopes by Maureen Johnson
Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch

Book Loot (31)

It's not even the end of January, and I've already amassed books since December, LOL. I blame all of the fantastic Kindle deals Amazon had at the end of 2017/beginning of 2018. These titles were all on my TBR, the prices were too good to pass up, and so I 1-Clicked away. XD

Gifted:

Abhorsen by Garth Nix
Many thanks to the lovely Micheline at Lunar Rainbows Reviews for both this and the awesome HP mug! ♥

Bought:

Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson

eBooks:

Far from the Tree by Robin Benway
Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor
The Falconer by Elizabeth May
Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake
Warcross by Marie Lu
