So one day when she took an interest in these sour lemon hard candies on our coffee table, I was curious as to why. These were definitely a novelty (I'd never bought them before) and she's usually interested in new things so I thought maybe she was just checking them out and making sure they weren't up to no good.

I opened the box and let her have a sniff. She looked at them, then me, then back again, obviously wanting one. (She would never just *take* one - she's mostly a very good girl!)
So I offered her one, which she promptly carried to her bed.
And then started rolling on it like a goofball.
She never did eat it. Just wanted to play with it for some odd reason. I guess I would have been more surprised if she actually ate it, but still... she's so odd.
What goes through their fuzzy little heads? Does your pet do odd things you can't understand?
How adorable. Booker T has this thing where he will act like he wants something and even go as far as putting it in his mouth. You think he's eating it but then he looks at you a few seconds later and spits it out. I can only imagine what he's saying to us in his head. Cass is definitely my picky eater. He just recently started wanting to eat his food on a plate instead of a bowl - nutjob!
ReplyDeleteThat's so funny about Booker T. Rita will literally spit treats back out at you if it's not what she really wanted.
DeleteIt was a mini toy for her. Lol. I often wonder what's in those fuzzy heads.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it was like a mini toy. Our beagle when I was growing up used to do the same with cherry tomatoes. :)
DeleteBahahahaha!!! She is truly unique! Did she ask for another after she was done playing with that one?
ReplyDeleteShe is unique, that's for sure. No - she never asked for another one. Guess she figured she had beaten it into submission and "showed them!" So no need to mess with the rest of them? Who knows. :)
DeleteEverything my dogs do, they do for food! It's as easy as that! :-)
ReplyDeleteThat does make it easy. Rita is just plain weird about food. I've never had a dog that was so weird about it.
DeleteRita you are a character!
ReplyDeletehugs
Hazel & Mabel
She is indeed.
DeleteI'd worry about eating those candies. Honey would do just what Rita did if she smelled dead fish or deer turds. :)
ReplyDeleteI worry about a lot of things. Not that. Luckily we don't get near dear turds or dead fish too often. (Dead fish sometimes, but definitely no deer around here.)
DeleteWhen I first got Mini, she didn't like peanut butter and would walk away from it, but now she likes it! And the rolling thing, that's so funny she is rolling in candy! Dachshunds are worse and will roll in a LOT of things... the most recent being a rat she caught! I read they do it to cover up their scent as hunters.
ReplyDeleteWow, how long did that take for her to decide she liked PB? Rita has been with us 5 1/2 years and so far she has not changed her mind! :)
DeleteEeek on the rat-rolling!
Silly girl. Sometimes I take things I don't want and spend the day protecting them for no apparent reason!
ReplyDeleteHehehe. That's cute Emma. I'm sure you have your reasons!
DeleteShe's too cute
ReplyDeleteWe think so.
Deletethat's hilarious!
ReplyDeleteShe makes us smile/laugh on a daily basis! I'm sure Milo does the same for you!
DeleteShe's so darn cute! I've seen my dogs do this type of thing with blueberries. They didn't want to eat them, just play with them (except Luke, who loves almost all his fruits and veggies!)
ReplyDeleteOh, gosh, a blueberry... if I try giving her one of those it would have to be outside. I know she wouldn't eat it (she won't eat ANY fruit) and I sure wouldn't want her rolling on it in the house! :) What a good boy Luke is. The only veg Rita likes are sweet potatoes and the occasional squash.
DeleteThank you for making me laugh out loud on a weekly basis! "This is mine, right?" BAAAhahahahahaha
ReplyDeleteSo glad to be of service! :)
DeleteOMGosh, too funny. And hits far too close to home lately with my Ninja dog, Elsa. All of a sudden, she's breaking into the pantry, grocery store shopping bags waiting to be unloaded, and standing on hind legs at the oven for snitches of hot pizza being cooled for cutting. #ohthatdog
ReplyDeleteThat was a fun surprise for both of you.
ReplyDeleteMy husband just reminded me that my first cat, Felix, used to roll around on black olives. I guess they smelled good to him.
DeleteLOL Okay, that's kinda crazy! Do you think she thought it was some kind of teeny toy?
ReplyDeleteWho knows what goes on in her wee little head. Our beagle when I was growing up would do the same with cherry tomatoes. So ... yeah, maybe they think these tiny round(ish) things are toys???
Deletehello rita its dennis the vizsla dog hay i no yoo just wanted to shoot marbels with it rite??? yoo just need a fyoo mor before yoo kan reely git the game going!!! ok bye
ReplyDeleteIt had to be the smell and perhaps the size.
