DIY Nail Polish Storage Rack

Nothing to Disclose

Good morning! Today I have a quick post to show you guys the polish rack I've been working on that you may have seen "in progress" on my Instagram or FB page.

My disclosure is that I am not a carpenter. I'm fairly handy though and this was really easy - providing you have the tools handy.

Polish Stash

Okay okay...people keep asking for photos of my stash and how I store them. All I can say is BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU ASK FOR!

I have some storage solutions I'm happy with, some makeshift solutions that will need to change eventually and some NON-solutions that drive me totally batty. So here it is...the good, the bad and the ugly.

The only thing I'm not showing you is my desk area and boxes of donation polishes. I feel like I'm already stripping down to my bikini, but I'm not going to bare it ALL! At least not right now.

Nail Polish Storage and Collection 2.0

I figured it was time to update my storage and collection page, but I've been waiting until I got everything put away. I realized that's never going to happen. So this is without about 50 - 75 polishes that are always somewhere else - collections I'm swatching, new stuff that hasn't been put away, etc. But this will have to do for now.

Since I still haven't gotten around to building the other shelves or clearing up wall space to hang them, I went looking for something else and I found these great little wire racks for $6.95 each at Walmart in the bath section! I cut out little pieces of lightweight cardboard (actually I cut up those priority mail envelopes from the USPS that were sent to me by mistake when I ordered the flat rate bubble mailers) to line the bottoms and the worked out great!

So here are just some photos of my storage and collection...

I would take a pic of my desk  and work space, but it's such a mess I don't dare.

Nail Polish Storage - Finis!

So if you read my first two posts on this ongoing storage problem, you're probably expecting three shelves. I changed it up a little. If you haven't already read the first two posts on how I built them, they're here (Part One) and here (Part Two.)

I didn't end up building the third one and flanking the window with them. I still might build some sort of corner unit, But for now, this is how it is for a while.

I can see and easily access all of my polishes except the ones in the hat boxes...those are for giveaways, Zoya Earth Day, etc.

It's working great so far!

Nail Polish Storage Part Deux

Making progress - slowly. (See Part Un here.)

As you can see, I'm going to need those other two units. These are the polishes that still need a home. And there's more NP in the hat boxes. Arrrghh!

Soldiering onward!

Nail Polish Storage Solutions?

I've thought about this a LOT. I've considered a Helmer, a Melmer, various other drawer solutions, beauty salon display racks and on and on and on.

Every time I come close to just biting the bullet and picking one, I think "Hey I should just build something!"

So I've decided to do that. For less than $20 I bought enough 1 x 2" 8 foot (because my lumber yard didn't have 1 x 3"s or 10 foot boards) pine boards to build three shelving units.

One 48W x 59H and two 30W x 59H.  Had my man not borrowed my table saw (and had I not been too lazy to haul it back over to my garage) I *might* have just bought a sheet of MDF and ripped the boards. Even cheaper!

Anyway, I started on the larger one this afternoon. My tools...

All squared up, sanded, glued and nailed...I'm not using a backer because I'm attaching it directly to the wall.

And because it's just pine and not better grade, I'm priming...

All painted and ready to be hung on the wall. I've located the studs but I just do NOT have the energy left in my tired old body to hang it tonight because I know if I did, I'd feel compelled to start putting polishes on it, my OCD would kick in and I'd never go to bed.

And what does my mani look like after all of this?  Well I've scrubbed until my hands are raw and can't seem to get all the paint off of them. I'm actually wearing Megan Miller Velvet Lounge, which is a vampy deep purple and other than all the black paint everywhere, it still looks pretty good! It's actually more purple and less black, but I will show that to you when I blog about it. I'm too tired to mess with the lighting to show it off properly now.

Tomorrow, I hang it and throw together the other two units which will hang on either side of the window of the wall to the right.

I think this will work!

What do you think? How do you store your polishes?
