Pixel Joint - About Us

Pixel Joint is all about the pixel art community. The site was started in September 2004 by sedgemonkey, but the tools were not in place to submit pixel art until December 7, 2004. Since the site has opened to submissions the gallery has grown steadily, a forum was opened and a couple of collaborative projects (The Joint and Lil Dudes) were given homes.

Here's the current crop of mods that keep the site going...

I'll probably post comments on your art, with mild feedback - if you've proven yourself to be an experienced artist, then I'll assume you're experienced in receiving constructive critique and knowing how to fix it.

If you're ok with more in-depth feedback let me know and I'll try posting edits, since those will more clearly convey how I think you can improve your art. I'm not fantastic with articulating issues through text.

I started working with pixel graphics at the end of the 90s, when as part of the Space Ewe Software duo, I started working on the platformer Bud Redhead - The Time Chase with my husband. Working at Delux Paint was quite painful, but after only 4-5 years we managed to finish our game.

At that time, indie game developers were a real rarity, for me it was the golden age of game development. In the meantime, we made a few more games, participated in several contests, won a few prizes, and burned out a little.

As a freelancer, I continue to work on various projects, so among other things, I have about 20 children's picture books under my belt.

In the meantime, I wanted to do pixel graphics again, so I finally discovered Pixel Joint.

Since the beginning of 2018, I am a mod on PJ, surrounded by a bunch of talented and good people.

♫ 31  She/Her Pan Goth Satanist ♫

Hi! I'm Kami, nice to see you on my page! Here you'll find my silly scribbles over the last years.

I've been making pixel art for over 15 years, starting with Pokémon sprite fusions and recolors, eventually spreading into making my own edits to full scratch sprites. I still enjoy returning to sprite fusions, and work on Pokémon Infinite Fusion time to time! I've also done a lot of work for Poke Wilds, some of which is in my gallery! I can't post some of it, due to a lot of my work being animating other people's sprite work or making edits.

Outside of sprite work I enjoy drawing, painting, and playing video games. I (mostly) draw anthro-style characters but enjoy just about anything. I work as a lead creature designer for Elemera and an artist for the virtual pet site, Rescreatu and, of course, a mod here!

Pixel Joint Thanks

We here at Pixel Joint could never have made this site click without the daily efforts of the PJ members and admins and we really appreciate it. There's about a ga-jillion other people we'd like to thank for helping track down bugs, providing content, submitting pixel art and just generally cool people who post cool comments. You know who you are.

We would like to specifically thank...
Blueberry_pie
For creating the pixel art smilies we used in the WYSIWYG editor and forum in v1 and v2 of PJ.
Brian the Great
For early mod help on PJ in its formative years.
Dynamic Drive
For the super simple drop down menu code in the navigation which works flawlessly across all modern browsers. I've been visiting it for years for JavaScript ideas.
FCKeditor
For the wonderful cross-browser (IE, FireFox, Netscape, Mozilla), Open Source WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor that has really allowed the content tools of PJ to be accessible to everyone.
iSTVAN
For creating the 'nerd' in the default PJ web design.
jQuery Tools
Some of the easiest to install and tiny jQuery tools around.
Larwick
For contributing the awards icons that give us all a boost in the darkest of days.
Peppermint Pig
For his v2 Pixel Joint design revisions.
pixelblink
For his amazing work on 'The Joint', icon packs, screensaver, tutorials and his efforts at trying to keep the PJ site up and running in the early years.
samson
For his help keeping the Wee project alive (and for creating 150+ kick ass Wees).
ThePixelChick
For her fun little Flash memory game.
[thUg]
For contributing a fantastic set of rank icons for PJ based on the initial set Ensellitis contributed and following Larwick's trophy style.
Web Wiz Forums
For the only decent ASP forum solution.
