Show me your G50 shifter

Recently acquired a new to me 88 Carerra. I hate the shifter/boot combo.

I would like to see what other pelicans are doing for a G50 Knob/boot combo, and especially if you have found a longer handle and good looking boot.

heres a pic of the current set up-

Here's what is in my '88 with a Marine Blue and Linen interior - sorry for the crappy cell phone pics, I just snapped them in a hot parking lot:

The shift boot appears to be factory stock. The Nardi shift knob is, of course, aftermarket.

While I'm not a fan of the Nardi knob's look in this car, it is very comfortable. The shift knob is starting to show some wear, and I will probably buy a stock one (while they are still available). I don't really know what color it was stock, either Linen, Marine Blue, or Black, but the only color that can still be purchased new is Black...so I'll start with that and if I don't like it, I can always dye it.

Edit: This post has pictures of the stock boot, and one by AGLA in a G50 (as well as others). I prefer the stock look.

Edit 2: During a Google Image search, I found a car that looked just like mine...it turned out to be mine I had posted a question about shift knob original color last year, and there are pictures of similar cars and more combos for you to see. I hope that this helps.

What year is your car? That doesn't look like any '87-'89 knob/boot combo I've ever seen.

Its an 88- Looks to me like an aftermarket piece, with the boot integrated into the knob. With Recaro seats, and my being 6'3" its a bit of a reach.

I'm also used to the long upright factory stick in my 65 GTO which feels great, and is positioned perfectly....not really a fair comparison I know

Looks like the boot/knob combo is an AJ-USA part.

There are a few options for the longer handle or revised shift throw.

-WEVO
-Rennshift
-FABCAR
-Hargett

The first two are direct shifter replacements. Work nice from what I gather. The last two are racing shifters that don't really lend themselves to a street car.

I can't tell, but my shift lever appears to be longer than yours. Your lever could be part of some sort of a short shift kit (or maybe the full leather boot is playing tricks on my eyes).

In any case, I'm about a foot shorter than you (and thus have shorter arms). When I first started driving the car, I found the shifter reach and throw to be long and clumsy. After about a month of driving, the shifting became very intuitive and it just felt right; with my hand falling naturally from the steering wheel to the shifter. You may want to give it some time to get used to before making any huge changes to the lever.

When I bought my 88 it also had an aftermarket shifter and handbrake boot. It is an eagleday set and it is pretty good quality. Similar to yours but has the shift pattern. Installed a JWest G50 short shift kit and I like the whole setup.

E Brake boot looks the same, so maybe mine just has a different shift knob.

Thanks for posting

Thanks, looks great. I think My problem is that the knob must slide down over the handle as the bolt head is right underneath the cover where the shift pattern should be.

Does anybody currently make a bolt on handle extender?

Wevo makes a taller shift knob for their system. Their quality is great.

thanks. it's a rennshift from jwest engineering. i believe the rod is regular height, but the knob is just slightly taller than stock. i just got a knob with the same thread/pitch as the rod and attached it using a bolt with the head cut off.
