A Little Night Music: Van Morrison's Live Performance Of "Comfortably Numb'

My wife and I watched Martin Scorsese’s The Departed again on TV this evening.

The Departed is a good film, but I prefer his great crime films, such as Mean Streets, Raging Bull, Casino, and perhaps the greatest crime film ever made, Goodfellas.

The Departed was a remake of a Hong Kong film called Infernal Affairs, which I saw before The Departed. The remake simply replaced Chinese characters for Irish American characters.

Scorsese used popular music well in The Departed's soundtrack, as he has in his other fine films.

Although the score in The Departed is not as good as Goodfellas or Mean Streets, I particularly liked one song that Scorsese’s uses, Van Morrison’s live performance of Pink Floyd's song, Comfortably Numb, with Pink Floyd's Roger Waters, The Band and other well-known performers.

A Look Back At Martin Scorsese' World Of Crime

With Martin Scorsese (seen above in the white shirt with his Goodfellas actors) being hailed at this time as the director of Killers of the Flower Moon, I thought readers might like to look back at previous crime films from the famed director.

I’m a huge fan of Mean Streets, Raging Bull and Casino. And I think Goodfellas is one of the greatest crime films ever made.

Below is a link to my Crime Beat column on Scorsese’s The Departed, and his earlier films:
