My Q&A With Former Navy SEAL And Author Dick Couch

My interview with former Navy SEAL Dick Couch, author of SEAL Team One, By Honor Bound: Two Navy SEALs, The Medal of Honor and a Story of Extraordinary Courage, Navy SEALs: Their Untold Story, as well as several fine thrillers that feature SEALs, appeared today in The Journal of Counterterrorism & Homeland Security International.

A C-SPAN Q & A With Author And Former Navy SEAL Dick Couch

In light of the increased interest in Navy SEALs due to the bin Laden raid, this past Sunday C-Span interviewed Dick Couch, the author of seven books on Navy SEALs and Special Operations, as well as seven novels.

Former Navy SEAL Dick Couch has lectured widely, including as adjunct professor of ethics at the U.S. Naval Academy. He also acts as an advisor to the commander of U.S. Special Operations Command.

His latest book is The Sheriff of Ramadi, a nonfiction book about the role of the Navy SEALs in the al-Anbar province from 2005 to 2007. His next book, to be released in 2012, is called Sua Sponte: The Making of a Modern American Ranger.

Dick Couch became a member of the Underwater Demolition and SEAL Teams following his 1967 graduation from the U.S. Naval Academy. As a platoon leader in SEAL Team One in 1970, he led a POW rescue operation in Vietnam. His active duty in the military ended in 1972. He then joined the CIA as a Maritime Operations Officer.

Dick Couch, Former U.S. Navy SEAL, CIA Officer and Author, Speaks to Future Leaders at Virginia Military Institute

Former U.S. Navy SEAL and CIA officer, Captain Dick Couch (ret.) recently spoke about ethics and leadership to the cadets at the Virginia Military Institute (VMI).

Captain Couch, who teaches ethics at the U.S. Naval Academy, is also an author. He has written nonfiction books on Iraq, the Navy SEALs and Army Special Forces, such as SEAL Team One and The Sheriff of Ramadi. He has also written several thrillers.

Paul Davis

Paul Davis is a writer who covers crime. He has written extensively about organized crime, cybercrime, street crime, white collar crime, crime fiction, crime prevention, espionage and terrorism. His 'On Crime' column appears in the Washington Times and his 'Crime Beat' column appears here. He is also a regular contributor to Counterterrorism magazine and writes their online 'Threatcon' column. Paul Davis' crime fiction appears in American Crime Magazine. His work has also appeared in the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Philadelphia Daily News, Philadelphia Weekly and other publications. As a writer, he has attended police academy training, gone out on patrol with police officers, accompanied detectives as they worked cases, accompanied narcotics officers on drug raids, observed criminal court proceedings, visited jails and prisons, and covered street riots, mob wars and murder investigations. He has interviewed police commissioners and chiefs, FBI, DEA, HSI and other federal special agents, prosecutors, public officials, WWII UDT frogmen, Navy SEALs, Army Delta operators, Israeli commandos, military intelligence officers, Scotland Yard detectives, CIA officers, former KGB officers, film and TV actors, writers and producers, journalists, novelists and true crime authors, gamblers, outlaw bikers, and Cosa Nostra organized crime bosses. Paul Davis has been a student of crime since he was a 12-year-old aspiring writer growing up in South Philadelphia. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy when he was 17 in 1970. He served aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Kitty Hawk during the Vietnam War and he later served two years aboard the Navy harbor tugboat U.S.S. Saugus at the U.S. floating nuclear submarine base at Holy Loch, Scotland. He went on to do security work as a Defense Department civilian while working part-time as a freelance writer. From 1991 to 2005 he was a producer and on-air host of "Inside Government," a public affairs interview radio program that aired Sundays on WPEN AM and WMGK FM in the Philadelphia area.
