Limericks on Ayers, William

Limerick #53256 Ayers, Bill
It was thought if Americans found
That Obama was pallin' around
With Bill Ayers, Barack
Would be easy to knock
Off his game, and McCain would rebound.
William Ayers (AY-urz, b. 1944) is a University of Illinois at Chicago professor and former member of the Weather Underground, a terrorist group that bombed public buildings in the 1960s and 1970s to protest the Vietnam War. Charges were brought against Ayers but dropped because police gathered evidence illegally. Ayers has been active in Chicago-area educational reform for two decades. In the 1990s he served on a board with Barack Obama, then a community activist. Ayers hosted a party to help kick off Obama's entry into local politics.

Falling behind in the polls and in an attempt to influence public opinion, Obama's 2008 opponent John McCain allowed his running mate Sarah Palin to repeatedly charge in stump speeches that Obama was "palling around with terrorists" because of his past relationship to Ayers.
