ClearviewHwy

Thursday 28 October 2004This is 20 years old. Be careful.

Can a typeface save your life? Well, maybe not. But improved legibility on highways is a good thing, and ClearviewHwy is a new typeface designed with just that in mind. It’s good looking, and could bring more mixed-case signs, which will give the roads a slightly friendlier feel. Maybe it will reduce road-rage, you never know!

Check out this PDF. I feel like I know 1000% more about highway signs just from looking at the pretty pictures.

Um, OK. But the header graphic is pretty stupid. Does a font clean your window?

The new font looks a bit like the UK traffic sign font:

Certainly nicer than the old one, which just looks... um... wierd. And slightly unevenly misshapen to my eye.
