JUST THE BOYS

The boys are giving their testimonial for the heated dog bed. They love it, keeps them cozy even when the sun isn't out. I was impressed you could plug it in the lighter in the car too. Can't let our hot dogs get cold!

Rango's Assimilation

As one can witness from the photo, Rango (piebald longhair) has been assimilated into the pack. It took a little while. There was strong opposition from Miss Peaches in particular. Our resident wire hair did not welcome the uncouth new comer. She is the leader here and had to assert herself. Spaatz, the black and tan dapple didn't like him at first, but soon hashed it out and they now are tearing up the floor boards here chasing each other around. Foozeball, the red, now plays with Rango too, which is cool because playing hasn't been his thing so much, but now the three boys really go for the gusto sparring with each other. I'm glad they're small dogs or I would likely have some broken furniture. When Rango finds his forever home they might even miss him.

Rango Project Continues

Rango Tango, as we call him has been our foster dog for about 3 weeks now. He's doing real well and could probably move on anytime now. I think he'd be best with a experienced dachshund owner. We think he was abused where ever he started out because of the way he cringes if he thinks he's in trouble, even when there is no reason. I think eventually he will get over this the way our Peaches got over being a scaredy cat. He is real sweet and lookin for love. We hope the right person comes along.

I just washed my hair and can't do a thing with it

Miss Peaches is a wire haired dachshund and being one has to deal with the beauty hazards of the wire hair. Here in NY winter is upon us, it hasn't been real severe ( although stinking cold last week) we've had a little snow here and there. This past Saturday we went to "the Farm" where I can let everyone run free but Rango the foster dog. Anyway they have a blast running around at high speed and its a big sniff-o-rama. Peachy disappeared under an old dump truck she had obviously been digging and her whole underside was muddy and stuck with old leaves and sticks. When we got home all the other dogs got a quick wipe down and I let them in. Miss Peachy after having the sticks and what not pulled out of her fur got carried in to the laundry room for a bath as you see her afterward waiting to be dried off. Sunday we went for a hike in the woods, she needed a quick wash after that too, not quite so much dirt but its the curly fur that not only attracts twigs and dirt but works like Velcro to hold onto it. Good thing she's coopertive in the tub.

Peaches loves crochet

Peaches wants to "help"
Peaches loves crochet blankets, so much so she can't wait for me to actually get it finished for her her to get comfy. In fact all of My Three Doxons descended upon me as I was working on my latest blanket that the whole project had to be shut down. It's a continuous granny square that I need to spin while I work. Even our "quest" dachshund was in on the action, they just come up, get comfy and go to sleep, then I'm feelin' pretty cozy myself and the look so cute, oh well, maybe later.

Just a bunch of Tattletales

Rango, the long haired piebald wants to be part of the pack
Well, the Rango fostering project continues. The SPCA thought he was an aggressive dog that would be difficult to place. It turns out he's not aggressive, just terrified of being in a cage with 10 large dogs barking all the time in the same room. It's taking a little while for the pack to accept him, Peaches is still not too sure. Its funny though, I know when Rango has been naughty, all my dogs come in the room where I am and have this look on their faces that says "Rango did it". It's usually getting in the garbage or pooping in the house right after coming inside. I'm happy to say we've had some improvements in these areas lately. I have read dogs don't feel guilt, which I don't agree with. Then how would they know their not guilty, and want to make sure I know it wasn't them?

I Thought They were Dachshunds But,.....

It turns out that they are North American Cheesehounds. Their noses can hone in on all types of cheese from great distances. They can hear the crinkle sound of a package containing cheese from at least 2 rooms away. Their long low bodies are perfect for getting to any cheesy morsel that may have gotten out of the range of any larger breed. They also come equipped standard with extremely cute faces that renders their owner defenseless so they will relinquish the cheese without a struggle. It is unwise to look at the photo too long, you may find yourself running to the kitchen to find some cheddar to give to the nearest lowrider dog.
