Most Recognizable Breed: The Dachshund

Spaatz
The Dachshund is said, and I believe, the most easily recognizable breed. Now not everyone will know the name dachshund, but they will certainly know one of the nicknames that the dachshund goes by.
Foozie
Even little kids know a hot dog when they see one. Or the ever popular wiener dog. They're half a dog tall and a dog and half long. Other breeds might be long and low, but they don't possess the pencil schnozz, the piercing eyes and the fun loving nature of the dachshund. They are the ultimate lap dog yet they are ready for action at a moments notice. They always call "shotgun" when it comes to going for a ride.
Now Miss Peaches does tend to confuse people a bit , but believe you me she is all dachshund. She can't quite turn off the hunting mode. The hairdo of the wire hair makes people unsure, if they only knew wire hairs are awesome. I love my smoothie boys, but I've had 2 wire hairs and they are so sweet and FLUFFY.
Thought I'd throw in the long hair we fostered- Rango

Rango Project Winding Down

Rango, Spaatz and Foozy
The Rango Project shall be coming to a close soon. If you saw previous stories you know the SPCA asked us to take on a dachshund they had who was a problem. They called him Rambo because he tried to bite several people and some couldn't get near him. We call him Rango, I'm happy to say that he has been transformed into a big mush that just wants to be loved. He was just real scared in that place. His biggest problem now are his manners, he will climb over the top of the other dogs so he can be close to me. Miss Peaches doesn't appreciate this as she is top dog. He will even ring the doggie bell to go out when he needs to.
He was listed in the local paper over the weekend and some people came to see him. They are people who had a long hair dachshund for many years. I am so glad that some dachshundists will be taking him. He will do well, he really is a good boy and there, he will get ALL the love, which will make him happy. The End.
Rango becomes part of the pack

JUST THE BOYS

The boys are giving their testimonial for the heated dog bed. They love it, keeps them cozy even when the sun isn't out. I was impressed you could plug it in the lighter in the car too. Can't let our hot dogs get cold!

Rango's Assimilation

As one can witness from the photo, Rango (piebald longhair) has been assimilated into the pack. It took a little while. There was strong opposition from Miss Peaches in particular. Our resident wire hair did not welcome the uncouth new comer. She is the leader here and had to assert herself. Spaatz, the black and tan dapple didn't like him at first, but soon hashed it out and they now are tearing up the floor boards here chasing each other around. Foozeball, the red, now plays with Rango too, which is cool because playing hasn't been his thing so much, but now the three boys really go for the gusto sparring with each other. I'm glad they're small dogs or I would likely have some broken furniture. When Rango finds his forever home they might even miss him.

Rango Project Continues

Rango Tango, as we call him has been our foster dog for about 3 weeks now. He's doing real well and could probably move on anytime now. I think he'd be best with a experienced dachshund owner. We think he was abused where ever he started out because of the way he cringes if he thinks he's in trouble, even when there is no reason. I think eventually he will get over this the way our Peaches got over being a scaredy cat. He is real sweet and lookin for love. We hope the right person comes along.

Peaches loves crochet

Peaches wants to "help"
Peaches loves crochet blankets, so much so she can't wait for me to actually get it finished for her her to get comfy. In fact all of My Three Doxons descended upon me as I was working on my latest blanket that the whole project had to be shut down. It's a continuous granny square that I need to spin while I work. Even our "quest" dachshund was in on the action, they just come up, get comfy and go to sleep, then I'm feelin' pretty cozy myself and the look so cute, oh well, maybe later.

Just a bunch of Tattletales

Rango, the long haired piebald wants to be part of the pack
Well, the Rango fostering project continues. The SPCA thought he was an aggressive dog that would be difficult to place. It turns out he's not aggressive, just terrified of being in a cage with 10 large dogs barking all the time in the same room. It's taking a little while for the pack to accept him, Peaches is still not too sure. Its funny though, I know when Rango has been naughty, all my dogs come in the room where I am and have this look on their faces that says "Rango did it". It's usually getting in the garbage or pooping in the house right after coming inside. I'm happy to say we've had some improvements in these areas lately. I have read dogs don't feel guilt, which I don't agree with. Then how would they know their not guilty, and want to make sure I know it wasn't them?

The RANGO Project

Rango, long haired dachshund, close to standard size
The SPCA called us to see if we would foster a dachshund they had there for a while. They called him Rambo because he was mean and tried to bite many people. We checked him out. I figured he was just terrified. In this small room in a cage, about 10 other dogs barking constantly. We brought him home, I figured we'd call him Rango, you know, stranger in a strange place. At first he was so scared. Hiding under the dining room table, peed himself. I was shocked that within 2 hours he started to transform. He remembered his inner dachshund, running around, tail wagging, playing. It hasn't been a total miracle, he has some issues, food aggression, possessiveness. Trying to work through those things now. Oh yeah, he's a trash hound. I am struck by how we've been able to improve his life in a night and day fashion and he has responded quicker than I could have expected. We're trying and he's trying too and hopefully he'll get a furever home someday, he can be real sweet, he just needs the right people to give him a chance.
