My deepest thanks to everyone who joined me last week to celebrate the United States government's announcement of $6.4 billion of direct funding into our Taylor, Texas plant as part of Congress's CHIPS and Science Act. This major step forward will help re-establish a U.S. semiconductor supply chain and ecosystem while also giving America the leading manufacturing edge it needs to meet the growing demands of #HPC and #AI. It was a beautiful day in Taylor to celebrate with the many partners who helped make this incredible accomplishment a reality. I was particularly inspired by the well-wishes from the many technology leaders who joined in our celebrations, including Qualcomm President & CEO Cristiano R. Amon, who said it best of all: "This is an important opportunity to strengthen the U.S. semiconductor ecosystem, enhance the industry's supply chain resilience, and provide innovative foundry capabilities for leading U.S. fabless semiconductor companies." I could not agree more. The Department of Commerce's investment in #SamsungSemiconductor’s Taylor campus represents a massive leap forward in securing America's advanced-node silicon supply chain. Over the coming years and months, we are excited to begin reaping the many fruits of this partnership, while continuing to grow and secure the U.S. semiconductor supply chain. 

ARMA’s CEO Kevin Fincher, along with Alyssa Reinhart of UT's Texas Institute for Electronics and Laura Marmolejo, Ed.D of Austin Community College, were interviewed yesterday in this KXAN news report announcing the creation of a new semiconductor training center in Central Texas. The program was developed as a partnership with The University of Texas at Austin, Austin Community College, and the Texas Institute for Electronics. It was created to address the need for workforce development in the semiconductor industry from entry-level technicians to graduate-level engineers.         ARMA has long been an advocate for this type of coordinated workforce development effort. According to Fincher, “We have had a gap for several decades where we have not been putting students into these types of programs. We have to develop that pipeline.” Thanks to ACC, UT, and TIE for their leadership in developing this comprehensive semiconductor workforce pathway, providing students of all levels an entry point into the booming semiconductor industry in Central Texas. #workforcedevelopement #advancedmanufacturing #semiconductors #jobtraining #manufacuturing #jobs https://lnkd.in/gR-dHHPD

Virginia Alliance for Semiconductor Technology (VAST) Tomorrow (July 15th) marks the launch of the first cohort of VAST Fast Track to Semiconductor Careers (FTSC). The first cohort focuses only on Technical Area 1: Chip Fabrication and Nano Charaterization. We are sorry that we could not take all interested students as we reached the maximum planned capacity for the first cohort. However, we are working to scale up the program for the second cohort. The training sites for the first cohort are University of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Old Dominion University. For the second cohort, Virginia Tech and Norfolk State University will be added too and if needed, we will increase the number of sessions per site. Later, George Mason University will be included as a training site as well. I need to thank many individual people and organizations who helped us reach this milestone including the VAST management team, directors of cleanrooms, VAST Operation Committee, leadership at all participating universities, VAST semiconductor process engineers, Virginia Tech Continuing and Professional Education, ODUGlobal, and the Commonwealth of Virginia leadership. Planning state-wide coordinated programs across multiple institutions is not easy and requires not only legal frameworks but also dedication, aspiration, and commitments from all parties involved. Yesterday, I had the pleasure of meeting with delegates from Peoria, Arizona and other industry leaders to discuss the future of the semiconductor industry in the United States. With new fabs being built across the country, Arizona has become a targeted location for critical fabs like #TSMC. It was inspiring to see the proactive approach this state is taking to develop the workforce and infrastructure needed for these fabs to operate efficiently. As the industry continues to grow, it's important that states collaborate and not compete with one another. We need to develop the right workforce, promote STEM education, and increase our focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion for the immigrant workforce that makes up one-third of the semiconductor industry's workforce in the US. With an expected shortage of one million workers by 2030 in the semiconductor industry, we must act now. #Semiconductor is the foundation of everything digital we experience. It’s not enough to focus on the importance of this industry to the world. Here in #siliconvalley, we should not take this valley for granted. We need to continue to create the right foundation for this industry and to remain the #technology hub of the world.

Wouldn't it be great to see the sunniest state in the union lead on PV manufacturing and science? Did you know semi-conductors and PV cells both use the same feed-stock, silicon wafers? What ISN'T happening and why? It's really disheartening seeing my state shoot itself in the foot because of contrived political divisions, again and again. Clearly there is an industrial development coalescence that could be happening that isn't, instead we have a the ACA investing in an unproven and un-scaled technology called carbon capture, so that the powers that be don't have to change.
