This Electric Vehicle meets the demands of of individuals with mobility challenges.

The IMechE Transport Hierarchy, published in 2013, the same year as this graphic from Copenhagen Design Co., tells us that we must increase efficiency of low-impact modes of transport. That would include making sure that walking and cycling routes, and bus routes, are more direct, and that high impact modes of transport, specifically private cars, should be adapted around those direct routes. Not the way it is done today. This is a good example of how different thinking, rather than only new technology, is needed to resolve teh wicked problems like urban transport and the air quality, climate change, congestion, safety and other issues caused by our current systems.

🌿 Exciting Insights from #Resi360 🏡At the Resi360 conference, I delved into the critical topic of housing sustainability and the balance between cost and value. Here are some key takeaways: 1️⃣ Short-term costs can provide long-term returns, especially when we address the 30% of emissions stemming from heat. Built-to-Rent (BTR) housing offers more autonomy and ownership of the stock, with the structural capacity to adopt sustainable practices at scale. 2️⃣ Return on investment in sustainable housing raises the question: Do people need to pay a premium for eco-friendly living? 3️⃣ Challenges in the supply chain persist, from a lack of skilled trade personnel to issues in energy retrofits. Initiatives like the Retrofit Academy aim to bridge these gaps and bring the right technology and experts on board. 4️⃣ Minimizing disruption for the 90% of homes already in existence by 2050 is crucial. We must find innovative ways to retrofit and reduce their carbon footprint. 5️⃣ Prefabrication and the secondary-hand market for materials are key considerations, addressing embodied carbon and live carbon accounting. 6️⃣ Exploring waste heat sources within cities, large-scale heat pumps, and networks can revolutionise our energy use, even heating swimming pools with data centers. 7️⃣ Closed timber frames and smart grids pave the way for generating and storing renewable energy at the local level. 8️⃣ Intelligent controls play a crucial role in optimising energy usage throughout the day.The future of housing sustainability is promising, but it requires collaboration, innovation, and the right incentives. How will new consumer habits, dramatic new infrastructure and future vehicle design enable lower-emissions transportation systems? In Accelerated Futures: The New Eco-Mobility, Stylus highlights the best-in-class initiatives helping consumers adopt eco-mobility without sacrificing comfort or convenience.
