Proudly celebrating over 150 years of Ethical Banking

About us

Welcome to the official LinkedIn page for The Co-operative Bank. Our story began in 1872 in Victorian Rochdale and the co-operative values on which our bank was built 150 years ago still stand today. They are more than the foundations of the bank, they are what connect us together – colleagues, customers, the businesses who bank with us, charities we support and the issues we stand for. Since 1992, our unique customer-led Ethical Policy gives our customers a say in how their money is used and commits us to campaigning for the causes that matter to them. Because unlike a lot of banks, we understand the power your money has, and the difference it can make to the planet, people, and the community. We haven’t financed the production or extraction of fossil fuels for over 20 years and we won’t do business with organisations that fail to implement basic human rights. Do you know how your bank invests your money? Not many people do. Breaking down barriers to financial health is what drives Experian and we are today delighted to announce a new partnership with World and Paralympic champion Kadeena Cox. A four-time gold medal winner, Kadeena will be promoting Experian Support Hub, a free platform which allows users to share their access and support needs with multiple businesses in one go. She said: “I am delighted to be working with Experian. Support Hub is a great service which knocks down barriers for those with disabilities and access needs, helping people get the service they deserve. “Like many people with a disability, it impacts my daily life in ways which people can’t see. Something as simple as contacting and speaking with service providers can sometimes feel like an exhausting chore – that’s why a service like Support Hub is so important.” Jose Luiz Rossi, Managing Director, Experian UK&I, said: “Kadeena is one of the country’s most successful paralympic athletes and we are very proud that she is working with us on one of our most important initiatives. “Experian Support Hub helps solves a real consumer issue, and made with inclusivity in mind, enabling people to share their access and support needs in a simple, standardised way so they can get access to services in a way which is most appropriate to them.” To find out more about Kadeena and Support Hub check out the video below and to sign-up to the service head to https://lnkd.in/dEHpKPcN. #ExperianSupportHub #Accessibility

🏠 1 year ago, alongside our charity partner Shelter we covered Parliament Square in 172 moving boxes to represent the number of families facing eviction each day. Together, we called for a strong renter’s bill to provide the radical change that is so desperately needed. Over the last 12 months, we’ve worked with Shelter to show how the broken private rented sector is ruining the lives of thousands of renters across the country. 🏽 In September last year we released shocking figures showing that older renters were increasingly being impacted by rent insecurity, with 90 renters aged 55+ being served a ‘no-fault’ eviction every day in England 🏰 We also paid a visit to the (then) PM, Rishi Sunak’s constituency, to share local renter David’s story; projecting his appeal for renting reform on Richmond castle ✉️ In May 2024, with the Renters Reform Bill being watered down by MPs, Shelter activists delivered over 138,000 signatures to Government to demand a strong Bill which would change renting for the better. By the time the previous Renters Reform Bill was scrapped, it had already failed to deliver on its promise of real reform. ✊ Our unique, customer-led Ethical Policy commits us to driving meaningful, societal change on issues including homelessness. On behalf of our customers and Shelter’s supporters, we’ll keep campaigning for change and for fairer rights for renters.

✊ Yesterday, we were invited as an ambassador of the Climate and Nature Bill, to hand in an open letter to the Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, alongside Zero Hour, 40 MPs, climate scientists and activists. Together, we're calling on the new Government to take decisive action and make the Climate and Nature Bill law: https://www.zerohour.uk/ 🌡️ 🌎 The #CANBill would ensure that the UK does its bit to keep global warming down to 1.5°C, whilst halting and reversing nature loss, giving us a chance to avoid the worst impacts of climate change. As the original ethical bank, our customers consistently tell us that protecting the planet matters to them. That’s why we haven’t invested in fossil fuels for over 25 years, and it’s why we continue to campaign to tackle the climate-nature crisis. #EthicalThenNowandAlways #ClimateChange Gary McDermott Tori Tsui Joycelyn Longdon Jonathan Wittenberg

🚣♀️ Colleagues from our legal team recently volunteered their time for WWT at Martin Mere, working very hard to help them tackle Himalayan Balsam and make a huge difference in the process. 💬 Louise Atkinson, Solicitor at The Co-operative Bank says: "Himalayan Balsam spreads along our waterways and crowds out native species, so volunteering to pull it up, alongside a team from Eversheds Sutherland made us feel like we really helped to tackle the problem. We thoroughly enjoyed spending the day in nature, especially with lovely weather. I'd encourage everyone to be on the lookout in and around their local parks and rivers, to help our communities beat the balsam!" At the Bank, colleagues are encouraged to take two paid volunteering days a year to volunteer and give back to their local community. 🏠 In today’s #KingsSpeech, the new government has announced that it is prioritising the rights of renters, by announcing plans for a Renters' Rights Bill. ✍️ Join us to demand that their rights are prioritised by adding your name to this petition: https://brnw.ch/21wLlca Together with our partner Shelter, our campaign for fairer renting has been amplifying the voices of our supporters and customers, by calling on change-makers to protect private renters facing unaffordable rents, homelessness and insecurity. ❌ Private renters can't wait any longer for long overdue reforms. #StateOpening

Today’s #KingsSpeech has given hope to renters, and the promised planning and devolution bills could help boost social housebuilding. However, if the government truly wants to end the #HousingEmergency they must 📈 set national and local social rent targets; 📝 get the planning system focused on social rent and making developers pay their fair share 🏠 get councils building again, including freezing and reviewing right to buy

    • “Today’s King’s Speech will restore hope to England’s 11 million renters, whose lives have been plagued by no fault evictions for decades.

“The new Renters Rights Bill has to be a fresh start at reforming broken private renting. Not only does this mean urgently scrapping no fault evictions, but also setting clear limits to in-tenancy rent increases. The government cannot allow landlords to continue to force tenants out of their homes with eyewatering rent hikes.

“If this government truly wants to deliver the biggest increase in social house building in a generation, any new planning legislation must be focussed on delivering 90,000 social rent homes a year. Private developers will not deliver the target 1.5m homes by themselves – councils need the means to build genuinely affordable homes too. Otherwise, their plans will fail, like countless governments before them, and homelessness will remain at a record high.”
