The American Institute of Architects (AIA) reposted this
2024 AIA President. HOK Architect. Cornell Trustee. Detroit Daughter. Ingenuity Chicago Board Chair.
Today is officially the last Monday of Summer 2024. The AIA team has already launched into a busy September with a series of meetings and events in and around Washington, D.C. last week. I’m currently en route to Columbus, OH, followed by Anaheim, CA, and Long Beach, CA for the balance of this week. Next week, I’ll be speaking in Des Moines, IA, New York, NY and Detroit, MI. With just twelve weeks left in my term as President, every moment matters. If I haven’t had the opportunity to visit your city, you can attribute it to limited time, but never a lack of wanting to show up for you. AIA staff is tracking where leadership has traveled in recent years to work on being more intentional about covering all of our chapter locations every few years. If you’d like to get into the rotation at a particular point in time, please reach out to your AIA contact. These chapter touch points are so important to us and to our members who participate. Because our headquarters building has been under construction the entire year, it is a bit more challenging to connect directly with members at our home base. While in D.C. last week, I checked in on construction progress for what is now called AIA’s Global Campus for Architecture and Design. It’s still a work in progress, as you can see from this image that I captured from New York Avenue, NW. By this time next year, we should be back in our building and setting an example for other building owners with serious climate action aspirations. We are proud of being on track to exceed AIA 2030 Commitment standards for fossil-fuel use reduction, as well as a 50% reduction in embodied carbon and 58% reduction in energy usage. To learn more about how The American Institute of Architects (AIA) is leading by example, check out the Framework for Design Excellence: https://lnkd.in/g6__kyHF Enjoy these last few days of Summer! #MoreIn24Monday #KND4AIA #100Week40

Introducing one of Green Builder Media, LLC’s 2024 Sustainable Products of the Year: Hardie Artisan Lap Siding ✨ Fiber cement products like this one can capture carbon dioxide (CO2) from the environment over their operational lifetime when cement absorbs and reacts with CO2 from the air. The home pictured uses this siding from James Hardie and shows its deep shadow lines and extra thick boards meant for attractive, streamlined styling.
