STEP is “a really important entry into the race for fusion,” says Dennis Whyte of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Steven Cowley director of the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL), agrees, saying the project “is probably one of the most advanced.” Read more in Science Magazine 👇👇 and thank you, Daniel Clery, for covering. https://lnkd.in/eUeyy-ei Massachusetts Institute of Technology Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) UK Atomic Energy Authority Department for Energy Security and Net Zero
About us
STEP is a programme to build a prototype fusion powerplant and create a UK-led fusion industry. We’ll demonstrate net energy, fuel self-sufficiency and a route to commercialisation. We’ll catalyse new ideas and technologies that will benefit multiple industries and help secure our future on this planet. STEP will be delivered by a public-private alliance led by UK Industrial Fusion Solutions Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the UK Atomic Energy Authority Group.

In this blog, Prof Ian Chapman outlines the progress made in fusion science so far, and the motivation for this recent theme issue about STEP: "Philosophical Transactions A is a compendium of the output of the first five years of design work, and whilst substantial challenges remain, just the act of executing a delivery programme brings us closer to fusion power." It is GCSE results day and here are some top tips from Jordan d’Arras - STEP Outreach Manager: - The fusion energy sector is so vast that it ranges across many engineering and science disciplines. Choose the GCSE, A-Level or degree that you're most interested in and there will be a connection to that topic in the fusion industry. - You don't have to be a scientist or engineer to work in Fusion! We cant create the path to limitless clean energy without people working in business, media, communication, procurement, administration, events, graphic design, marketing and many more! - Avoid thoughts like "I don't know enough about fusion energy to apply". Fusion is a new, emerging market, it's ok to not be an expert in fusion before applying! - Fusion energy is for everyone. The UK Atomic Energy Authority employ people from over 65 countries and have strong staff Networks for Disability, Women, Ethnicity & Nationality, and LGBTQI+ . Everyone is welcome in the fusion endeavour. - A job in fusion energy can be very fun! Spending your days aiming to create a miniature Sun on Earth and working on cutting edge, possibly world saving technology is really interesting! #GCSEs #GCSEResultsDay #STEM #fusionenergy
