About us

OpenStack is an open source software project Hosted by the OpenInfra Foundation for creating private and public clouds. Over 300 OpenStack-powered public cloud data centers and thousands of private clouds at a scale of more than 40 million physical cores span the world. Since launching in 2010, OpenStack has become one of the top four most active open source projects. What OpenStack software does: OpenStack is an open source cloud platform that provides APIs to orchestrate bare metal, virtual machine and container resources on a single network. The same OpenStack code powers a global network of public and private clouds, backed by the largest ecosystem of technology providers, to enable cost savings, control and portability. Learn more at http://www.openstack.org/software. Why open matters: All of the code for OpenStack is freely available under the Apache 2.0 license. Anyone can run it, build on it, or submit changes back to the project. We strongly believe that an open development model is the only way to foster badly-needed cloud standards, remove the fear of proprietary lock-in for cloud customers, and create a large ecosystem that spans cloud providers. OpenStack Users: OpenStack has thousands of users worldwide across industries including financial services, telecom, retail, manufacturing, internet and ecommerce companies. Find OpenStack user stories at http://www.openstack.org/users. For more information and to join the community, visit www.OpenStack.org/join and join the conversation in our OpenStack LinkedIn Group. Join us at events: Each year, the OpenInfra Foundation and community members around the world host global Summits and regional events to help support and grow the community.
