Exciting news for our users in the US! On August 1, 2024, our US business announced Mercari x Japan, a new product offering that will open up direct access to inventory from millions of sellers on its Japanese marketplace. Through Mercari x Japan, US shoppers can now browse an expansive selection of rare and hard-to-find items directly from Japan. “This launch is the first time we are connecting our US and Japanese marketplaces, enabling US shoppers to purchase items from millions of sellers in Japan,” said John Lagerling, Mercari US CEO. “When we thought about the future of resale, cross-border shopping was a natural next step in Mercari's evolution as a truly seamless global marketplace. This month, we celebrated the 11th anniversary of the launch of the Mercari marketplace app! Our Tokyo headquarters was filled with balloons, food, and festivities for an evening commemorating how far we’ve come and how much further we will go in our mission to circulate value and unleash the potential in all people. #mercari

View at a glance the category shares of transactions on Mercari, our top 5 item categories, why people use Mercari, and lots more! Our data shows that over 40% of transactions occur in the Entertainment & Hobbies category, which includes items such as character and celebrity merchandise, and that many use Mercari as a smarter way to enjoy the things they want to do.
