About us
Launched in 2013 and becoming the first Unicorn company in Japan, Mercari Group is a Japan-based corporate group operating in both Japan and the US. Our mission is to create value in a global marketplace where everyone can buy and sell. Mercari is the largest marketplace platform with over 20 million monthly users in Japan. Through the Mercari app, users can sell their used or unwanted items to those who need them just by taking a photo and entering in some basic information. We are constantly developing our app to provide an environment where anyone can conduct transactions easily, safely, and securely. As part of these efforts, we have invested in the latest technologies such as AI and machine learning, and have released various functions such as escrow payment, AI listing, and barcode listing. The app currently operates in Japan and the US, with 5.6 million monthly users in the US (as of 2022.3). We have also successfully launched new businesses such as our mobile payment service Merpay. Today, Mercari Group is made up of multiple subsidiary businesses, including those involved in logistics, B2C e-commerce, blockchain, and sports team management. Mercari India located in Bengaluru will harness the infinite power of technology to create high-quality service where our people come together to build products that will further strengthen our leadership position in a global product market.

At Mercari India, we believe that true innovation goes beyond just tech - it's about uplifting our communities and making a meaningful difference in people's lives. Last week, we had the privilege of visiting Saanthvana Old Age Home, a sanctuary of love and care run by the compassionate couple, Dr. Kumada and Sridhar. Through their tireless efforts, they have created a warm, nurturing environment for our elderly citizens who deserve our utmost respect and support. As we interacted with the residents, listened to their stories, and shared moments of laughter and connection, we were reminded of the profound impact that simple acts of kindness can have. These seniors have paved the way for us, and it's our responsibility to ensure their golden years are filled with dignity, companionship, and joy. This CSR initiative was not just about donating resources - it was about building bridges, fostering empathy, and reminding ourselves that true success lies in the positive change we can create in our society. We are grateful to Dr. Kumada and Sridhart for their incredible work, and to the residents of Saanthvana for welcoming us with open hearts. This experience has further reinforced our commitment to being a force for good, using our capabilities to uplift and empower those around us. #CommunityFirst #TechForGood #Mercari India

This month, we held our first Family Day event in five years, welcoming over 1,000 family members and friends of Mercari members to our Tokyo office! The entire floor transformed into an event venue, with crane games and capsule toy machines, an opportunity for kids to experience working at our office cafe, workshops and demonstrations held by our research and development organization Mercari R4D, and more. It was a day of appreciation for the family and friends who support our members, and a great chance for them to experience the atmosphere that makes Mercari. More from our #AndroidMeetup at Mercari India!
🌟 Thrilled to share insights from our recent Android Meet-up! 🚀 On 10th of August, Kiran Kumar and I had the privilege to host an engaging session at the Mercari India office, diving into a topic that is : "Breaking Down Bloated ViewModel: Guide to ViewModel Mediators." It was fantastic to see so many passionate Android developers in attendance! 🙌 We explored the challenges of managing complex ViewModels and introduced practical strategies for leveraging Mediators to create cleaner, more efficient code. The discussions that followed were incredibly insightful, showcasing the community's curiosity and commitment to continuous learning. A HUGE thank you to everyone who participated, asked questions, and shared their experiences. Your engagement made the session lively and productive! Looking forward to our next meet-up and continuing this journey of knowledge sharing and collaboration. Together, let’s elevate our Android development skills! 💡🤖 #AndroidMeetup #ViewModel #Mediators #AndroidDevelopment #BLRDROID #KnowledgeSharing

Ever heard of the CustomLogger? That’s my potion for logging magic! Transforming mundane messages into epic tales of .info, .debug, and .error. If your tests need a legendary sidekick, I'm your hero.
Every field has its challenges, and the QA universe is no exception! Big shoutout to Mesut Durukal, Chris Ding, and the Japan Test Community for handing me the mic to share my thoughts. A heartfelt thank you to Mercari, Inc. and Mercari India for crafting a workspace where I can voice my creative ideas without hesitation and tackle challenges head-on with the backing of some stellar mentors. Here's to embracing the hurdles rather than dodging them!

I had the honor of meeting with Prime Minister Modi. Ever since 2018, when Mercari expanded its hiring efforts overseas and welcomed around 30 new graduates from the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) to work at our Tokyo office, we have had many Indian members contributing actively within our company. Today, more than half of Mercari's engineers are global members and Japanese language ability is not among our requirements for hiring, and the foundation for our overseas recruitment all started with this initiative for hiring new graduates from India. Two years ago, we launched a Center of Excellence in Bangalore with the help of our Indian engineers who were working successfully in Japan and returned to India to help establish the team. This has enabled us to collaborate smoothly with our development team in India and maintain our company culture across countries. In recent years, due to a shortage of engineers in Japan, many startups are rushing to recruit engineers from overseas. The exceptional talent pool of Indian engineers is particularly attractive, and more startups are not only hiring within Japan but establishing their own development centers in India. We had a meeting with Prime Minister Modi, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar, Speaker of the House of Representatives Nukaga, members of the National Diet, and representatives from Japanese companies expanding in India, where I had the honor of speaking with the Prime Minister as the representative of a Japanese startup. I could feel the strong anticipation from both governments toward the role of startups in strengthening Japan-India relations, especially in the economic sector. Mercari is proud to be a part of this, and I am truly excited to see the startup ecosystem as a whole accelerate progress in these areas going forward!
