About us

Since establishing in 1995 in Poole, Dorset, Lush has been driven by innovation and its ethics. Creators of pioneering beauty products such as the fizzing bath bomb, shower jellies and solid shampoo bars, we place emphasis on fresh ingredients like organic fruits and vegetables, fight against animal testing and combat over-packaging by developing products that can be sold ‘naked’ to the customer without any packaging. We currently operate in 52 countries with 928 global shops. Through our separate business divisions we invent, manufacture and sell our handmade products direct to our customers through our own shops and online. The fact that we make all our products by hand is something we are really rather proud of! Lush is 10% Employee Owned since 2017 and our people are the heart and soul of our business. In the UK we currently have offices located in Poole, Dorset and Soho, London.

    Today was a very different kind of shop visit - a visit to our closed, vandalised, looted and boarded up shop in Hull. It’s easy to be angry and sad, and don’t get me wrong I am both. I’m angry with the small number of people senselessly attacking minority groups and I’m sad for the communities that are being targeted and the harm that’s being caused. This weekend was overtaken with this - watching what was happening up and down the country, but today I was reminded of the resilience and kindness of the wonderful people within the business and outside of it. Just yesterday our store team showed up to a store that was beyond recognition to the one they left on Saturday - and within the space of 8 hours they, and their partners and friends who volunteered their support, did an amazing job of coordinating contractors, assessing the damage, cleaning up the mess caused and getting a stock order ready for our warehouse in Poole to start picking first thing this morning so that we’re up and running again as soon as possible. Today was more of the same - assessing damage, counting and double counting the stock that was left, and endless cleaning. It could have been a frustrating and thankless task, but it wasn’t. Team members rearranged shifts to be available to help. Everyone brought the same positive energy, possibly even more, that they do to work every day and it was a pleasure to work alongside them. During the day customers have been in touch with the shop and our customer care team offering to come and help, nearby businesses have offered food, coffee and support, and my personal highlight was a local person who saw us working in the store popping by with chocolate. They weren’t a regular customer of ours, they’d never met the team before, they just saw what had happened and were saddened by it and wanted to do something to help. Across the rest of the business teams have continued to rally behind our statement that All Are Welcome, Always. Our stores, warehouses and offices will be a safe space for everyone. We’re proud to be a diverse company, united against hate. There is more that unites us than divides us. To all other retailers out there who have been impacted by the riots, let us know if there’s anything we can do to help. Thank you to the wonderful people who have supported us, all of team Lush Hull for the amazing work they’ve done, Sarah Scott and Rebecca Meara, our H&S and Maintenance managers who pulled out all the stops to do everything possible to support over the weekend and to be on site today and Kasey Swithenbank, Head of Retail who supported and coordinated the retail recovery over the weekend and from store today and Abi Herbert our Wellbeing PR specialist for being on site today with press and getting involved in the clean up. Our thanks also to Simply Solutions (Europe) and Nicole in particular. There are so many others who have done so much to support directly and to check in and offer kindness - thank you.

    And we’re open 🥳 On Saturday evening I watched, live on social media, our LUSH Hull shop get broken into and looted. The scenes were shocking and heartbreaking! Thankfully, the team had received advice earlier on the day to close the shop early and so thankfully all staff were safe at home. I’ve spent the last few days with the team in Hull supporting where I can with the clean up and I’m beyond proud to say that we opened at 9am this morning! I want to thank Ben the shop manager and the whole team in Hull as well as staff from other local shops who came together under difficult circumstances to get the shop re-opened as quickly as we could. To our manufacturing teams, who are made up of individuals from over 30 different countries, thank you for turning that stock replenishment order around in 24 hours! To Ellen Peters and Rebecca Meara our property and maintenance managers, thank you for reacting so quickly, ensuring the building was secured, safe for use and organising the repairs to which there are many! Bethan Watts from my team who also just so happens to be a visual merchandiser queen, thank you for jumping on a train to help us get the shop looking the best it can for our team in Hull and our community members! And to our Hull community, the biggest of thank yous to you all for your well wishes and gifts you have dropped in over the last 3 days. We promise to continue to lift your spirits in the days and weeks ahead! Today (7/8/24) we’re holding free product making sessions to anyone who pops in to say hello, we can’t wait to see you ❤️

    Lush Spring Prize, Lush Re:Fund, Re-Alliance, Regenerosity

    It's official! The LUSH Spring Prize 2025 is now accepting applications until 27th September 2024. Organisations, formal or informal groups, networks, or individuals can apply to the prize if they are working in ways that regenerate the ecological and social systems that they are part of. The Spring Prize welcomes applications from anywhere in the world. The prize was founded in 2017, and is run in collaboration between Lush and Ethical Consumer Magazine. We're excited to welcome other partners like Be the Earth Foundation, Permaculture Magazine, and The Savitri Waney Charitable Trust, supporting some special prize categories this year. As well as receiving prize money, the award recipients are welcomed into a space of peer learning, to share wisdom, techniques, and solidarity with a global movement of regenerators. The Spring Prize awards those that go beyond sustainability by taking holistic approaches to building the health of ecology, economy and social systems. After the success of our Bridgerton collaboration, we launched our new Magik CBD range, introduced our new mini bubble bars, hosted a community event showcasing 6 new limited edition shower gels, launched our summer freshness sale and installed our latest collaboration! LUSH X TMNT 😍 🐢 We have collaborated with Paramount once again to celebrate the iconic TV show Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, showcasing PLASTIC FREE products 🎉 Our space on our 1st floor has been transformed into the Turtle's lair, complete with a sewer tunnel into our party space for a unique and fun experience. 😍

Today, we are celebrating what employee ownership means at Lush - protecting the independent ownership of the business, now and in the future, enshrining our ethics, and of course celebrating our employees, the wonderful beneficiaries of the Lush Employee Benefit Trust. In 2017, Lush became partly employee owned when 10% of the company shares were put into an Employee Benefit Trust (affectionately known as the ‘EBT’) on behalf of the staff. These shares are held in trust on behalf of more than 12,000 staff in 27 countries, known as the ‘Lush Group’ (which now also includes North America), who are all beneficiaries of the EBT.
