    ✨💡 #FollowTheLeader: "Whether it’s the pool, the pitch, or the mat, leadership is way more about who you are, not the role you’re playing at any given time." Researcher, storyteller, author of multiple best-selling books, and podcast host Brené Brown is one of our favorite leaders to follow for a number of reasons. Her four pillars of courageous leadership offer deep insight into how we can tap into our core strengths to dare to lead with purpose, intention, and heart: 🙌 Embrace vulnerability: Leaders who have embraced their vulnerabilities can spark creativity and innovation in ways rigid strength never could. She suggests “courage over comfort," and that in order to truly be courageous, we must rumble with vulnerability.  ⚖️ Living into our values: Having values and preaching our beliefs is one thing. But actually participating in our principles and living our life according to them is another. With leadership, talking the talk is not enough. We have to be able to walk the talk. She says a leader’s job is to “operationalize and translate values from ideals to behaviors — teach people the skills they need to show up in a way that’s aligned with those values and then create a culture in which you hold one another accountable for staying aligned with the values.” 🤝 Trust: According to Brown, “Trust is earned not through heroic deeds, or even highly visible actions, but through paying attention, listening, and gestures of genuine care and connection.” 📚 Rising skills: Brown states, “The greatest barrier to courageous leadership is not fear — it’s how we respond to our fear. Our armor — the thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that we use to protect ourselves when we aren’t willing and able to rumble with vulnerability — move us out of alignment with our values, corrode trust with our colleagues and teams, and prevent us from being our most courageous selves.” Brené Brown says courageous leadership is not comfortable... You will fall and skin your knee. But courage is contagious. Abby Wambach’s book “Wolfpack” is leadership gold. Her story about finding herself on the bench during an important game and digging deep to reimagine what leading looks like when you’re not on the pitch is one of the all time great leadership lessons.
