That’s a wrap at Brooklyn Basin! Foon Lok East is our fourth project in partnership with MidPen Housing Corporation and the final affordable housing development within Oakland’s Brooklyn Basin community is officially complete! Inspired by the Cantonese phrase meaning “joyous community” and adjoining the first phase, Foon Lok West, Foon Lok East offers 124 affordable housing units with a range of shared amenities, including a spacious community room with spectacular views of Oakland’s historic waterfront, a computer lab, a learning/childcare center, and secured bicycle parking. The central courtyard features an active and passive space with landscaped mounds, generous seating areas, a playground, and a BBQ area for residents to enjoy. Foon Lok East features an array of original artwork, including pieces by Civic Design Studio students, local art from SLATE Art Consulting, and a custom mural by Cece Carpio. The artwork and murals depict the beautiful flora, fauna, and the cultural history of the region. The project is a bittersweet conclusion to such an amazing journey with an incredible team and partners who made affordable housing at Brooklyn Basin a reality! Blue Oak Landing is a PCBC 2024 Gold Nugget Award Winner as the Best Supportive/Transitional Housing project. This project is dedicated to housing individuals who have previously experienced homelessness, offering them a safe place to call home. The thoughtfully designed units and communal spaces are intended to foster a sense of community and support, aiding residents in their journey toward stability and independence. By providing high-quality, supportive housing for the formerly unhoused, Blue Oak Landing addresses a critical social issue and contributes to the well-being of the broader Vallejo community.
