    Stop judging candidates for being in the same role or not being promoted for the last 5 years. Here is why. 2019 something pretty major happened in the world. A pandemic. It screwed everything. Things changed. For pretty much 2 years jack shit happened. Then after that people viewed the world differently. They questioned what was important to them when it came to their career. It wasn’t necessarily moving up the ladder every 2 years. It was keeping a job. Also there wasn’t much recruitment going on. Trust me. I was there. Then came the cost of living crisis, things got turned upside down for many households. For many the number one priority again was keeping a job rather than making a move. Remember the expression ‘last in first out’ ? Security was the top of the agenda. Then over the last 12-18 months there has been mass redundancies, restructures and recruitment freezes. Again. Difficult to progress easily. Some serious and rubbish stuff has happened over the last 5 years which has meant priorities have changed. Ambition for many has been a luxury. Ambition can come in many ways and at different times. Now is the time for many who have been through the above. There are some incredible candidates in this situation who should not be judged.     Last week, I had to take some emergency time off to be with my family as my little one was in the hospital. For my family, this was an incredibly hard time, and for me personally, it was quite challenging. Taking unplanned time off from work is never easy, and for someone like me, who constantly worries about letting people down, it can feel overwhelming. However, my experience with Marvel FMCG - Certified B Corporation® has once again proven to me that we truly put "People before profit." Not only did my team fully support me to take the time I needed to be with my family, but they also went above and beyond by sending us a gift to order COOK Trading Ltd products. This thoughtful gesture meant that when we got back from the hospital, we didn't have to worry about cooking.     Trust your employees…. Please. When I started Marvel there were a few things I was adamant about doing, one of them was trusting everyone who works for me. It was based on listening to candidates and clients feedback over the years but also based on my own principles. I have never understood why you would put the ultimate faith in someone and give them a job and then immediately not trust them. If you need more time from home because its the school holidays go for it.. If you need to go to an appointment during work thats cool, just get the job done If you want to work for me and you think you can do it on a part time basis lets look at this.. If you want to book time off, make sure all is covered and then just put it in my diary. If you want to hit the gym after the school run, go for it. Start the day feeling good. Recently I put the ultimate trust in our employees and started a 4 day week on 100% pay. I trust them to get the job done. So far its paying dividends. I am no business guru but I am confident if the trust is there you will see an increase in performance. The world of work is changing. Put your faith in your employees and they will repay you.     Here are 8 green flags to tell you are in a good recruitment process with a good company. 👉🏻 Transparent Job advert - there are no cringey statements like we are a family etc, it’s an honest ad which tells you why it might be a great place to work. Salary is advertised and ways of working/flexibility is covered off. 👉🏻You are not interviewed by the grim reaper - the interviewer is an ambassador for the business, they smile and look like they enjoy working for the company. If you come out of the interview feeling good thats a great sign. 👉🏻The process has momentum - it’s not like turning the QE2. A process should take 2-3 weeks and if the company works works at pace in their interview process then this is a positive sign. 👉🏻They are paying the right salary for the right role - There is no ‘competitive salary’ which turns out to be something you would not even get out of bed for. 👉🏻Their recruiter is just as passionate about them as they are - if they are using a recruiter that is a great ambassador and they sound excited, passionate and transparent it shows not only do they put thought into their suppliers but its collective opinion. 👉🏻Feedback is on point - it’s detailed, constructive, prompt and helps you get better through the process. Its shows they give a shit about people. 👉🏻 There is no mention of ‘FIT’ - diversity of the workforce is encouraged and they hire based on values, behaviours and strengths 👉🏻 They encourage flexibility, it could be part time, hybrid working, condensed hours. They care about their people and shout it from thr rooftops. If you are in a recruitment process and you have most of these, stick with it. You are with a good place with them.     Back to it. Over the last 3 weeks I have been out of the business having moved house and then gone on a lovely break with my family to Kos. I am not going to write the usual cliché post of ‘I am back and raring to go’ but I wanted to talk about what I learnt on holiday.. it was simple. What amazing service looks like. I have never experienced service like it at our resort and it really got me thinking about what more can we do at Marvel, I am a big believer even if you are thinking something is good it can still get better. We take massive pride in our service, I believe in the long game and I think if you give people an amazing experience they will return and also recommend you. We have invested in our customer and community team and will continue to do so, we dont just believe our recruiters generate the revenue for our business, its a team effort and giving an incredible recruitment journey is just as important. We dont always get it right, me included but if we keep striving then I am confident we can keep growing with our mindset. Have a great week everyone Cheers 🫡
