CNN International Commercial (CNNIC) is responsible for the business operations of CNN’s properties outside of the United States. All commercial activities for brands such as CNN International, CNN en Español, CNN Arabic, CNN Style, CNN Business and Great Big Story are aligned within the division. This encompasses the advertising sales, sponsorship partnerships, commercial content development, content sales, brand licensing, distribution and out-of-home operations, business development and marketing for the world’s leading international news provider. CNNIC is a recognised industry leader in international advertising sales and its use of award-winning commercial content, produced through its Create unit and driven by its advanced data usage and digital capabilities, has resulted in strong and enduring partnerships with many of the world’s most recognised brands. Its Content Sales and Licensing unit has relationships with more than 1,000 affiliates ranging from licensing the CNN brand through to content supply contracts as well as offering consultancy services.     📢 Join the Create Team as a Content Strategist   The Create team is on the lookout for a talented Content Strategist to support our APAC and EMEA studio.   In this role, you’ll be developing multi-platform branded content concepts and creative approaches for CNN’s advertising partners across the region. You’ll be generating proposals at a high creative standard, in alignment with client KPIs and CNN’s tone of voice and build on audience insights to enhance user engagement.    This role would suit an experienced Creative Strategist with robust research and writing skills as well as experience in conceptualising film, digital and social global campaigns.   • We're proud to have sponsored last week's IAA UK's Brand Academy in London. The intensive one-day workshop gave junior brand marketers the awareness and tools they need to understand the ever-changing international media landscape.   • Congratulations to Caroline Faraj and our colleagues at CNN Arabic who have just completed media training with Sharjah Press Club’s “Ithmar” programme. Last week, the CNN Arabic team trained students aged 8-17 on topics such as video production, social media and AI in journalism in collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery’s Cartoon Network. This was the fourth time we partnered with Sharjah Press Club, and have now trained almost 100 students since 2019. See some highlights from the training below 👇

  • CNN International joined the Mongolian Economic Forum 2024, Mongolia’s leading national conference dedicated to addressing economic development, critical geo-political topics, and solutions to help accelerate the nation’s development.    CNN Anchor, Correspondent, and Business Editor-at-large, Richard Quest, moderated two of the forums’ most significant panels which set the agenda for the day’s discussions. The first plenary session, which focused on regional development, featured high-profile leaders including the Prime Minister of Mongolia, opposition leaders such as Luvsannyam Gantumur and Dorjhand Togmid, Albert Park, the Chief Economist at the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and Professor Euvin Naidoo from the Thunderbird School of Global Management. Quest's second plenary session, “Green Energy & Financing, Energy Transition” featured Bolormaa Enkhbat, Member of Parliament, Randeep Singh Grewal, Chairman of Greka Green Group, Dr. Lili LU, Senior Business Development Director of Green Hydrogen at Envision Energy, Marc Meleard, Executive Director at Badrakh Energy, and Rufat Alimardanov, Mongolia’s Resident Representative at IFC - International Finance Corporation.   James Hunt, CNNIC Senior Vice President of Global Client Solutions, also joined the #MEForum on a panel discussing Mongolia’s tourism. In addition, Erin Williams, Sales Director at CNNIC, had a fireside chat at the MEF Youth session where she discussed the role of traditional news brands in the age of social media and disinformation.  

  • The topic of why advertisers should support quality journalism was prevalent at Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. In a piece for The Media Leader, Cathy Ibal, SVP of Global Advertising Sales at CNNIC, looks at why it’s incumbent on the whole industry to tackle news avoidance and highlights the important work done by the World Media Group and others to help show the value of news to brands and society at large. Create produced a film focusing on Angola’s unique biodiversity and inherent beauty.   • CNN Arabic and UN Women in the Arab States have renewed their impactful partnership last week, which began in 2022, with a Memorandum of Understanding. This collaboration aims to accelerate gender balance, financial inclusion, and female employment across the Arab States. Susanne Mikhail Eldhagen, Regional Director of UN Women in the Arab States, emphasized, "Together, we commit to supporting a media landscape promoting women’s rights, with a focus on women’s employment." Over the past two years, the partnership has made significant strides, notably through the '16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence' campaign. Caroline Faraj, VP of Arabic Services at CNN remarked, “The initial two years of this partnership have seen consistently high levels of engagement in the stories and projects we have undertaken together, which underlines the power, relevance and importance of our collaborative efforts.” Looking ahead, CNN Arabic and UN Women will continue to focus on high-quality, data-driven content and strategic events that highlight women's economic empowerment and their integral involvement in peace and security.
