Our parent company, OneFamily Group, is celebrating the biggest UK Pride festival this weekend. Read what our CEO, Jim Islam, has to say about this year's campaign theme: “We love because they can’t”, which highlights how members of the LGBTQ+ community all over the world are still fighting for basic human rights.
This weekend is Brighton & Hove's Pride festival - a glorious and joyful celebration of diversity in the city. It's a wonderful expression of the freedoms that we are lucky enough to enjoy in this country. It has a proud history of campaigning and this year is shedding light on the progress that's to be made globally. It’s a horrifying reminder that members of the LGBTQ+ community are still suffering human rights abuses and face being criminalised, tortured or sentenced to death in many parts of the world. Nearer to home we need to protect and nurture the freedom that we have; freedom that has taken activists over 50 years to achieve. But, it's fragile and we need to hold it gently in our hands...... We are pleased to announce that Feryal Nadeem will be joining the OneFamily Group as our new Chief Risk Officer in August, subject to regulatory approval. As an Actuary, Feryal worked with Equitable Life, Swiss Life and the Just Group. Her most recent role was as Chief Risk Officer at Utmost Life and Pensions. Feryal says that she was drawn to OneFamily Group’s ethos and beliefs and likes our mutual culture and strong value system, which she sees as a real strength. She says that it’s clear to her, from her conversations with colleagues, that there’s a real sense of ‘doing the right thing’ at Beagle Street and OneFamily, which she says is important. She’s excited to be joining a dynamic organisation that is firmly focused on growth and is looking forward to being part of our future. Welcome to the team Feryal!

Our Director of Protection, Ryan Griffin, has written in FT Adviser discussing how millions of people are at risk of being without the financial support they’d need if a loved one were to pass away. Our recent report estimated the average baseline financial impact of the death of a family breadwinner across England, Scotland and Wales would be £195,000 over the course of ten years. #LifeInsurance

It's great to hear the conversations around our recent research which found that 28% of young adults with a mortgage don’t have life insurance. That's 1.7 million homeowners. Thank you Protection Reporter for sharing. #LifeInsurance
According to the latest research commissioned by Beagle Street (part of the OneFamily Group), 28% of young adults with a mortgage don’t have Life Insurance to protect themselves and their loved ones. Additional research commissioned by the insurer suggests that there was at least £433bn in unprotected mortgage debt in 2023. This represents the combined value of home loan debt that would be owed if an expected death were to occur. Ryan Griffin https://lnkd.in/ew4adXNR

In her new blog, Jackie Davies, Customer Operations Director, has delved into our recent research into the impact the cost-of-living crisis has had on young adults. Our research found the average cost of getting married, buying a house and having children in the UK has soared to almost £395,000. As Jackie points out, more than half of the 18-40 year olds we surveyed said their top priority is simply to live comfortably. This aspiration comes off the back of high rents and growing bills which continue to make life difficult for this age group. #CostOfLiving #LifeGoals
Customer Operations Director at OneFamily - passionate about delivering positive outcomes for customers and building high performing teams
The cost of living crisis continues to affect every day lives, particularly those of young adults. Many are being forced to make some pretty tough decisions about their life choices in order to make ends meet. Those of us in the financial services industry have a big part to play in easing those challenges, by listening, understanding and developing products and services that better support their needs.
