Fleet Care and our Quality Catering Division (QCD) jointly hosted seafarers and their family members at the latter’s operation centre in Mumbai, for a special event titled ‘Brewing Connections’. The initiative showcased our commitment to nutrition and well-being onboard our ships, including best galley practices and recipe development. Our QCD General Manager Ashwin Joshi guided the families through a special presentation and tasting session. Our guests enjoyed a platter of a traditional monsoon specialty snacks, accompanied by European delights. The event was attended by ship owners, ship managers and industry leaders. Mr Bradshaw highlighted four key learnings and examples from FLEET’s approach to seafarer welfare: 1. 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴: FLEET Care, our seafarer well-being team, includes dedicated psychologists and delivers initiatives to support social and mental well-being. 2. 𝗔𝗱𝗼𝗽𝘁 𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘀: Our Virtual Reality (VR) lab at the FLEET Management Training Institute (FMTI), Mumbai, offers training tools and skill assessments in tasks such as welding. 3. 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲: Seafarer future-readiness training spans technical developments (e.g., AI/ML, robotics, automation), soft-skills training, and an evolution of the traditional maritime training formats to meet newer industry demands. 4. 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆: FLEET’s leadership in gender diversity and women seafarer support includes shore support, mentorships, specially designed PPE kits, gender sensitisation training. To address the International Maritime Organization's theme of ‘Safe Horizons: Women Shaping the Future of Maritime Safety,’ the Maritime Union of India (MUI) hosted a seminar in Mumbai which was attended by representatives from the Directorate General of Shipping in India, seafarers, ship managers and industry shapers. A series of four panel discussions delved into critical aspects of women’s safety. Colleagues Lea Fernandes, Captain Mini Verma, and Tejashri Kishore participated in the discussions. Each speaker represented a different FLEET division – Crewing, Safety Training and Welfare – to provide a holistic perspective on promoting the safety of all seafarers. FLEET’s commitment to ensuring a safe environment for women seafarers was commended by our seafarers, Third Officer Priyanka Tiwari and Chief Officer Deepti Singh, on stage. The sessions covered case studies, live drills, and presentations on topics including loss prevention, Philippines port state control inspections, and reinforced FLEET’s commitment to the welfare of Filipino seafarers. FLEET Executive Director Mr Kannan Soundararajan, along with Captain Abhishek Sinha, Training Director at FLEET Philippines, Mr Jatin Arora, Assistant General Manager at Fleet Ship Management PTE, and Captain Vikash Kumar Thakur@, Manager at Fleet Ship Management PTE, participated in the workshop. Mr Soundara Rajan emphasised the importance of proactive measures: "We maintain clear reporting lines to ensure that the safety of crew and equipment are prioritised." Congratulations to Mr Angad Banga, Chief Operating Officer for The Caravel Group , who has been appointed a Justice of the Peace (JP) by Hong Kong’s Chief Executive! #HongKong
Mr. Angad Banga, Chief Operating Officer for The Caravel Group, has been appointed a Justice of the Peace (JP) by Hong Kong’s Chief Executive. The occasion was marked with an oath taking ceremony (pictured). “I am truly grateful for this honour,” said Mr. Banga. “It is a privilege to serve the community of Hong Kong. The city has given us so much, and my family and I are proud to call it home.” The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region published the 2024 Honours List and Justices of the Peace appointments on July 1, in which a total of 502 people were recognised this year. Individuals are recognised for their contribution to Hong Kong or dedicated public and community service. JPs are required to perform certain functions, including visiting custodial institutions or detention centres to ensure that such facilities are effectively managed and that no inmate is unfairly treated or deprived of his or her rights.
